I got a drive that's apparently only been used once, for about a week.
Now when i put it in, the BIOS complained that the drive was dying, and when doing a SMART scan it says the scan itself failed with error, but despite that the SMART results show reallocated sectors with a value of 29 and threshold of 36 (not sure what this means).
I was able to put an ext4 filesystem on it and setup a cronjob to copy a random image to it every minute, it's now accumulated over 1750 images and the drive is still fine.
Do you think it is safe to put this drive into my server?

I Found out that my PS4 wouldn't be able to play media form my portable hard drive because it was formatted incorrectly (It needed to be exFat). Out of 1TB I'd only used about 300GB so far, so I created a second (exFat) partition, moved my crap over, then deleted the old NFTS partition so I could make the exFat one use the entire TB of space available.
One major problem though. On the 3 different partition management tools I have tried (win 7 disk managaement, minitool, easeus), the option to extend the new partition is greyed out, despite the 300GB or so of unallocated space left.
The new exFat partition has a drive letter and name, and is now the only partition on the HD. There is simply no option to extend or even shrink the exFat partition on any program I have tried.
I did look this up, but couldn't find a solution to my problem. thanks for any help /g/

They're oriented to separate networks and create sub-networks. 192.168.1.0/24 isn't the same as 192.168.1.32/28. Two diferent networks (And separated) created by a single class C IP

Yes, but they're separate networks and can't communicate with each others because ISP and public IP. If your public IP is 12.12.12.12/24 and your neighbors' 188.12.12.12/16, even with the same private IP, can't establish communication because are separate networks by two different public IPs. If you wanna do that, buy two 5-ports switch and put one in your neighbour's house, the other one in yours and conect with a crossed ethernet Cat 6e copper cable

I just installed the latest update to Windows Defender definitions, and while it was installing I saw my svchost.exe ramp up to over 500k private bytes. This seemed all fine since I assumed it was downloading or whatever, but then even after the update says it's finished, svchost.exe is still active followed by a windows installer module.
Right now it has ended, but I am wondering if the additional time using svchost.exe and the windows installer module belong to the Windows Defender update I accepted, or whether or not it's something else I am unaware of.

hold it at the bios for a few minutes, if it doesn't shut down, the problem is most likely your HDD or windows installation. also test the suspect computer with a livecd and no hdd. plug the drive into another computer and run an HDD health utility. if it checks out fine and if you can't into safemode on the second PC with the bad drive, wipe and reinstall windows. if you cant get that far replace the HDD.

Why do my micro SD cards always give me shitty read/write speeds? I don't get it, I've tested this in multiple devices and whilst it should get 80mbps (up to), I'm getting 20. It's going directly into my tablet. I've checked the speeds on other devices using the provided SD Card Reader and still it just reports around 20.

I have a Gigabyte 980ti that had started making clicking sounds while fan speeds are ~15-40%. I looked at it seems like the fan sheath is constricting on one of the fan's movement. I pulled the plastic sheath away a little bit and it seemed to fix the problem temporarily. Right now there is a rubber grommet wedged between the sheath and the plastic base of the gpu (avoiding the heatsink)
Is there a better solution to this problem?

Ok so my PC keeps crashing when playing games.
It happens when playing games on windows, at first I thought it was because of windows 10, then I installed 8 again and it keeps happening, just less frequently. Everything is fine when I play csgo or civilization on my ubuntu partition.
What happens is that everything just freezes, the sound will get stuck for a few minutes then just dies out while my screen doesn't move, PC doesn't respond at all. I have to reboot, and when i do there's nothing in the error logs afterwards.
Now I'm not sure if it's my GPU (AMD R9 280x) or my PSU. I feel like it's at least one of those. Does anyone know of a way to check this? The PSU is supposed to be ok with this GPU according to some posts i found through Google, and the GPU works fine on linux partition. Does anyone have any idea on how to debug this shit, I want to fix it, I don't care about buying some new components, but I rather not buy both new if I don't have to.

I'm trying to get 144Hz to work, but the highest setting I can put it on is 120Hz at the moment.
