It's funny how people mostly compliment my watch because of the strap. Happened yesterday at the campus again.

That's a decent price, but have in mind the case is chromed brass not stainless and it feels a bit cheap. I've got the military issued one and it's a great watch so if you dig the looks and its cool movement go for it.
>>
>>54035420
The black day/date wheel is the only reason I can see to get that over an SKX and that's a super autistic reason.
>>
>>54035592
I agree and that's not necessarily an autistic reason, it's just a matter aesthetics. Hope I could find a good offer like him, I think he paid like just 50€ if I recall correctly.

I'm really well used to chrome plated cases, not really an issue here since i wanted the export version P3133. And they only come with chromed cases.

If 10/10 is a clean 1675 pepsi bezel GMT-Master and 9/10 is a Spring Drive Snowflake then 8/10 is pretty damn good.

I'd give your GS an 8 also, it's pretty nice and the dial is very cool looking even if I personally wouldn't pick one of those tapestry dials with the lions and stuff.
>>
>>54035118

Yeah, I know. I'm still mad about the blue sunburst 5146 i got outbid on a couple months ago on eBay.
>>
>>54034890

Say you work in an office environment. You adhere to a certain dress code. Most of the time you wear visually plain shirts of unusually high-quality material/construction that have been tailored to you. Most likely nobody will ever say a word about it.

Some random Friday you come in wearing an ill-fitting, cheaply made shirt in a bold paisley print. On that day you will get complements - from women in particular.

I speculate that a lot of people confuse visual complexity with aesthetic merit, but there are lots of other possible reasons for the phenomenon.

The fact that you can get away from the 7S26, gaining handwinding in the process, is a good enough reason to get an NY0040 over an SKX007. That being said, you do lose the 120 click bezel.

>>54037535
It's the worst feeling. I once lost a beautiful blue King Quartz by $3, and I recently got outbid on a NOS Elnix because I underestimated how much someone else would pay for it. Guess I'll stick with the not-quite-NOS Elnix.
>>
>>54038326
Citizen owner here.

The 60 click bezel isn't too terrible, much nicer and easier to grip then the SKX's but the 90click does feel a lot more crisp.

Elenix are also very interesting watches. Recently saw a very clean one listed, likely even NOS but without the bracelet.

The Elnix is pretty neat and I think it doesn't get enough credit all things considered. It's sort of in that weird twilight land between Seiko's Hi-Beat mechanicals and the jeweled Penisquartz movements, so it gets missed by people who normally buy those. If a battery doesn't bother you then it is pretty much the cheapest way to a 28,800 movement, and mine has been just astoundingly accurate (around +2 seconds per day, it gained about a minute in a month). Servicing requirements are pretty light, too.

You can find them with some pretty gnarly case shapes and colour schemes, like this NOS example here.

They are definitely interesting contraptions, same as Citizen's Cosmotron series. Especially the later 78XX series Cosmotrons which are the cheapest 36000bph watches you can get now, and maintain the same accuracy as the elenix series.

As far as i recall Citizen made a very late 43200 Bph version, along with a Cosmotron tuning fork.

Though i thinking about pic related though, a much more traditional case style and dial.

No better than any other department store brand. It's an "accuracy by volume" kind of thing. If you put out enough shitty designs you'll eventually get one that consumers adopt. Then you do selfish-meme variants on that design until you get another one that consumers adopt, etc.

That's the opposite of thoughtful design.

Seiko, by and large, puts out designs that are at worst forgettable and at best iconic. Everyone has a dud every now and again, but Seiko has relatively few of them and they're mostly confined to the lowest of the low quartz models. Pretty much everything else shows obvious attention to detail and overall aesthetics. They don't fall flat on their face all the time like, say, Citizen does. Even stuff that's divisive, like the Tuna or the Monster, is clearly well thought-out and not just mashed together from a series of incongruent ideas. That's a common Seiko touch and it's what makes them so revered.

If you want to see "accuracy by volume" in action, take a look at Tissot (or even Omega, for that matter).

I think the watch industry is mostly past the "mechanical is intrinsically inferior, electronic is intrinsically inferior" stage.

Nobody really "needs" a watch anymore. So it's all about how creative and interesting you can get with technology. Right now materials science has been making a lot of crazy stuff possible for mechanical watches, so we're seeing a lot of creative work in that domain. There's no reason quartz movements can't be as interesting - it's just that building off of an electrical power source is currently regarded as easy-mode engineering. Once we - again - start to run up against the limitations of available technology, we may start to see a movement back towards electronic wristwear.

Donnou.

I'm not expert either, i occasionally get good pictures.

The Iphone 6 for example definitely has a better camera then mine, but picture taking is not all about the quality of the camera. Most important point is good lighting and making and proper focusing won't hurt.

There is a dedicated photography board here, but they will likely tell you to go buy a proper camera. (I never really go there)

Just tried so with mine as well. Was running about +40 secs fast a day, and the timing app said about the same. Had the movement for two years by now so i'm aware of what it's worth.

I tried doing as you did when i regulated my Midas a while back and it was a bit annoying. French POS movement was gaining like 4~5 minutes per day, got it down to about +1 min per day after a week of tinkering. Then again what would i as

You will only see the real difference within a 5~6 hours with that method.

I used Wildspectra, there's two very useful videos online on it.

The one in the picture (which was sold), did alright. Here's some timing ran on it. But the LM special with +2/-1 secs per day shits all over it.

Same here, adjusted it 8 hours ago and so far no gain what so ever.

Though you should remember that the watch, is being kept static and isn't exposed to positional variance.
>>
>>54050181
I had a blue dialed Wenger a while back, got it as a middle school graduation present. At the time I thought it was good, but knowing what I know now and looking back, I have to say that for the price it was one of the most uninspiring and underwhelming watches I've ever owned. The movement was a cheap ETA date-only quartz affair, the steel case was poorly finished and plastered with Swiss crosses despite being made in Canada, the water resistance was only 50m, the crystal was a shitty mineral compound that scratched easily, the links were made from the thinnest hollow steel you could find and were all bent after 2 years, and the bezel was an incredibly loose 60-click (but it felt like 40 clicks) thing that had the markings wear off in a little over a year.

When I graduated from high school, my uncle bought me a Citizen Promaster 5502 quartz dive watch (I used to be really into water sports before having one of my lungs removed). Even though it was just one of Citizen's run of the mill quartz offerings, and even though it took me years to get into watches after receiving it, I'm way more thankful for getting the Promaster than the Wenger. The Promaster showed me what a GOOD watch should be; it was mildly aesthetically pleasing and durable as all hell. The Wenger was just cheap department store shit, like all Wengers.

That's just, like, your opinion, man.

There are a grand total of 3 crosses on the entirety of my watch, one on the underside of the watch head, one under the 12 in the watch face, and one on the clasp (only the one on the face has/had color).

My watch is water resistant to 200m. My dad also has a wenger watch that he bought after he gave this one to me which is also water resistant to 200m.

You should realize that whenever these sellers get bad feedback they open up new accounts.

But you do have a point, they are Indian copies of old Citizen movements and were of dubious quality to start with.

>>54052118
Have fun with that.
>>
>>54051620
I wasn't insinuating that your watch had only 50M of resistance, I was describing the one my parents ignorantly paid $200 for almost 12 years ago. If I recall, the Citizen was not much more expensive despite being a much better watch. Hence the point I was trying to illustrate was that Wenger is a poor value proposition.

One thing I do have to hand to my Wenger, though, is it looked a hell of a lot better than this one. At least it was all stainless steel. That worn-out dial (and not worn out in a Wabi-sabi kind of way, it's worn out in a "this was cheaply made" sort of way), the two-tone colour scheme with faux gold and the needless appendages all combine to create a special kind of hideous.

Don't take it personally, but it really is not a good watch. You can get much better stuff for less money even from Swatch and the fucking Russians, let alone the comparably priced offerings from Seiko and Citizen. Take this as a learning opportunity.

To be honest, Seiko 5s are not that known by normies either. Before I gave my SNK809 to my brother, I wore it to my old office a few times and all my coworkers were amazed that I had a mechanical watch. One girl even said something along the lines of "it works with your hand movements? I thought only Rolex could do that!"

Normies assume that all watches run on batteries. A Seiko 5 is already a nifty curiosity to them, and a Vostok would be just beyond left field. And forget about explaining an Elnix or an Accutron.
