Why don't people use XP anymore?
>>
Unsupported, outdated, unstable and unsecure.

Still pretty comfy though.
>>
>>52190030
Unstable and outdated for what purposes?
>>
let it go
still using xp now would be like keeping a vegetable in life support
>>
>>52190010
because 7 does everything better

and xp 64-bit is a mess
>>
>>52190067
How does 7 do anything better?
>>
>>52190041
The use of any modern program, for one.
>>
>>52190085
more like for all
>>
>>52190076
it just does
the search in the start menu alone is worth the upgrade
>>
The company chain to which we give support still use it in around 1500 of their computers, some have Seven now, it just a bit more hard to work with those. Now, fuck windows server 2012, I hate that fucking piece of shit.
>>
>>52190030
This, except for the unstable part.

my cousin is bothering me to reinstall windows on his 2002 machine
should i use xp or the simplest 7 version?
>>
>>52190076
Interface is better, support for newer tech, better security etc., etc. XP was incredible for its time and had an impressive lifespan, but let's face it, its dead.
>>
>>52190272
You mean the windows 7 that won't let you change your wallpaper? (Is it still like that?)
>>
>>52190291
That was windows 7 starter that came in netbooks.
>>
>>52190291
yeah its called basic or home edition or some shiet
>>
>>52190010
I will tell you later.
>>
>tfw you clearly remember the joy shared with yourself and all your family as your dad could finally afford buying a computer and it was Windows XP
>tfw we all had our own user accounts and it was the best thing ever as a kid to have your own home on the computer
>>
>>52190272
for very old machines i'd suggest to use linux, great support out of the box, lightweight (lighter than XP) and browsing is the best they can do anyway
>>
>>52190291
that shit was crazy, there was an easy mod to do that thought.
>>
>>52190392
we are talking about a 40yo man who calls me in order to send pics from his phone to the pc..
linux was never an option.
>>
>>52190377
You brought warm tears to my eyes. I love you. You were loved as a person. You may now die and rest peacefully.
>>
>>52190430
i'd not install linux on the average joe's pc (nor i'd do it on my main computer, sometimes i do but then i get bored) but if all he does is browsing and reading mails on a 13 years old PC then linux should be fine.
tell him it's time to buy something newer if he's disappointed, i had 7 on a pentium 4, it used to run but it was slow, kde was better.
>>
>>52190041
I gotta interject, XP is now the most stable of windows ever released, and lightweight.
I still use it more than Win7 and Debian.
>>
>>52190663
Terrible advice, Linux is ditching old hardware with new free drivers that are forced and don't support correctly old AGP stuff.
>>52188816
So if you got like a P4 or an AthlonXP, install XP, use commonsense.
I think I'm gonna reinstall it one day.
>>
>>52190010
Half of the PCs in our company use XP. It's alright.
>>
>tfw no XP mode for 8.1 Pro

Fucking Microsoft, I would never run XP as my main OS though, way too insecure even with antivirus

True.
Except for the stability it breaks as any other OS and fixing it is really easy.
I found an old laptop that had
system32/DRIVERS/pci.sys
corrupted error.
Took me a few seconds to boot a live linux session and copy intact files an problem solved.
>>
My grandparents still use it because they are used to it.

>>
>>52193401
Oh God.
Where is that from?
>>
>>52193996
it's literally the first fucking result if you google "OS market share"
>>
>>52192992
>psychology is applied biology
lol, wut?
>>
>>52193401
>Windows 10 - 9.96%
>OSX 11.1 - 2.99%
>Other - 5.14%

Over 80% of people are using deprecated operating systems.
>>
Don't know.

I still use it for the rare situations I can't do something on Linux.
It's snappy, lighweight and 20GB of space is more than plenty.
>>
>>52194145
brains are made of meat, stupid
>>
>>52193401
Most of those are likely old PCs in the industrial sector that are only changed once the die.
>>
>>52194339
Who the fucks visit OS survey websites on industrial sector PCs that usually serve one and only one purpose, which most of the time is run some obscure software and nothing else
>>
>>52194276
It's not.
Meat means "skeletal muscles of vertebrates with adjacent tissues".
Brain is composed of nerve cells and glial cells
>>
>>52194458
so if I eat salad and brains am I an omnivore or a vegetarian?
>>
>>52194521
Carnivore by definiton is an organism who with a diet consisting of animal tissues. It's not specified to eating meat.

Eating salad with brains makes you an omnivore, which all humans are.
>>
>>52191702
>Terrible advice, Linux is ditching old hardware with new free drivers that are forced and don't support correctly old AGP stuff.

Where did you hear this?
>>
>>52191702
Good advice Rajeet
I'll deposit your rupees
>>
>>52194458
Are brains not biological then m8
>>
>>52190010
>XP
Fuck off
>>
>>52190272
XP or Mint. And I'm not saying this to be a /g/tard but to actually be helpful. Mint is by far the best for an old ass laptop. If he wants stability, go with that and if he can't appreciate the work, tell him to go buy a laptop. Mint is simple and amazing to use on older hardware.

>>52190291
starter did that but getting a ultimate key is easy as balls.
>>
>>52190010
2K always had a better interface and was rock solid as fuck

Everytime I upgrade 2K workstations to XP I instantly regret it, the whole OS just runs like shit.
>>
>>52190010
oh trust me tons of government departments still use xp
