Academia versus Industry. Don't get into theoretical stuff if you don't wish to work in an academical field.
Also most theoretical comsci degrees are math-oriented or at least have a large amount of math classes; that's how it usually goes in my county.

Also, math is way different than what you've learned until now (I take it you just gratuated high school) and might get old very, very quickly if you aren't really into it, just because you had passable/good grades in hs doesn't mean you'll have an easy time at uni

ExecUpPost='/usr/bin/ip link set eth0 mtu 9000'

I have made a "profile" that has the connection data, that works, but when ever i add the above line,it just errors/ignores it and starts the profile for the connection
Is there a "profile" beyond the one with the connection data i am missing?

So say I wanted to go full autist and capture every moment X happens across every episode in my favourite anime, and then compile it into one video, what tools would I need?

I don't come here often but I just need to ask for someones input on this.

My computer keeps loosing it's connection to the graphics card at random times. Sometimes when I try to boot it just says "Please power down and connect the PCI-e cables" and sometimes it happens when I'm already using the computer. And whenever I touch the cables with the softest of touches, it loses connection instantly. To solve this all of this, I have ripped of the side of my case to allow the cables to hang out freely. This appears to be the only position in which they can maintain a stable connection.

Now, I have made sure that both the 6 and 8 pin PCI-cables actually are connected to the card. I have an EVGA GeForce GTX 770.

Does anyone know what is causing this?

If it's a fresh install, you have nothing to lose but another 5 minutes of starting the install + maybe waiting some time if you don't have stuff to do, so there's that.

If you want to search for the problem:

The temps NEVER leave 93C?

The next time your PC has been off for a while (so you are 100% sure it's room temperature), then boot your computer and ASAP check the readings. If it says 93C, it's a reading problem and not a problem with your GPU at all. Your GPU should not reach more than maybe 40-50 degrees by the time you enter windows and start working on stuff. You will know when it's overheating for real (screen artifacts, random blackouts, smoke and fires if you're on nVidia, etc). Good luck!

Download TCPview and see what's using the internet. Just sort it by "Bytes sent" or "Bytes recieved" and you'll see who rises the ranks. Find the annoying program and tell it to behave or get rid of it.

I'm planning on putting together a new computer for myself, since my current one is ancient.
I have a GTX 980Ti, as well as some WD Blacks already.

However, it was a while ago I tried putting something together, so I wonder if this would work?
Would that PSU be able to power all of this?

Number of ways you could trim the cost down, just depends on what you don't want cut back on. You probably don't need an i7 for gaming and drawing, could go to a 6600k. Cooler is pretty excessive, a regular air cooler would be fine.

Drives will be assigned a device id in the root directory, like /dev/sdx

Partitions will look like /dev/sda1, /dev/sda2 for instance.

You then have the option of mounting them to another location, like "/mnt/flashdrive"

A lot of disros handle this shit automatically but if you are using something like arch, you'll have to configure fstab and other fuckery to get your drives to be accessible.

Typically when there is a drive, it will be assigned a name in the root directory in /dev. The drive may look like /dev/sdx# with x assigning the drive and # assigning the partition. Drives are also identified by their UUID which is a long string of shit.

Most distros will assign a mount point directly but if you're an arch fuckhead like me, you'll have to configure fstab and other fuckery to assign mountpoints, but you can mount a drive basically anywhere you want in the filesystem, like /mnt/flashdrive for instance.

dont see any reason why not, linux isnt really that picky on what you install it on honestly, a good flash drive on a usb 3.0 port beats a shitty WD green any day.
I'd say give it a go if you have a free day and a spare machine to try and install it on the USB stick, might be a fun project to keep your mind busy and if you get it working make a guide for the /g/ wiki so others can do it as well.

>>
>>54721542
pretty sure there's an /etc/ folder for hba configs too. Careful with jumbo's on exactly 9000 btw... if your sender is talking at 9216, it's going to re-segment another packet and you'll get a lot of unnecessary overhead vs. if they both agree to talk exactly 9000. not sure if linux accounts for the header/trailer/crc bits in the 9000 mtu or not...

the 980Ti pulls 250w. A 600w PSU is the recommended minimum for that card, totally fine for this build.

Is two ram sticks failing at the same time possible? After a long session of gaming my computer crashed (frozen screen loud screeching sounds ) so I forced shut down.

Computer then doesn't boot, it keeps shutting off and on. After some googling, I removed every component besides cpu, and it remains on. After adding ram it does the same thing. Has /g/ used any partition recovery software, and can you tell me how it went?

I did some cursory googling, and found this list:
http://forensicswiki.org/wiki/Tools:Data_Recovery#Partition_Recovery

Which includes: RecoverBits, MiniTool, Stellar Phoenix, Kernel For Windows Data Recovery, EaseUS Partition Table Doctor, DiskInternals NTFS recovery, gpart, TestDisk, Systools partition data recovery, M3 RAW drive recovery.

I am partial to testdisk because GPL, but what really matters is how well it works at partition recovery, and I want to hear about your experiences. I have to recover a NTFS partition from a disk where the main and backup partition tables got rewritten.
