I got a pair of Jaybird bluetooth headphones that I have paired with my laptop and Android phone. Problem is that when I reset my laptop or switch to my phone, it is impossible for me to reconnect my headphones to my laptop without completely disconnecting and repairing it with my computer.

Love these headphones, but this process is a huge pain in the ass. How the fuck do I keep my bluetooth headphones from becoming "disconnected" every time my machine resets or I need to switch to my phone? Why does it say "paired" in bluetooth settings yet "disconnected" in the audio settings?

Let's assume all devices have the latest bluetooth technology.

I run win8.1 pro
Recently it became somewhat slow, like after restart it boots up and I try to run task manager, TM loads but also freezes/does not refresh for about 10 seconds, I can switch tabs but it just wont refresh, if I try to close it the ui dissapears but window border does not, some other programs act in similar fashion (like foobar, or if I try to open network manager it literally takes 20 seconds for the window to open), but ff and other programs load instantly
I have cheap tier plextor msata ssd, disk managent says its in good health but I suspect otherwise.

Another thread sparked my interest ( >>52035330) and I was wondering about graphics cards in relation to vram.

man mpd.conf gives the order which mpd looks for a local configuration file. It will look for ~/.config/mpd/mpd.conf first, then ~/.mpdconf, and lastly ~/.mpd/mpd.conf. Assuming you want to go with the more traditional option, go with a subdirectory under config

I bought a second hand 2.5 hard drive yesterday, the disk in question is a Seagate st320lt007 thin hd. I asked the seller for smart captures and he complied, nothing was wrong. When I got it first thing I did was ran recuva for any interesting shit and it got stuck halfway, after that I rechecked smart data and found attributes C5 - Current Pending Sector Count and C6 - Uncorrectable Sector Count at a raw value of 8, while smart data said it was 100 with a thresold of 0 so acording to the disk its alright, there were no reasigned sectors according to attribute 05.

So I decided to run clean all in diskpart, It took a little less than an hour with no errors reported. I rechecked smart again and attributes c5 and c6 were back to a raw value of 0. Crystaldisk info marks it as good. But now the attribute BB - Reported Uncorrectable Errors has a raw value of 240, and 1 in smart data with 0 being the threshold. Im filling it with junk data with h2testw and veryfing it, seems stable, not running hot and no more C4, C5, C6 or reallocated sectors

Should I keep using it? It seems it had spent 3 years without running judging by what recuva found. I bought it only as an auxiliar drive for whatever shit I could need like temporaly moving large files around.

Also I though Uncorrectable Sector Count wasnt supposed to change, could it be the drive just needed a ´refresh´?

/g/ I need tech support help on Windows tablets/laptops

I've currently got an Asus T100, it's a tablet, has an Intel Atom processor and for a while I've pretty much been using it as my primary device. I'm on a Computing/Engineering course though and think it's time to upgrade to something that will hopefully suffice for that course and handle more intensive tasks as well as some vidya, even if it is on lower settings

My budget is probably around £600, but I've been out of the tablet and latop loop for so long I really don't know where to look. Ideally I'd want something around 13" but no smaller than 10.1" and fanless, because I've grown accustomed to a small form factor and it'd be nice if it functioned as a tablet as well

I've had a look at the Asus T300 Chi and it seems pretty damn good, but the reportedly poor battery life (I'd prefer around 7 or 8 hours at least) and lack of a proper USB port put me off. I'd be fine with something like the Lenovo Yoga, but I just don't know what's what.

Any help?

TL;DR want a capable 2 in 1 Windows machine/ultrabook for around £600 with decent battery life

Dude, someone has to be seeding it for you to be downloading it. Seeding means they have all the files within the torrent available and are giving you the opportunity to download it from them. If no one is seeding at all, and there are no leechers, you are not downloading anything. Using two computers to connect to nothing will still get you nothing.

Hey guys when I was best buy today I was messing around on some of their laptops, and I used the site can you run it to see if it could run some games I wanted to play.

The laptop had a quad core 1.6ghz processor, and the game required 2.4ghz. It had passed the inspection however saying I have a "1.6ghz processor / rated 2.9ghz. I assume this meant that with the quad core it read 1.6 as a functiong 2.9?

It was a 500 dollar laptop and I just want to be able to run Crusader Kings II and dolphin emulator on my school laptop.

I own a Thinkpad T420 and I asked this over in /tpg/ but I reckon it's a stupid enough question anyhow:

On a wireless connection I get some stuttering in online games while I don't have any on a wired connection.

I have a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6250 AGN for my network card, is there some sort of driver I should use to fix this or would I be better off replacing it?

The processor is an i7 but I don't know much about network cards so maybe a Centrino is garbage just like the Centrino processors.

If it is an i7 then there's hope. Find out what kind of wifi card it uses and find an ac dual band to increase wifi performance.

It's not overclocking. Did you even read the link I posted? Anyway, yes the laptop is designed for 2.9Ghz it will be fine.

Okay I'll stop fucking with you. You cna throw in any brand and model any amount of GBc any frequency you want. The only thing you need to take note of is if your current RAM runs at ie 1600Mhz and you put in 1333Mhz your bios will downclock all sticks to match the lowest common speed, 1333Mhz. You can create bottlenecks so beware

So I chose Python as my very first language, and I've been using it for a few months now

But after lurking this board I'm thinking if I should stay with it and if I should keep investing time and energy into it. When I do something with a file like unzip a torrent it will make the noise until it's done extracting or like right now it made the noise for one second when i started playing an album, not during the whole album but just for a second into the first song playing.

As pic explains, I'm an idiot so speak slowly.

Minor question leading to larger one:
I'm connecting my bluetooth headphones to my PC to see if the crackly effect that I dislike when using them with my phone is a problem of the headphones or my phone's bluetooth.
>Do bluetooth headphones in general just not sound to clear or is it something I can fix with either new phone or new headphones?

Larger question: When I connect them to my PC (Windows 8.1) they will play sound from it but it sounds like awful phone call quality and I can hear everything I'm doing because of the headphones mic. So basically my PC thinks I want to connect the mic too.
>How do I tell it these are just bluetooth headphones not some shit headset for calls? Can't find a way to tell Windows what this is.

Trying to learn more about programming in general.

There's plenty of sites out there that give tutorials and walk you through the coding process by giving you simple problems to solve and having you create the code itself.

Are there any Youtube channels or video series that let you watch someone who is really skilled at coding go through the process?

I'd like to see what it's like to actually be a good programmer, sitting at a desk and working on a project, seeing what programs they use, what resources they have, etc etc.

Does that make any sense?

What about Windows 8.1? Say I have 7 installed on my current "C" drive, but install 8.1 on another one like "F". Will that bug things up?
>>
>>52043535
Probably. The windows installer will see that you have another version installed so it will go ahead and update the bootloader for you. 8.1 and 7 use a different bootloader by default so it will be annoying to boot 7. You'll have to fully load 8.1 and then reboot to load 7.

Like I said, you could just disconnect the hard drive that has windows 7 so when you install 8.1, it doesn't modify anything and then just choose which drive to boot in the boot menu.

>>52043682
If you install both OS on the same time, one loader is going to see the other loader and try and chainload it for you. If you disconnect the primary drive (that already has an os) and install another os on a secondary physical drive, then you can use your boot menu as a boot loader and just go straight into the os on the particular drive. Multiple OS can exist at the same time without messing with eachother. Only during install do they usually poke and prod.

This might be more a question for /diy/, but I'm working on creating a small box/ panel of switches and buttons for various controls and functions in the game Elite: Dangerous with an arduino or raspberry pi. I was hoping to have it do stuff like activate landing gear or scroll through the menus so I can use the keyboard/mouse to fly. It's more for immersion that for being useful, but I guess I just basically need to map the program to various keyboard buttons so that when I flip a switch it 'presses' the button. Can someone help me get started with this? I don't have much experience with using either, and I was hoping this would be a good starter project
>>

Just buy a shitty keyboard and connect the keys to buttons on your control panel. I forget the name but there's a program that lets you have 2 keyboards and use one as a macro board. Probably the simplest solution but if you want to learn microcontrollers then do it your way.

I'm looking through a bunch of laser printers in an online shop and noticed something peculiar:

Some of the cheap models have a "monthly print capacity" in their specs, for example 2000 pages. wtf is this supposed to mean? At say 20 pages/min you should be able to print 2k pages in less than 2 hours, theoretically.

I imagine it's technically possible to lock the printer after x pages for y days, and I know that some companies actually produce devices with such artificial limits (for example a company I used to work for produces gas sensors and offers cheap evaluation versions where the firmware would only allow x readings per day and shut down completely after y readings so that customers wouldn't be able to 'abuse' them for real applications and never buy the full price models). But I never heard that they do it with printers - do they?

I've experienced artifacts in sound/video files due to hdd fragmentation many years ago - but I think this shouldn't be any issue nowadays, and it occured during transfer, not after the files were sitting there for a while. Data decay like you describe it shouldn't happen and is a sign that something is wrong... could be a virus fucking up your media files, could be your hdd starting to fail, could be your drivers, faulty RAM,... plenty possibilities, but either way it should never happen under normal circumstances (inb4 rotational velocidensity)

I have been creating checksums of all files I download and copy there from now on and I have caught corruption during transfers but I had a file on there that checked out fine. I used to sell these printers so that means I actually know nothing about them and I'm pulling this info out of my ass, but I believe that means duty cycle. You can print more but if you print substantially more than that it may invalidate your warranty and or cause premature wear on the machine and break down.

If anything, the only that will stop after 2000 pages in a month would be your warranty and probably your toner cartridge.

Do you really expect to print that much?

This just happened to me too. I think it may have gotten corrupt in a transfer though and went unnoticed for a few weeks/years. I regularly back up my two drives to each other by just copying all the data from one to the other and vice versa and comparing existing files with pending copies. Somewhere along the line, one of the movies I had encoded ended up shrinking down to 167mb (which would be damn impressive if it played for more than 5 minutes) on one of the two drives during a reorganizational period and I accidentally overwrote the uncorrupted version on the other hard drive because I wasn't actually checking the data (don't hit the yes to all button without actually knowing what all is).

At least I can just rerip and reencode the movie. Oh well.

Maybe a program was accessing the file and the drive got yanked? Like a thumbnailer or media library indexer. Or maybe windows decided to defrag your shit? Idk. I would just assume a software fuckup though and not a hardware error since you can't reproduce the anomaly.

Sounds like either a hard drive issue or a power supply issue. Are you using a UPS?

>They grow more frequent after each fresh install of windows I believe.
Sounds like an annoying coincidence. Can you replicate the issue by doing something specific? Does it seem to be a certain time of day that this occurs? Unplug everything that you can, including the 970 if you have integrated, and see if it still hangs. Are you on the latest BIOS?

>>52046212

Yeah, I'm clueless. I'm assuming it has something to do with the USB connection and also guessing it has something to do with windows updates. I only do security updates now so maybe there is a update that fixes this bug but I don't have it, thinking of going with all updates next to see if shit stops. I also notice that it really only happens with files over 1 GB in size. all smaller files almost always copy fine but when copying batch large files it can end up like 3 out of 10 files corrupted on average.

Depends on the device/battery. You can easily damage
simple' batteries by overcharging, I almost set my room on fire with recharging batteries for an RC car overnight couple years ago. And you could impact the capacity (of older batteries) with chronic undercharging, some kind of memory effect dunno the physics behind that. With 'modern' stuff like contemporary cellphones you got electronics which are supposed to prevent that, though, and undercharging shouldn't be a problem either nowadays.

Certainly possible, but not generally. I got my old phone hooked up to my PC for maybe half a year now, still werks.

Wait, you're getting multiple files consistently corrupted? Have you checked a checksum immediately after copying (or using one of those fancy file copy programs that does it for you)? Is it only the one hard drive or computer that you copy from? Maybe it's a bad usb cable. Have you checked the SMART data on the external?

If you have time and space for some troubleshooting, I would try and reproduce the exact conditions in which you get corrupt files and try to eliminate one thing at a time. If it was just every now and then, I'd assume just bad luck. If the files are being corrupted during or immediately after copy then that leads me to believe some sort of hardware error but if it's some time later (even if only a few minutes) then it's definitely software fucking your shit.

Yeah, and again, I think it's just marking bull directed at people who are looking for an office printer. They don't want to sell someone a 'home printer' and then have them call up saying that it jammed up after feeding it the fourth ream of paper this week because the printer wasn't designed to handle so much. There is a reason 15,000$ printers exist after all.

BGA means Ball-Grid array. The CPUs using this 'socket' type are soldered directly to the motherboard. If your machine has an actual socketed chip that can be replaced then look up the exact chipset on intel's website and see what other processors that chipset supports. Unless there is a hardcoded restriction in the BIOS (which I wouldn't put past lenovo) then it will work as long as it is one of those chips on the list. If my 7 seconds on google is accurate and if that computer actually has a replaceable cpu then see pic related for compatible processors.

I tried a new hard drive and a different GPU, it still hangs. I don't think I can replicate it and I'm on the latest bios update, i'm not using an UPS either.

I think it sometimes crashes after stress tests are over but I can't be sure since it also crashed in-game and when perfectly idle.

The northbridge heatsink is extremely hot to the touch but I don't know if this is a real issue since the only temp going above 50 during stress tests was the GPU

>multiple files consistently corrupted

If I copied 10 large files to the drive about 2 or 3 of them would be corrupted. That's been pretty consistent. small files I haven't seen getting corrupted at all.

I ran memtest yesterday also. It did a full check on my 16 GB of ram. wen't fine. Surface scan of the said USB drive said no errors detected.

Here's S.M.A.R.T. info

I've downloaded most of these files recently, and I mean like today and yesterday. I would download 10 files that were big copy them ALL over at the same time, run the hash check and 3 of 10 are corrupted. Since I still have the original downloads on my SSD I just copied the corrupted ones over and bam the full hash check checks out fine.

Can you try a different outlet and maybe a different power supply? Are you in an apartment or house?

Since it doesn't crash during the stress tests, I assume both the motherboard, cpu, and ram are all good. You said you tried a different hard drive, but did you try a different sata cable or different port on the motherboard?

Again, I think it's either storage or power related. That, or peripheral related since it only seems to crash when you are using it. Have you tried linux or something to see if that hangs too?

Also, your northbridge is working properly if it sears the flesh but isn't glowing. Anything else and you have problems.

Well it's entirely possible it's old age, anon.

Can you consistently get files to corrupt when you copy them? ie copy ten files and each time at least a couple get corrupt. Have you tried a different usb cable? It looks like it's a WD MyBook. You can crack that thing open and hook it up directly to sata ports on your mobo and try that way. I wouldn't try that unless it's out of warranty though. How old is it?
>>
>>52046682
I also switched the sata port on the motherboard when i changed the hard drive yes, I was going to give my power supply to a friend today that has basically the same build so he can use it for a few days and see if it's all good
>>
>>52046704
>>52046682
Also I forgot to note that whenever it crashes my speakers make a screech/thud noise.

CPUid HWmonitor and OCCD gave me really weird voltage readings but they've been like that since I got the thing so I assumed it's normal.

They were like off by quite alot (12v was 8 something, 3.3 was like 2.9 and -12v was something like -4 iirc ).
>>
>>52046682

It's about 3 or 4 years old. I've done HEAVY use of this thing though. I treat it like it's an internal.

What is the typical power cycle and hours count?

I guess I better replace my other ones because the power on counts for those are 18312 and 19193 respectively.

I have not tried a different cable yet, right now I'm trying to still determine if the issue is caused by just copying and since I need to check all these files anyway I'm going to do it as I redownload what I need.

there seem to be at least several new ad blocking addons/extensions, but ABP is still the most popular.

is there any real reason to change if you aren't bothered by unobtrusive ads (I can't even remember seeing any in the past couple years).

what are the best brands for an SSD, Crucial and Sandisk?
>>
>>52046682
Why do you think it's power related if it doesn't crash under stress ?
>>
>>52046704
Your next steps should be to replace the sata cable, run linux off of a flash drive and shit post for a few hours, install linux to the hard drive and shit post for a few hours, then test power supply.

>>52046732
nigga, wut?

Ok, clear your cmos and don't touch anything else and see if windows still hangs. It sounds like you should contact your mobo manufacturer.

>>52046739
I typically replace my drives after two to four years depending on how I use them. I hope they aren't your only location of data because with the type of drive that they are and age they might be ticking time bombs. Your older drive has been in use for 2 years, 2 months, and 9 days straight if that's power on hours or 6 years, 6 months, and 26 days if you only used it 8 hours a day (including weekends). If that's power cycles and you treat them as internals (meaning no unplug replug and they only power cycle when your computer does) then the math is really simple and you've been using it 52 years. Since that's impossible, I'll assume you unplug and replug multiple times a day and if it's anything like your other drive, I'll have to assume it is power cycled at least 3-5 times a day and thus 9-12 years old. It might be time to replace your drives. On the otherhand, they may be immortal since external enclosures can cook hard drives that are constantly in use.

In otherwords, the MTBF for hard drives in an every day environment is 3-5 years. It sounds like you got your moneys worth.

>>52046927
I don't mean PSU power, I mean mains power. I've seen shitty wiring cause issues, especially if it's an apartment or a really old house.
>>
>>52046961

You might have a point. I do let windows turn it off when it hasn't been used for a while (I can hear it turn back on ALL the time which means it got shut off at some point from nonuse) Should I leave it to always stay on? is on/off cycle worse than just staying on?

So I got a new ssd for christmas. Is it possible to unplug my hdd, plug in the ssd, install windows on it and then plug back the hdd with the ssd?

well the sata cable was replaced when i changed the HDD.
What am I supposed to tell the warranty guys if I don't know how to replicate the hang?

Also I didn't clear my cmos yet but I did restore factory settings to the bios, so it has the same stuff it did when I got it out of the box, should I still bother to do it even so?

work on your soft skills. Fake it 'till you make it. If you can't change your outward appearance, you're SOL since you won't be able to change what people think of you.

Take my advice with a grain of salt though, I'm just some random douchebag on the internet.

>>52046924
I've had a good experience with OCZ, Samsung, and Crucial. Kingston sucks though.

>>52046987
Are they all MyBooks? Because the problem one is a wd green drive which will park the heads after a little bit of inactivity. Not all of the greens do this though and I'm not sure on the specific model numbers that do. If you need the storage space that you get with the externals but are also using them like internals, I recommend just getting some internals and only using the externals for backup.

>>52047027
Ok, fair enough. I'd still try another power plug or power strip and the bootable linux. And as far as the warranty guys go, I'd tell them that you already replaced all other parts with known good replacements and the problem didn't go away therefore it must be the one part you didn't replace. You don't have to lie but you might not want to get too specific. If we can rule out power supply (both internal and external), since we already ruled out hard drive, sata cable and connection, and gpu then all that leaves is motherboard, cpu, and ram. If you have multiple sticks of ram, try just one stick or if you have any alternate whatsoever.

And yes, I'd still try resetting the CMOS. Since they will tell you to try that anyway if you try to RMA anything. Might as well be one step ahead, right?
