It's degenerate not holding christmas even with your girlfriend/wife and family.
I'm thinking about a oscilloscope, the Rigol DS1054Z to be exact.
Any better ideas? Also thought about a 3D printer, but I would have to tell my parents that they should buy a specific assembly kit, while it's maybe better to get the parts individually. I don't know if these Chinese Prusa i3 kits are any good.

They're as good as you can put them together honestly. At least, if you compared that to buying the same cheap arduino and RAMPS boards. The cheap boards are a crap shoot, but the rest of the parts are hard to fuck up.
