How do I disable this Windows 10 update shit? I still haven't figured out 8/8.1 because of the shitty interface, but I don't want to update. I just got a GTX 950, which has an 8 pin power connector.

My old-ish power source (600W) only has a 6 pin connector. The card came with an adapter cable that has an 8 pin on one side and 2 6 pins on the other. I only connected one and it works, but I'm afraid I'm gonna burn something.

How much of a retard I am for doing that, and how urgently should I get a new psu? I only did it because the 950 is a low end card and shouldn't draw too much power.

Stupid question here.

I downloaded a linux version of a game I have from a humble bundle but I'm having trouble installing it. I'm not sure what I should be doing with the files downloaded.. if I should even be installing it or if I should run it or something.
The game came in zipped and when extracted there is .x86 file and a folder containing assets and other data. What should I do to 'run' or 'install' it?
I've tried using the console and just double clicking on the .x86 file but no dice, I tried google but still no luck.

Help please

Don't worry, but it would really help us help you if we knew what you were using.

If it's Xubuntu, did you try install that libglu1-mesa:i386 via the command line?

Steam is not necessarily a bad thing, it might even have installed that lib for you.

For now, just tell me what happens once you install the lib and run

./ParanauticalActivity.x86 (or whatever it was)

through the command line. Try using autocomplete with Tab to get the right file name. The one in the zip file has a space which doesn't help. I can see why this was a clusterfuck to get working. Those idiots have packaged it so amateurishly.

you want an alternative to fraps. That's OBS.

You want to know why you can't use the traditional screenshot feature on games. There's a number of reasons, but mainly it's because the screenshot feature is a part of the GUI composer, and most games run on a different level.

That's as simple as I can put it.

Other than what I already said in this thread, the basic problem you're having is that the game depends on the presence of certain library files which do not seem to be installed on your system.

Once you find out how to get these on your chromebook and what distro you have it shouldn't be impossible. But clearing the first few hurdles may seem hard because most of us are not using chromebooks. I know there will be a few others out there who are using a chromebook though.

I had added their unstable PPA from their launchpad a few hours ago, but I decided to remove it as I didn't want an unstable version and it seemed outdated so I said to the hell with it, so is it possible that fucked something up? And I just did that and got "iridium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra - Extra ffmpeg codecs for the Iridium Browser" that's all, though.

Well now we're getting somewhere

Google that lib file "libXcursor" whatever it is, find out how to install it (like you did with the libglu1-mesa:i386 file) and install it and keep doing this until you have all the required stuff

Remember the key thing here is that you're trying to run a i386 game on a 64bit system which is why you need to install the i386 version of the lib

(by doing similar to how you installed the libglu1-mesa by adding :i386 on the end of the file)

my laptop's hdd is partially dead. it cannot boot to w7 anymore, but on boot it boots to startup repair, which lets me access all the data on it (except for recycle bin, which requires a proper w7 boot)

I plugged a 32gb usb flash drive into the above laptop, then started deleting a large folder on it, to free up space for moving data. however, this deletion is ~30gb of data, and has taken 50 minutes so far.

my question is, would it be quicker to remove the aforementioned flash drive that's in the middle of deleting content, plug it into a different PC and format it instead? the flash drive is 32gb in size. the data being deleted is 29gb. there is no progress bar for how much has been deleted so far. also, if I do remove the flash drive mid-deletion, will I corrupt any data on it?

tl;dr: is formatting a 32gb flash drive faster then using windows to delete 29gb of data on the flash drive? also, would removing a flash drive mid-deletion corrupt any data on it?

only reading and responding to the tl;dr will be just as fine, since the rest of the post only provides context. thank you.

Good morning gentlemen,

I'm very new to web development and collaborating on projects. I come to you with stupid question.

I would like to contribute to a GiT project. I have cloned the repository to my machine and installed all dependencies locally.

I assumed that because the whole project and dependencies were stored in the same directory I would be able to open 'index.html' in my browser the it would just 'work'. This is not the case.

What do I have to do to get this running locally?

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply.

I've found a website which explained how to get a local web server running on a mac osx by going to Terminal and using sudo apachectl start.

I've navigated to /Library/WebServer directory.

Is that where I should move my node-modules folder (filled with dependencies) and the actual project folder to? Or should I move it in to the Documents folder within the WebServer directory?

The path would look like:

/Library/WebServer/Documents/node-modules
/Library/WebServer/Documents/project_name

I have a desktop running windows 8.1 and I'll soon be buying a new thinkpad that only comes with windows 10. I own an older thinkpad with the original windows 7 on it. Is it possible to to transfer my copy of windows 7 onto my desktop or my new windows 10 thinkpad? I considered the possibility of creating a recovery image on a usb drive and using that to install win 7. Last time I used the recovery image it explicitly warned me that it was for the original machine only. Will I somehow fuck up my machines by trying to use the recovery image? The end result is to have all 3 of my machines running windows 7 including the older thinkpad. Any other suggestions for getting windows 7 are appreciated.

>>
>>53758071
Why not go along with what the tech support people suggest? How do you know for certain it's a hardware issue and not a software one -- that is what they're trying to test by having you try it with the other driver. If it does turn out to be a software issue, you've just wasted your and their time and money, and failed to solve the problem by replacing the component that isn't the problem.
>>
>>53758152
What exactly are you worried about becoming obsolete? CPUs don't get slower, they just aren't as fast as more recent ones (though even that trend has significantly slowed down). What are you planning on using this CPU for? If it's gaming, then either CPU will be fine; the chances of anything bottlenecking on the CPU and not the GPU are pretty much nil. If it's not gaming, then it entirely depends on what you're using it for (compiling massive code bases? video encoding? running a web server?).

I've got an LCD TV with no headphones in and I want to plug in my pair. The sound will be from my PS3 connected via HDMI
What are some alternatives to get my headphones plugged in? from what I've researched I can use RCA to female 3,5mm which seems to be the cheapest option, but will the sound quality degrade considerably?

Note, if you clone you'll still have to deal with activation since it's probably an OEM copy. Those are tied to the mobo, and moving it to a different model will invalidate your license. You can install Daz Loader on any Win7 to fix activation issues.

>>53758519
Are you sure you're looking at an RCA output, not an input? Go with the RCA to female 3.5mm, and throw in an in-line volume control or it'll be hella loud. If your TV has a half decent DAC in it, you'll get fine sound that way. If your TV has a craptastic DAC, go with optical and connect it to a receiver that has a decent DAC.

sudo modprobe
for my sound card as well.

I have tried disabling ALSA and Pulse, but nothing seems to be working. When I have Pulse enabled, ncmpcpp gives me a volume percentage, but with ALSA, it only gives "n/a".

What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something? Should I install more packages?
