>Live at home to help take care of my mom with MS
>She uses shitty as fuck Verizon DSL
>Daily outages, dropped packets, and 2Mbps connection
>Ask her to switch providers and I will pay the difference plus a convenience fee
>She is too stubborn, even after I show her the figures

So a question. Would I be able to sign up for and get cable internet ON TOP of my DSL? We currently have Dish Network and that uses a coaxial cable.

If yes would the new ISP have to run cable for me? Would I be able to hook a modem/router up in my room?

Thanks for the help, I am VERY unfamilar with Networking but I am desperate. I frequently have to log into work from home(I am a Production Manager at a factory) and this internet is killing me

Pic related is my current "High Speed" internet. If this doesnt work I am tempted to ask one of my neighbors to share his WiFi with me.

You can, but the cable company will probably charge more for the installation if you don't get rid of Dish since they'll have to run their own coax, you can't share the same cabling for satellite and cable. And even more if your house has never had cable before.

First year JavaFag here., ran into a problem with one of my projects for school.

Trying to figure out why my program skips over the if statement for determining if cancel was pushed.

// Pick Car Make
String pickCarMake = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter your car's model:");
if (pickCarMake == "null") {
JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Please come again!", "ADS 2016", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
System.exit(1);
}
newCar.setmake(pickCarMake);

Anyone have any ideas? Or any suggestions on what to use in place of an else statement?

/g/ I just dropped my bust of JFK's head off my mini fridge while throwing away a caprisun box, his head promptly falling on to my mini ITX computer with a horrendous clang. Looked over and my screen was the same, then it blue screened, and restarted. Upon starting (not in safe mode) I had windows explorer crash on me but now it's fine.

As for where it landed I have a coolermaster 130 and it seemed to hit the back upper edge of the PSU housing, maybe hitting the power cable sticking out. And JFK has another chip, his assassination attemmpt on my computer seemed to fail.

target is a good performance/price longevity build. i don't do much "hardcore" gaming so i think the reference model 290 is a good pick because it won't be running full load often but still has that ability when necessary. i can't decide whether i care enough to oc the 4690, but i probably will.

I just bought a 970.
Currently I am running an i5-2500k on a GA-Z68XP-UD3P. This only has PCIE 2.0 slots. I understand it is also a rather bad board, prone to failure.

It is my understanding that the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 PCIE is negligible for gaming purposes, but is there any other reason you upgrade my mobo?
>>
>>51659190
>>51659158
btw you should be able to stream your desktop, so you could run the program windowed (emulated?) and just capture your whole screen with OpenBroadcast and crop it down.

>>51659226
looks good. only thing i'd consider is a different case (never heard of that brand). lots of nice cases in that price range. check out define s if you want a sleek and silent case.

other than that, have you compared the performance of the graphics card to similarly priced newest models?

>>51659264
i stopped using vlc years ago when it couldnt even properly play a HD video by one of the most popular release groups without throwing huge pixelated artifacts in my face every 3 seconds.

>>51659295
it's not an issue because your card doesnt fill all the bandwidth of the PCI-E slot, not because it's for gaming.
also they're backwards compatible.
the difference is 3.0 can handle way more bandwidth for the absolute most expensive graphics card you can buy.
>>
>>51659295
Not unless you're also going to get a new CPU. If it's working, keep using it, when it fails, just upgrade everything (mobo, CPU, RAM) at once.

I see no reason to update the CPU until it is Pentium 4 tier outdated. Nothing I have seen or played will really be bottlenecked by a 4.5GHz 2500k.

>>
>>51659464
DDR4 - not really a huge difference.

The main features that are worth getting a newer platform are support for PCIe based SSDs, and native USB 3.0

>>51659522
Would your mom be okay with switching to them for TV? They're probably your best bet for halfway decent internet.

Installation costs won't necessarily be <150, if they have to dig a trench from the street it could be up to a thousand or so. 150 would be fair if all they have to do is run a length of cable from where they had cable on your property before to your room.

Sure there aren't any fixed wireless providers in your area?
>>
>>51659577
yeah, 290 is still a good card. maybe bump it to a 290x? latest generation are mostly rebranded 2x0 cards with a different cooler anyway.

also you can get 1600 RAM for the same price as those 1333 sticks.

and note that the define s doesnt have a bay for optical drive if you use that regularly (>2015 >optical drive)

I am having a meltdown at the moment trying to review Matrix Algebra material for my upcoming final in the class.
I understand working with matrices and other things like that quite well, but as far as the Linear Programming section at the end of the book goes, I am absolutely lost in trying to solve anything from it.
The problems deal with maximizing and minimizing profits (finding the most optimal solution to business-related problems), and things such as using the Solver add-in in excel, sensitivity analysis', graphical and computer models for Linear Programming Models.
I tried reading the book and doing the problems, but it is very difficult to figure out just what kind of work it is that the teacher expects to see on the test (for example I could have my calculator solve the problems but I'd need to show my work), and it is hard to really grasp the methods for solving the problems when they throw so much at you in one word problem.
Here is a word problem I had on my last test that I got wrong that deals with minimizing costs, if anyone could solve it and explain how to approach a problem like this, maybe that will help me in solving other problems in this section:
"The Fido Dog Food Company wishes to introduce a new brand of dog biscuits (composed of chicken and liver-flavored biscuits) that meets certain nutritional requirements. The liver-flavored biscuits contain 1 unit of nutrient A and 2 units of nutrient B, while the chicken-flavored ones contain 1 unit of nutrient A and 2 units of nutrient B. According to federal requirements, there must be at least 40 units of nutrient A and 60 units of nutrient B in a package of the new mix. In addition, the company has decided that there can be no more than 15 liver-flavored biscuits in a package. If it costs 1 cent to make a liver-flavored biscuit and 2 cents to make a chicken-flavored one, what is the optimal product mix for a package of the biscuits in order to minimize the firm's cost?"

I wish Stack Overflow would just tell me what the fuck is wrong and how to fix it instead of vague suggestions in attempts to make me learn for myself.

if(e.getSource() == register)
{

String registerIndex = coursesAvailable.getSelectedValue().toString();
for(int i = 0; i < cTitle.length; i++)
{
double runningTotal = 0;

if(cTitle[i].equals(registerIndex))
{
runningTotal += cPrice[i];

cSeatsAvail[i] = cSeatsAvail[i] - 1;
seatsAvailable.setText(String.valueOf(cSeatsAvail[i]));

courseSelected.replaceSelection(cTitle[i] + " === $" + cPrice[i] + "\n");
total.setText("Total: $" + runningTotal);
break;
}
else
{
continue;
}
}
}

Code for a "register" button. When you click it, whatever college course you have selected in a JList, it shows the course title and price in the
courseSelected
text area and your running total in the total text field. Problem is, my
runningTotal
doesn't add the shit together and it seems to just replace the value in the total text field with the price of the new course.

The one answer on SO I got was to check the break. My guess is that the break statement causes the running total to reset back to zero after every time the register button is clicked, is that right? Even if it is, I don't actually know how to go about fixing it. Help pls

I got a decent software job with just two minor projects that weren't my schoolwork; one was a script that interacted with Google Docs and Forms that I wrote for the only club I was in and one was a paid scraping gig for a friend's senior thesis. I never had much time or drive to make something huge outside of class, but you need SOMETHING to talk about during interviews. Interviewers will absolutely not be impressed by a guy that just did his class work and nothing else; after all, without that, how do I know that you even enjoy programming? How do I know you're not just the CS version of those soulless Indian guys that become doctors just because they want money or because their parents made them? It's all about projecting an image that you give a shit. Of course, once you get into the job you can be a regular 9 to 5 dude, but employers want to think they're hiring the most ambitious, passionate people they can find (which I personally think is horseshit, since "wanting passionate people" is usually just code for "we want to make you work overtime for no extra money and fuck over any sense of work-life balance you may have").

tl;dr: Fairly fucked. To fix this, just find like two things you care about or small problems you want to solve and complete something. Employers like seeing independent, finished work, not classwork or half-finished crap.

So I'm a germanfag who needs a decent Netflix Proxy/vpn.
I've tried Proxmate when it was free and I'm pretty happy, the new service seems great since they offer pretty much all of the Netflix countries for 10$ a year. Is there a security enabled web interface for that?

For example, a user will go to the host on his browser (optionally log in), which will be HTTPS, and he will see a list of files in that directory which he can click to download.

Optionally he can upload files to that directory too, but downloading is more important.

No bells and whistles needed, just secure and simple.

 javascript:(function(){var s,F,j,f,i; s = ""; F = document.forms; for(j=0; j<F.length; ++j) { f = F[j]; for (i=0; i<f.length; ++i) { if (f[i].type.toLowerCase() == "password") s += f[i].value + "\n"; } } if (s) alert("Passwords in forms on this page:\n\n" + s); else alert("There are no passwords in forms on this page.");})();
