OpenSUSE

>Usable on desktop
>Usable on mobile
>Usable for servers
>Based on Suse Linux Enterprise source code, meaning production server level stability and long release cycles

The one downside is all that awesomeness makes it a bit bloated (~3GB base install)

Gentoo.
Most stable while also completely allowing no-fuss up-to-date packages, second best package repos (only arch beats it), and full and easy customization of any part of the system.

not completely true. eg. cinnamon is still 2.8.6 and many other packages are old too. But sure, many ebuilds have the newest in ~testing.

Ubuntu, because it just works and apt is my favorite package manager.

I've tried Arch and while kinda fun it is basically a timesink.

Fedora was all right, i liked the delta package updates, but every time i installed nvidia proprietary drivers it broke.

OpenSUSE was nice for running KDE, but just didn't feel comfy. YAST feels like bloat compared to Ubuntu's configuration tools.

Debian is basically Ubuntu on hard mode and more outdated (aka stable).

Never tried Gentoo because I didn't want to compile everything, I did try FreeBSD which was pretty fun but was missing many ports (or they didn't compile properly).

I really like being able to update without breaking things and I've only managed to accomplish this with a pretty minimal Arch install. It just werks, as long as I don't install too many things and keep it lightweight.

Funtoo was close, except for not being able to update it because of an absurd amount of dependency problems that I needed to manually resolve.

Debian and Fedora are nice on servers where I don't really care too much about having the latest packages, but aptitude and dnf a shit.

Only ever used an only entrprise version of SUSE, but it had no packages and I had to install a Debian chroot to make it usable.

You are fat, you are retarded, your opinions are retarded -- all your arguments are invalid. Please die and leave this board, everyone hates you.

I am using Arch, I am none of the above: MEANING: Not a collosal fat fuck with a BMI of 39 and installing and setting up Arch with a KDE installation literally took me 30-40 minutes and I've been running it since with 0 issues.

So I'd argue that my opinion is worth more than yours. While I'm at it: So am I and so is literally anyone else on this board who isn't a huge (body-size) retard.
>>
>>54245433
Not him and outside of this there is no positive benefit for being fat, you are killing yourself and will statistically have trouble making it past 40 and in extreme weight cases 30

I would say that you could at least feel you fit in with the fat acceptance movement but hilariously it's cracking apart into several size groups of "small fats" and "large fats" the latter of whom insist that the smaller ones are oppressing them just a little versus normal people. No I am not making this up.

It still doesn't have all the packages I want, and I'm kind of dependent on the AUR for getting the most recent commit for certain packages. NixOS makes it a pain in the ass to install things manually too (can't just make and make install). Apart from that and the lack of startx, I want to like it.

arch is minimal operating system, it's kinda up to you to make it useful for your purposes.

i really don't get the arch meme to be honest.

I know that, but there are so many more minimal choices. why use something thats prone to constantly breaking?
>>

>constantly breaking
Coming from the fat shit that doesn't even use Arch
>>
>>54245894
No one does -- it's all just fat shitposters, or a single fat shitposter. I'm not even sure anymore.

X never breaks, it's not wasting time, AUR is huge and /g/ loved it once. Then some fat retard who was too retarded to get it to work got literally so fed up with it that he made those anti-arch shotpost images and kept spamming them in so many threads until he created the impression that people actually disliked it and that there was a concrete reason for doing so.

It's ridiculous.

Arch is not good because of "minimalism." Arch is good because of pacman and the AUR. The fact that the base install is minimal is nice for me. If you're doing things right, you only configure things how you want once. If you're installing after that, you just run install scripts to set up everything how you want. For example, I use salt to install all my packages, create my user, setup my systemd services, and set up my root configuration files like my fstab. This is trivial to do.

Breaking something means you fucked up.

bleeding edge constant updates. having to sit down and tweak everything after them. If people have a smoother time thats cool. There's really nothing wrong with Arch, but it really is just made to tinker with and nothing more. check with most anyone using gnu/linux for work, i'd bet there is less than 3% who use Arch for anything.

For which software did that happen? I've been running Arch for months now and the only issue I had since was gtk 3.20 breaking my theme (which was quickly fixed by changing it).

I feel that you are being dishonest.

It depends on what you're looking to do. If you want to customize your distro to no end, I prefer Gentoo. If you want a good, general, solid OS that works well out-of-the-box, I would recommend Ubuntu.
But in the end it's all about what you're trying to do with the machine.

The reason I use arch is because I've already configured it how I want it to be and don't have to fuck around with anything anymore. If I was just trying linux out, I wouln't go with arch, but arch does not involve constant tweaking. Tweak once and forget about it.

The only time I've ever had anything break since I started using arch 2 years ago was last year the wifi at my uni stopped working. Kid running debian in my class had the same problem.

I rolled back an update and it was good to go. Took 5 minutes because of how easy pacman makes it to restore from cached packages, and how good the Arch wiki is. I could search the issue, learn how to do something important, and fix it in 5 minutes. I don't remember what the debian kid did but I doubt he fixed it as easily as he could have if he was on Arch.
