This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make stylized work in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Submit your drawings, receive feedback or critique others! Share your knowledge and remember to thank those who've critiqued or red-lined your drawings. Most importantly, have fun.

im trying a new style and am currently struggling for the first time in months to find a style for the eye. I have done roughly 30 attempts and have yet to be satisfied. I have tried to draw over the previous eye and getting a better and better eye but it isnt working either. Will not let go until that eye is drawn within the new style and at a decent level.
At this point, im willing to take suggestions to be honest.

It may be that ive created an eye with no good looking coherent representation at the angle that i want. which i know shouldnt exist. God Im gonna go back to it now...

>>2351666
i think you are worrying too much about an eye and about a style, to be honest!! i think you should just drop it and move on, draw a different face and a different eye. don't try to force a style, just draw what feels natural. it might not be what you want at first, but it's OK to have drawings that you're not satisfied with. just keep making /new/ things instead of fretting over one thing for a long while-- you'll learn more that way.
>>
>>2351671
Its a special occasion when i struggle on something simple. This may be the key to a breakthrough.

Hi, moar idiot sketches.
>>
>>2351796
>lines
These are pretty bad. I am still learning how to do digi lines, and I'm trying a bunch of new stuff. My traditional inking is noticeably better, but still pretty amateur.

Anyways here are some things that work for me (they might seem a bit obvious)
1) Do your initial sketch on a different layer, then reduce the sketch opacity, make a new layer and ink on top.
2) hard round still ends in hard round, so I use a hard round eraser to make the ends more acute (pointy) if the line doesn't terminate into another line.
3) I try to do similar traditional inking tricks like "webbing" intersections. Basically anywhere that 2 lines meet at an acute angle, I fill in a bit more
4) Other traditional tricks I picked up - I add small scratches and panel lines to imply form

How to not make a generic pose for the feeet when the character is standing ;-;
>>
>>2352106
you're actually right, i'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place because the way i like to draw heads is leaving me with ???'s as to how to represent it properly from the angle i want to. maybe i'll just go full side view, it'll be simpler, but the character has a big pony tail that would get in the way of the composition i'm going for, haha

or i could just leave it as is and keep going cause nobody would care really, but then it'd be wrong and it'd have a really bad tangent between the chin and the shoulder and it would drive me crazy every time i looked at it ;-;

You really need to fix the anatomy. Even stylized you wouldn't be able to bend like that. It took me a second to realize it wasn't strange mermaid/merman with a huge tumor on it's back. (Because the back looked more like the front anatomy wise.)
>>
>>2352459
> Even stylized you wouldn't be able to bend like that.

That's not how it works retard.
>>
>>2352462
Lmao really? Stylization still has grounds in reality bruh. Your spine would have to be snapped to bend like that, and extending your arm in that direction. You can exaggerate things without looking broken as fuck.

>>

Look really shit redline(not claiming to be a master ) but if you just move the neck you can still have exaggeration and the face. Also you can totally ignore this but unless her tits are really saggy, her boobs would bunch a little more at the bottom and top. Mine's a bit off but maybe you get the idea. The other problem is the chest would probably be more curved the other direction than straight up in that position.

And there are copious amounts of blogs dedicated to making fun of them. What's your point? This is a critique board. It's for improving your art, just because some "pros" do it doesn't mean it's an automatic pass that makes it not look like shit. The person who posted the image is talking about pushing perspective and using a fisheye but if you don't understand the basics of not having your characters spine broken they'll never understand how to push their style well. If it's just for hobby, grand! My input should just be tossed out the window, but if they want to improve, you want to be able to break things "aesthetically" that way it doesn't take away from the picture.

Yes you can push stylization.
>Pic related

But if you do, whatever you broke needs to have some balance.

I'm not sure if you're the original artist or just a rabid fan with a boob inflation fetish, but between the two of us either way you haven't got any idea what you're talking about.

well done.
The amount of negative space is unchanged, whats being done with it has, but that's not an issue of negative space, that's an issue of having a bad background.
The amount of negative space as well of the way it goes into the composition is correctly done.

Who are you helping with your horrible critiques? nobody, in fact you're confusing them. The fact he was able to fix it is irrelevant to the fact your critique was absolutely horrible and misleading.

its a critique board, giving horrible advice and telling people to fix what isn't wrong is detrimental. just post your art in the beginner thread while not replying to anyone.
>>
>>2352882
>The amount of negative space as well of the way it goes into the composition is correctly done.
Dude, you're so angry you're not making sense.
The negative space referrers to anything that's not the subject which in this case was used to set the mood, the drawing had no "background" as in any solid object or wall and was just light, the streak of light was awkwardly placed and what I wanted them to do was to re-position the streak and crop the image.
You're just spewing random buzzwords to sound smart when you're barely making sense, your replies boil down to
>you're stupid!
>you're a retard!
>bad background!
>horrible critique!
but when it comes to /you/ actually criticizing their artwork it's just a jumbled mess of comas and buzzwords, take a breather and stop being so angry, you think you know better than everyone but you don't.

>Negative space refers to anything not the subject
okay? the amount "lots of negative space" was not incorrect, what was inside the negative space was bad, but that's not "negative space"
>background is a solid object
background is anything that exists in the back, ie the light stream. it was bad, but not negative space.

>you're posts are just insults
maybe because you're incapable of understanding that you don't know what negative space in despite telling people to correct it.

fuck off kid, you're helping no one and your over defensiveness of something you got completely wrong isn't helping your case.
>>
>>2352900
So you want me to spoonfeed people?
You think good critiques come down to redlines and paintovers?
I thought there was too much negative space (referring to anything that's not the subject) and wanted them to crop it, yeah, the fact that they found a better use for it doesn't mean what I said couldn't have worked.
>maybe because you're incapable of understanding that you don't know what negative space in despite telling people to correct it.
You tried explaining why I was wrong (emphasis on "tried") but it just came up as a nonsensical burst of anger and buzzwords.

>Negative space refers to anything not the subject

No, what you need to do is stop giving people bad advice on topics you don't understand. And now you're resulting to pretending anyone who disagrees with you is just spouting buzzwords despite telling you precisely how you're an idiot.

Not sure how to approach cute. Creating faces viao Head to Hands and learning from Hampton on the construction of the face as well as Proko for portrait drawing. As to how to make a "cute" and simplistic face, I'm not sure.

I actually would, but currently at work. May later tonight if possible. But as to how to approach cute and simple, I'm not sure. Only used to drawing realistic faces.
