When will ARM or that Russian company make a desktop viable chip?
I'm tired of choosing between AMD and Intel.

Never because ARM is shit. Even if they made a 6GHz chip, software support would be shit.

Arm software support under Linux is great.
Even more with meme OS's like android.

Nobody gives a shit about linux.

My mom does

But ARM software is shit compared to x86 software.
In addition ARM chips are also less powerful. You would need like a 32 core ARM chip at 4 GHz just to get the same performance as a desktop i7. To compound this problem most software cannot use more than 2-4 threads efficiently.

OSfirsttimer pls go

Whoops

@u desu senpai
>>51709064
He's right though. arm software is fucking shit.
>>51708675
Intel is making their chips more efficient faster than ARM is making theirs more powerful. Intel's dream of an x86 phone could conceivably come true in another five years.

The zenfone 2 is already here senpai
>the software meme
Can you not go to Facebook, watch YouTube or browse 4chan on ARM or something?
Alternative architectures are dead anon.
No one cares about:
Itanium
Mips
Power
Sparc
It's all dead. Who needs competition or innovation anyway? Just keep making the same old shit faster.
wasn't VIA making a x86-ARM hybrid?
>intel
>q6600s from 2007 still going strong
>arm SOCs
>came from piece of shit sheevaplugs released in 2008, now power low/medium end laptops with decent performance
ARM is going to eclipse x86 in less than 5 years. Count on it.

I'm literally on a zenfone 2 right now. it's cheap and outperforms any other phones in this price range with these specs.
running cyanogenmod.
guy at radioshack looked at me like I was a liar.

I blame the jews (literally).
>>51709797
Have you been able to run Win 7/win xp on a virtual machine yet?

>tfw just 200 bucks on amazon
Man I wish I wasn't so poor.
>>51708787
:^)
>>51709821
ha I haven't tried... I assume it could do it though. I have used remote desktop with it as well as ssh'ing into servers - pain in the ass with on-screen keyboard, but it's a fucking phone what do you expect.
>>51709948
You should try it some day, mainly see if you can run a VM of Win XP as it requires a smaller storage space (just ~5GB for OS partition) and just 500MB of RAM.
The zenfone 2 has a x86 chip so the VM shouldn't run too slow.

>When will ARM make a desktop viable chip?
The higher end ARM chips around would already make a perfectly usable desktop (given a decent cooler).
The issue isn't a lack of CPUs, it's a lack of manufactures doing anything with those CPUS.
