Can someone ID that field recorder she's holding? It's not a Tascam, I don't think. A couple years back on /a/ this picture--or one a lot like it--was posted, and it was mentioned that audio nerds in Japan favor these PCM recorders for whatever reason but then I forgot which model was the popular one and it's been bugging me ever since.

Sony PCM D-100. It was popular as DAP because of its "analogue" sound. Well deserved reputation as same as Sony mdr-cd900st, I think.

I'd think twice to buy it even its priced at $200. Its just too bulky, with gramps player ergonomics. And while its not perfect copy, good cans can replicate the sound with some help from EQ.

I tried asking last night but nobody seems to know much about this pair of headphones
Anyone got any experience with the HD 7 DJ?
I currently have a pair of K550's but would like an alternative pair of closed headphones for street listening and these seem to be fine with a strong bass which is what I'm looking for. Also fold for easier transportation.
Reviews honestly feel like ads and the head-fi thread is full of people looking for confirmation bias.
I can get them for 200$ from a local shop so instant pickup and no shipping, plus I get to support local businesses. I seriously thought no stores in Mexico carried any headphones above 100$ except for Beats.
So thoughts on these things?

I just started using my headphones + amp with my mobile and I've noticed the sound quality I get when using them with my phone is worse than other devices. The most noticeable aspect of this is a sort of horrible muddy vibration that kicks in during heavy base that I don't get when using these same headphones/amp with my PC or whatever.

I'm using a FiiO E17 connected to a G4 using an aux cable. Anyone have any ideas what's going on here?

The first question you should ask yourself is whether your headphones do need an amp. Plugging a heapdhone into an amp doesn't automatically makr them sound better under any circumstance.

Hey /hpg/, answer my non-headphone related question.
My parents living room has a fairly new 50-something samsung TV and they have been using the integrated speakers for a while but I can't help but look at the four speakers in the corners of the room every time I sit in it (all passives two big ones in the front and two small ones in the back) and remembering how cool it was when I was a kid watching movies with them running.
Now from what I have understood the whole amp-receiver stack broke and is now gone but the speakers still sit there up high on their stands, unused for more than a decade now.
What's the cheapest way possible for me to hook them up to the TV and drive them that will make them sound better than the Samsung integrated speakers?

I just looked in the basement and found the old stack that powered the whole thing, this is the back of the receiver but there's also the CD player, tuner, graphic equalizer and cassette deck even though I think the last one is broken.

Sorry for the spoonfeeding but I'm a complete spastic on anything audio other than headphones with simple dacs and amps.

This is the back of the amp unit and it seems to power up, do I also need the rest of the stack in order to hook it up with the TV?
>>
>>51900730
This. Women don't care about audio quality anyways
>>
>>51902832
I've got to say this is quite an unusual amplifier/receiver.
Are those speakers in the back of your room the original ones that came with this? If so all you need to do is wire them up where it says on the back. And no, you don't need the other stuff to make it work. I think if you just grab an RCA cable, plug it to the TV and connect it to ''AUDIO - Video1/DAT - IN'' and it should just work.

>If they are so much better than expensive modern headphones
They're not. Lambdas are nice headphones though.
>and only a fraction of the price, why don't I see more of them?
A combination of lousy distribution, poor marketing, poor company health, and general exotica and impracticality.
>>
>>51904045
Well despite all that would you say they are the best headphones available for under 500?
>>
>>51904069
Lambdas? I wouldn't use estats, too impractical for me and my use case. Plenty of people like them otherwise.
I would hesitate to say best, especially since EQ is such a huge part of sound "quality", but they have many worthwhile traits to them. A headphone worth considering. Start with the 207 if you can. Or don't, Lambdas and 009 fall into a similar general profile.

What do u guys think of Shure SE215? I want a pair of IEM for under 100 and not every IEM sits good in my ears and thats why i want to get this kind of IEM.
>>
>>51905188
They are very good
>>
>>51905188
It sits really nice in your ear and is comfortable when you get a nice fit but the bass is boomy as fuck. Unless you're into that, it just overpowers the other frequencies.

I thought it was pretty good not amazing but better than what hes used to probably

Comfort is important, I'll likely be using them for long periods of time
>Preferred music
Mostly video game music. I have basically no knowledge of genres, but a friend said my tastes might be EDM, Trance, DnB. I really don't know.
>Past headphones
Razer Megalodon.
This should be a perfect example of just how little I know, and I do feel bad for buying them.
They were probably fucking shit quality wise, but they were comfortable and worked for the most part.

I would say I'm interested in getting a headset, but from what I hear, headsets are expensive and crap, and getting headphones and a mic is cheaper and better.
The basic idea is that my current headset is finally fucking up, and I figured if I'm going to replace it, I might as well replace it with something good.
So yeah, I'm looking for a reasonably priced pair of headphones that are decent quality, comfortable, and should last for a good while with care.

Everything I've seen points to the II having very minor improvements, they mostly just did the revision so they could sell it with an awful USB dongle for emulated surround sound, which is a total gimmick.

Just get the first model if you can.

No you piss off, he's going to be using it for gaming, where it's only actually useful. Stereo sound is not going to be worsened by it.

Almost any IEMs can be worn around the ear, they don't need to have a specific shape.

SE215's are far from flat and a pretty bad value at 100$.

I have a problem the DT770's original ear pads are too small and my ear is constantly rubbing the inner lining of the pads as well as the actual padding around the driver.

Im looking for replacement ear pads that will keep my ear off the padding stuff near the driver but also wont irritate the tips of my ears.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps you are correct. At the same time though, I find it somewhat hard to believe that there's really nothing worthwhile as an upgrade below $300. I'll keep what you said in mind though, regardless.
>>
>>51907223
Yeah, they sound pretty good for my listening preference. I'll check out the re400s
>>
>>51907316
No I meant that re400 had a shit build.
SE215 has a decent build but is pretty bass heavy.
IM50 is cheaper, somewhat less bass heavy, and also larger.
>>
>>51907297
>Perhaps you are correct. At the same time though, I find it somewhat hard to believe that there's really nothing worthwhile as an upgrade below $300. I'll keep what you said in mind though, regardless.
no i mean yeah, theres upgrades, but considering you that you would just be -200 dollars farther away from an even better upgrade that would be a truly awesome experience ( i personally find that around 300 dollars is where headphones start getting really amazing, up to about maybe 450 or 500 where the diminishing returns get ridiculous).

so what im saying is not only that the upgrade wouldnt be worthy, but that youre so close to a 300 dollar headphone at the same time... if you had a 50 dollar headphone, and wanted 100, it would be different. just save up, youll be glad. why not get some very good headphones and use them for years?
>>
>>51907399
Well, for the sake of discussion then, do you have any recommendations for the $300 range? I can probably scrape that up within a reasonable amount of time if I'm careful, I just am generally wary of spending such a large amount at once.

Budget is $50, in the US, looking for a full headset, probably better to aim for closed because my neighbor is a jackass who screams around like a jackass with loud engines and that crap, basic comfort required for prolonged use, no idea what tonal balance is, and they'll be used for pretty much everything. Last was a Creative Fatality headset which ended up with the wires breaking, so detachable cables are a big plus. Been using a pair of earbuds that caused tinnitus so I've since stopped using them.

What's my best bet?

>>
>>51900638
you're probably just amplifying noise or something that was introduced by the phone amp. try it with just the phone and see if you get the same thing.

>>51900767
v6/7506 all the way

>>51904780
yes, but that usually comes from avoiding/reducing noise that might have been introduced from a shitty source. as for actually enhancing the sound of a headphone, not really. there are some headphones that have impedance curves where you can argue an amp would be better suited to them vs another, but that's really a matter of avoiding a bad amp than getting some magical tube shit or similar for that headphone only. a magni or 02 will be the only amp you will need for everything but eletrostats, and for 90% of planars or dynamics it will be overkill anyways. the number of headphones that require significantly powerful amping is small.

>>51907297
>>51907115
>>51907093
>>51907031
if you actually want "flat" get the msr7 or hd600 though both are a bit over your budget.
>>
>>51906724
The issue is that I'm looking for some "outside" headphones that have a strong bass. I live in a hot area, equivalent to somewhere like California, Nevada or Texas and the metal headband on my K550's gets unbearably hot after walking around the sun for 15+mins and also make my ears sweat a lot. I don't actually feel the head in my head since the bottom part does a really nice job at isolating the top, but still too hot to the touch.
Any other headphones I should look into if these aren't worth the 200$? Limited availability and expensive prices, but I'll try to find anything suggested.

There are only two sub-300$ heapdhones which should be considered: one is Fidelio X2, the other is AKG K702. They're super comfy, they are as solid as tanks, they've got a very entertaining V-shaped signature but they're over all very balanced, thus being great for any activity requiring a headphone (movie watching, gaming, music...). Also they're one of the few open headphone having impactful and detailed bass.
