I hate Audacity's FFT.
You want to use a much higher resolution FFT. Increase the size into the thousands, tens of thousands.
Plot using a log scale.

Just got my pair of AKG K712.
Need a decent amp recommendation.
Price range around 100-200USD
>>
>>52007968
I'd assume your voice fundamental is the 80-110Hz stuff.

What could be causing that 11-12Hz rumble? If you are willing to, plot again with the Audacity log spectrogram. Use a bit of a lower bin count (4096 or 8192) with a high count.

>>
>>52008119
It is explained right there on the purchase page. IF you are getting the combo unit which is the amp and DAC in one it defaults to medium which is what they recommend.

Schiit stack would be the same thing but I dislike Schiit as a company so I don't recommend them.

use this foobar spectrum analyzer, it can go high and low as you want
>>
>>52008124
I said spectrogram so that you could use it for time/frequency analysis, not the frequency spectrum alone.
You may want to scale back the resolution to 8192 or so.

>>52008184
That analyzer is bad, and foobar doesn't work with other RTA VSTs too well IME.

It's not more accurate, it takes the discrete chunks from the FFT and bundles them up log scale, using musical notation as a reference.

>>52010312
listen to a note you know really well, and if that note sounds weird, you probably don't have a flat response
>>
>>52010312
Get a calibration mic and make a measurement rig
>>
>>52010312
Simple soundcard analyzer with headphone load attached for electronics. Electronics pass these well enough, not often a major issue.
As for the headphone itself, you would have to listen and just adjust it yourself. There are a lot of limitations with in-ear measurement gear, limited bandwidth of mic probes, poor SNR, unique target frequency function and so on.
It would be easier to measure and just make an inverse EQ, but it just isn't that simple.

Hey faggots

I was late organizing Christmas presents this year, so as of right now I my choices are to:

A:Wait until after new years and order a pair of Sennheiser HD 598

B:Order Sony MDR v6/7506 and receive them this weekend

I've been lurking and both have a great reputation here, but my mind has really been set on the HD 598's for a while. Are they really worth waiting until the holidays are over? I'll be using them as a PC headset and my music taste is quite bass heavy.

Secondary question, what exactly is the difference between the MDR v6 and 7506 and why are they always bundled together?

Thanks and go fuck yourself
>>
>>52012848
I think the biggest difference you should be looking at if you're comparing those two is if you want closed or open

if you don't mind it being open, I'd recommend getting the 598 just because they're open
get the black version to reduce the meme levels though
>>

>>52009330

>>52010312
Listen to logarithmic sine sweep tones from 20-20000Hz. Only the pitch should change while amplitude stays the same. If you hear a peak or a dip in the response, you apply a suitable parametric EQ filter at the center frequency of that resonance to nullify it. You can tighten the window of the sweeps in the more problematic areas. EQ APO is excellent for doing the EQ filters.
>>
>>52009426
If you can't afford the the SE535 buy the SE215. The SE215 are really fun and have a bass boost. Mid tier Shures hoenestly aren't worth the extra money.

In regards to the IE80 it's a bloated, muddy mess. If you like beats you'll love them.

Ethan Winer, the guy who actually knows his shit uses a 150$ pioneer like the one you linked. He claims it measures transparent and that most modern if not all amps(unless they are defective) are audibly transparent. I believe him because of the fact that he's been in the audio industry for decades and written books about the subject.

>>
Inherited a set of MDR-V600s. They sound great, but I am just being tricked by expecting them to or are they actually good headphones?
>>
>>52014270
Well it depends what you're looking for. AKG will make poorly recorded and compressed music show their weaknesses but it might get tiring after a while. The HD600 is more forgiving in that regard. From a price/performance view point the AKG wins but only because it's cheaper.
>>
not exactly headphone related, but you're the only general here about sound, so

>>
>>52014323

Why? Because of its analytical sound?

Short answer is no. Long answer you might be able to EQ the frequencies that make the speakers distort. Might also be vibrations in the plastic where the speakers are in which case you might be able to insulate it better.

Yeah, exactly. I have them and I don't complain but some people wish there was more ''fun'' to the sound.

as i said, if there were one simple reason it happened, it would be less prominent, and we would tell you how to fix it instead of having you buy a product
some possible reasons:
dac itself could be made incorrectly
poor em shielding
some random parts touching that shouldnt be
gpu/some other part with a lot of whine

Check if you need isolation though, there's no pont in gettin open-back for a more natural sound if there's noise where you live.

but anon, an eq doesn't allow you to set the earpads in the position to get the best sound quality, the K1000 are unmatched

Looking for iems with a detachable cable. BA drivers are a must. They shouldn't be genre-specific. So far my choice narrowed down to Sony xba-3, Westone W20 and audiotechnika ATH-IM03. AT seems like an obvious choice but maybe Westones pack some pleasant surprise despite having one less driver? And I don't trust Sony in general. What do you think?
>>
>>52016638
Stop listening to subjective reviews. And the guy sounds way too excited to sound unbiased. Sure the AKG's are good and the guy doesn't seem to be a blind retarded audiophile but seriously don't watch shit like that. Listen to the headphones yourself or read measurements.

>>52016829
sure, I know that. I can read measurements, but I like watching/reading reviews because they can tell something more about the instruments' separation or the sound details a headphone is able to produce.
>>
>>52016831

>>
>>52016589
No, instead you just get pinna reflections modulated by the distance from ear.

>>52016638
>transient intermodulation distortion
Not this shit again, didn't we get over this in the 70's and 80's? As for IMD, I think the Beats Studio did about the same as 701.
>third harmonic from valve amp
They produce more second order products, which I still don't buy as a subjective improvement.
>no TIM because class A
That's not what TIM is. TIM is otherwise known as slew distortion created by intense high frequency signaling. Class A is about being an inefficient space heater, the on/off switching for each wave cycle that class B performs to improve efficiency will introduce zero crossing distortion, otherwise known as crossover distortion.
>No bass boost, presence boost
It really does have a lot of midbass, but let's chalk that up to variance.
"Presence" is the rather infamous 2-2.5kHz peak on the K612/701/712/7XX models.

>>

>I'm just interested in what he says about the K702 sound
Learn to read measurements.
> "every sound is separate"
Doesn't mean anything. Sounds can sound separate even on cheap earbuds. It has a lot more to do with the recording than the headphones.
>>
>>52016877
The reason why you shouldn't watch or read subjective reviews is because people are fucking uneducated and don't know what they're taking about almost all of the time. Also they are biased as fuck.
If you want to hear a subjective review usually every review with measurements has a paragraph or two about subjective impressions. At least you can somewhat trust these guys to know what they're talking about.

Yes, I just hold the view that the recording is more important than frequency response when it comes to separation and localization. Not really worth arguing about something that can't be proven anyway.
He said the headphones have good separation. Good for him. It's a subjective impression which isn't worth anything.

Why the BAs?
XBA-3 is mediocre.
I don't know too many particulars about the IM03.
IM02 is like a better balanced version of Westone W20. It's also much bulkier.

how to calculate how much to turn down the preamp of a parametric eq when turning frequencies up? you would need to know the details of your entire chain to do it mathematically right?
>>
>>52017167
You look at the graphical representation of the EQ and start counting.
>>
>>52017000
MDR v6, MDR-7506 and MDR cd900st are lineup that made by Sony Music and dedicated for studio production. As for the other MDR are created by Sony for consumer use, as you will see many variant of its product have the wireless version of it. For example, MDR-1A have bluetooth version of it in MDR-1ABT.

Open maybe better, but you'll want something that might be little forgiving for listening to that. I've heard too many times where the voice actor lips actually touching the mics. It feels really weird to me.

Anybody here electronics engineer tier? My Superlux Evo broke when the left earphone went out, the whole wiggly wire scenario. I popped them open and resoldered the connectors from the jack to the two metal posts that carry the signal to the opposite earphone, which act as an intermediary between the headphone jack and the mainboard. Much to my dismay, when I wiggled the connections the cord came out of the hole where the mainboard is, so I did some more disassembling and came upon the left side of the picture. The right earphone was wired to (1), presumable, since that's what didn't pop out so easily. Now, I have no fucking idea where the other one popped out of, but common sense says (2) and that's where I resoldered it to.

Now I'm getting sound out of both earphones, but my left-surround comes out of both sides. My right surround works and only come out of the right. Can't provide pictures because I already closed them all up.

The other diagram that I professionally sketched up are the wires, if I pop it open and redo the soldering I won't have enough length to recut the current wires which are thin, braided ones like A. I have other wired, but they're just shielding around a solid metal cylinder like B, ill that make a difference?
