Yeah, the "zooming" function is really hokey. I own 6 Ultrafires that all do exactly that, although the light is pretty neutral white.
It's a gimmick they do to give the light flood and throw capabilities without having to manufacture a proper reflector for them (the reflector is the thing that costs the most money out of any single part on the flashlight). It does flood really well and it kind of sort of does throw by forcing the light down to a very narrow cone so you can see the LED itself.
The Creelight that fucked itself after like 5 minutes of use that I had was a VERY cold light, with a blue tint. All of my other Creelights are only very lightly cool white or even neutral white.

14500s won't take it to its advertised brightness (because it's a lie) but they'll crank it up pretty bright. I wouldn't use 14500s for very long though, same with 10440s in AAA-cell lights. For anyone whose also on MetroPCS, 4g LTE works fine on it (which also mean it works fine on T-mobile/At&t/their MVNOs)! Just make sure to call first so MetroPCS can register your new phone's IMEI to your sim, toggle prefer 3g and then prefer LTE in network settings, and put in the APN for metro PCS.
My network kept disconnecting and reconnecting for some reason before I toggled between 3g and lte.
