IPT is not a bad place, it's just monetized.
You can pay them for example the right to freeleech (download torrents without uploading) or to have a colored user title. There are also lottery which work on a similar system rewarding upload credit and points.

Yes, if you can, try to get in WCD through the IRC interview. You need 5 uploads to become Power User and access the invite forum (that can take you to many other great trackers without effort). WCD is the absolute best site for music, if you're really not interested tho... then the subreddits I mentioned earlier are pretty good places to start from. Whatever you do, don't pay anyone for any invite, it's not worth it.

Steam killed game piracy. Mostly being pirating games is PITA compared to buying them. Some require some weird work arounds like manually blocking in your firewall and the like.
furthermore games/warez are more likely to have malware in them so people usually hesitate to download something unless it has been confirmed before.
