Why is my 24-port switch slower than my router? They're both rated @ ~100Mbps max, or so.
However, I have shitty internet here (~10Mbps), so, the rating doesn't matter anyways, right?
The only reason we even have a switch is because when we had our house built, we had ethernet ports wired in nearly every room, and it seemed...cumbersome, to just have a 24-port router. Those are ridiculously expensive iirc. So I bought a switch and plugged everything in downstairs. I didn't really notice the "slowness".
About a month ago, our internet died (it was the ISP's fault) and my family thought it may have been the switch, since there was no reply from our ISP; they plugged in a router and attached four important ethernet cables from around the house into the router. Apparently, there was a very noticeable difference in speed.
When I came home for fall break, I attached everything back to the switch, and everything was working fine. However, my brother said that it "got shitty again"; for example, he could normally watch videos on YouTube in 720/1080p nearly fine, but now shit barely worked even at 144/240p.
I'm stumped, and google is barely helping. I'd like to put the switch to use, and if it's actually just defective or something, could anyone recommend a good price/performance 24-port switch?

I feel like perhaps my gpu idles at too low a speed. Doing simple things like playing a snes game or just dragging windows around is pretty damn choppy at times but running games at full settings is a smooth 60fps everytime. I'm running a 280x.

Transferring files from PC to an android phone used to be as simple as plugging it in to a USB slot and copying with windows explorer, as you would with a memory stick. But when I try it now, phones no longer show up as a storage drive in my computer, they show up as a fucking phone device and if I try to copy a large file like a movie across, I get some bullshit error.
Are phones purposely crippled to make copying files a pain in the ass, or is there something wrong with my setup? How do I copy files to my phone without having to use some overly complicated file transfer/sync app?
