I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Linux is literally perfect, aside from game developers optimising their shit for directx 12, linux is better in almost every way. It's faster, it doesn't come included with bloatware, it's very customisable, it's very secure etc. The only thing stopping me from fully moving to linux is the fact that I still need windows and directx in 2016 despite vulkan existing.

Not sure why people have such negative opinions of that system. I doubt most of the people that shit on Me have ever used it. It crashes no more than 95, 98, and 98se did, and it conveniently comes with drivers for usb mass storage devices.

The only downside of it is you don't have the ms dos mode reboot option, but you can easily solve that by modifying the boot files to give you multiple boot options (windows mode, and several different dos modes for your different needs).

Drivers isn't much of a problem either.

Seen people people shit on 2k too for some reason. Either they confuse it with Me, or they shit on that too since it isn't XP.

I think Me is really nice for a late 90s gaming rig. Drivers works, and games run well. 2k I think was the best version of Windows (and NT). It was so simple and easy to use. What came after is harder and more confusing to use I think.
>>
>>54201074
>Not sure why people have such negative opinions of that system.
Because I was in my teens for it's initial release and remember nothing but blue screens. 2k was much more stable. It was so bad, it was what encouraged me to go and look for something else to install on my computer. I went to a brick and mortar and found SuSE Linux being sold (this was probably just before the Novell takeover, so version 7 or 8 I think from memory) and have used Linux since.

I fucking hated Windows ME. Add to that Pentium 4's and their worse performance to Pentium 3 and the subsequent cover ups and kick backs bullshit by Intel and a propensity for the things to cook themselves, I did not enjoy the early 2000s for computing.

The most jew-tastic bit was them fucking around with benchmarking software so that if it didn't identify itself as an Intel chip, or have certain instruction sets, it borked the performance output to make their chips look better.

I'm 23, live in America, work as a software developer, and every computer I use runs Linux and only Linux.

I work as an embedded software developer, and everyone on my team uses Fedora as their primary work OS, only using a windows machine if they need some program that doesn't run on Linux (which is almost never.)

Ever since I've joined, I've been slowly teaching them how to use WINE, and they've been happily switching to a Linux-only work flow.

It may surprise you, but there are a lot of people who have the reverse problem you all have with Linux. On linux everything we need just werks, and almost all the software we use runs better on Linux to the point where we'd be lost if we had to use windows for anything more than web browsing.

Like civilzation 5, baldurs gate series, crusader kings 2, europa unversalis 4.. etc. Any game for an adult, like strategy and RPG works on GNU/Linux. If you have a job, you're probably using *nix.
Whenever I'm working on personal stuff, getting intimate with dot files and generally being a geek, I'm on ubuntu.

Currently a web developer ( I'm striving towards computer security, forgive me. couldn't get a job out of school ) So I got a mac book from my employers. Literally only use it to work. It just feels like a pre-configured, prettier, more compatible version of my ubuntu desktop, which I'm still connected to at work 24/7.

My media server is running ubuntu, I couldn't even imagine what a windows server would be like. This media server does exactly as it should.

Plus I have it housed in a cardboard box. Gotta love that.

My desktop has a windows10 partition for my pirated games, and steamOS partition for legit games.

At this point, I only ever use windows to play my cracked skyrim.
