i'm inclined to think that we'd get a lot of threads that are relevant to 2 or 3 people and die quickly, and the noise would make this board a lot worse. consolidating a lot of small programming discussions into one thread avoids that. it makes this place a little shittier, but not doing it makes this place a lot shittier.
the only way up is to more aggressively moderate the board, specifically by banning shitposters really aggressively. i don't see that happening, so a programming general is a good way to deal with the problem ourselves (to the extent that we can)

I think what I was trying to get across was that there's a lot of interest in programming now as some sort of get-rich-quick scheme, where the love of the code, programming being it's own reward has been lost or at least displaced.
