nice attempt, you're trying to think form, which is good, but you're doing things so wrong from the beginning, take note:

1) don't put pressure on your pen
2) start drawing gesture, imagine lines that just follow the flow of the figure, that's a few big strokes
3) build on it the silouette, measure
4) compare horizontal and verticals
5) compare interior shapes and exterior shapes
6) and then focus on forms, use your pen to follow the skin and volumes, don't use straight lines for this nor perpendiculars to the figure outlines, it should contact as tangents at the end
7) focus on values

Quick sketch to demo what I mean, no ref, so sorry if I mangled the character. I made Yusuke the obvious center while using his forearm to connect him to the gestures of the others, creating a nice flow. Obviously there's more than one way to do this, you might have to go back to thumbnails, but that's a good thing!

Check out movie posters as well, the old painted ones. They do cool things with hierarchy as well. Good luck. Also what con are you attending, if you don't mind?

You need a better understanding of anatomy.
Look into the Vitruvian Man to get a rough idea of how to draw a proportional body but first and foremost use reference.

but for real tho, i think most people do that cause it's a way of showing the body type more clearly without them being naked/wearing sexually codified clothing like a bikini/just a bra and some panties (since obviously a lot of people's OC's are straight up just a representation of themselves, and while there's still obviously some idealization going on there not everybody wants to present themselves in a sexualized manner)

this is only in references to refs only tho, if all they ever draw them in is that then yeah, they're bein kinda lazy (i myself am constantly guilty of just slappin some quick short shorts and a crop top of figures cause fuck it, don't want em to be nakey)

In the realm of digital art a little negative space of the outside is an after thought because it can be easily fixed. Now if the figures composition wise were off you'd have an argument for composition there but they're in a good place. Personally I don't see what the big deal is about that extra space. The two characters are still the focus and my take is their looking away from each other has more feeling because it looks like their reluctant to hold hands to show affection for one another that extra space representing that being close but distance.
like one anon said negative space can be important. It's up to the artist to decide if they want it or not and up to the viewer to decipher it.

Same here. I can ink traditionally though, I'm pretty good at getting lines down with fine liner pens and proper ink brushes. But digitally, all my lines are absolute shit. I don't know if it's my tablet settings or just me not doing things correctly, but I feel like I have no control over my digital lines.

Anyone know some tips?

I hate digital inking, but some anon suggested using a scanner. It helps you at least get your content onto the computer for coloring, and you can clean up in PS.

Otherwise for digital inking, I am still learning, but I spam the eraser. Here are some things I tried that didn't work

It is better to just push the sketch onto a lower layer, then draw over it

I used to ink with the intuous but my pen control sucks so I can only comfortably draw lines at certain angles. Rotating the canvas quickly sucks in PS compared to traditional. I'm going to sound like a dick right now, but I have been using the iPad and canvas rotation is significantly easier. Maybe some anon as a tip for fast canvas rotation??

Saying "unconventional" art isn't saying much of anything. At most it's implying "lazy" or "untrained" art. Like "outsider" art.

But that's meaningless too since the "traditional" "art community" hasn't held any sway for decades and has no influence over art audiences here or throughout the rest of the internet.

And all of these images are created using mainstream tools and techniques. Nothing in any of these threads is "alternative" or "unconventional" in any way.

Naming these threads or images "Alternative Art" is stupid as fuck.

I'm not at your level, but even I can see that her arms are too short and her head seems too big.

on top of what anon above mentioned the arms come out too far away from the body even considering that the skin and muscle has degraded, but body is misaligned with the face. Her breasts are misaligned with her shoulders, and clothes don't hug the form like drawn from shoulders to breasts.

I'd suggest just finish that one up and work on construction. Many of the problems I mentioned (minus the clothes) would take pretty big reconstruction and has its roots in your initial sketch probably.

Oh, well, I rather meant to say direction, but composition means to where the attention of the viewer is drawn. In this case, to the head of the snake. There's a clear direction and flow in this drawing unlike your other ones where everything is mashed on top of other.

Not the same anon but the lighting on the character comes from her side when it should be coming from her front, the shadows on the bed don't look right and it kinda looks like she's floating.
Her lower body looks like its facing a little more towards the left than her upper body, and the shading isn't the same as the background and that looks a little off too.

You don't have to do that. Your colors have just enough shading, light, and value to compliment the drawing.
Some of /ic/ think you have to apply every single thing they've read in some art book to every piece or every style. You don't. Sometimes you can keep it simple and still produce something good.

Drawings good, I can't be sure but I don't think Robin's torso in foreshortening correctly. Not sure if she's reclining or about to sit up, unlike nami.

This is a personal thing, feel free to ignore, but you lost the design when you caricatured Robin and Nami. They just look like animu girls in a specific wig than the characters themselves.
