Aesthetically pleasing trash. The keyboard is gonna be uncomfortable as shit unless you have sub manlet hands, and no doubt its gonna be top heavy as fuck

That deal was so good I bought one, and I already have a Nexus 6.

Even at the $260 mark you can resell that shit easily for $350 used, earning you $90 profit.

Too big for me. Last phone I got was an iPhone 5S and I want something marginally larger at most from my new phone. I really digging the 5X if B&H would just let me check out!!! It's also shady as fuck they're not discounting the 32GB black model

>>
>>51576620
>How many times has it bent yet?
Funny. It's feels completely solid, and I haven't heard of anyone that have actually had it bent in normal use. Of fucking course it will bent if you try to bend it.

>Have you felt buyers remorse yet, Nexusfag?
It's my first Nexus device, and I'm by no means a android fanboy. In fact, if WP could get their ecosystem going I would change today.
Buyers remorse? I certainly had that with my last phone, the Oneplus One; this one? not so much, it's certainly the best Android experience I have tried so far.
>>

My T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus is starting to show it's age, and I just want a rootable phone with a big screen for internet browsing and emulating on Verizon (my dad gets free Verizon service from his job, so it'd be cheaper to get added to that).
Is the Note 3 still good? Seems to be rootable, has a decent cpu/gpu, a nice 5.7 inch screen, a decent removable battery, and a microSD slot, so I was thinkin of going with that.
>>
>>51576753
The OPX looks nice but some people are having problems with the microsd and idk what else. The first batch of devices is more likely to have problems. The Xiaomi instead has better specs if i recall correctly, it's cheaper but i heard its touchscreen is not so much responsive but i might be wrong.

Hey guys, I have a HTC Droid DNA that is finally crapping out on me after a good 2 years of solid use(It keep restarting for no reason, and when I try to factory reset the phone, nothing happens. Also it's laggy as fuck).

I'm up for an upgrade with verizon and I really have no idea what I should be looking for. I mostly browse the web and watch youtube on my phone, so I would like something powerful that doesn't lag, something smooth as butter.

I love my HTC droid DNA and I was looking at the HTC One M9 but I would like to know what other options are out there, and what you guys would recommend? I just want a fast, powerful, smooth lag-free smartphone that I can flawlessly watch youtube, maybe play some games, and browse the web with.

Thanks for any advice you guys can give me, in the mean time I'll look at OP's post for more information.
>>
>>51576874
Don't do an upgrade with verizon. You end up paying more for your line access fee if you do it that way.

If you don't have an unlimited plan, move to Verizon's new plans, and get an unlocked phone from somewhere else. DOn't support Verizon's locked down bloated shit.

Moto X Pure, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 5x are all choices.
>>
Is 370€ (I'm italian) too much for a BB Classic?
>>
>>51576874
Nexus 5X for $300 at Amazon, Google, and Best Buy right now. Sales tax in my state is killing me though so I'm holding out for B&H's listing.
>>
>>51576924

The thing is I'm under my father family plan so I'm not sure if I would be able to get an unlocked phone. I'm not well versed in what our plan entails as my dad is the one that handles it. I tend not to question it since my dad is kind enough to pay for my phone bill.

The nexus 6 looks really cool, I'll have to check it out. verizon does carry them so I think I should be ok.
>>
>>51576800
okay, thanks for your reply
>>
>>51576983
You're able to get an unlocked phone. Just make sure it has the bands to work with Verizon's network. Just means you're buying the phone from someone other then Verizon and you're paying full price not getting any carrier discounts to lock you in like a contract or payment plan

/g/ doesn't know everything though so if you get a discount buy getting a phone through Verizon and that's what you wanna do go on.
>>
>>51576983
Unlocked is no problem. You can get SIM cards for them, it's not an issue.

However, your plan is gonna be weird for sure. You'll need to talk to him and show him the new plans. He will likely save a lot of money - my father in law is after I showed him the new plans.

Don't get a verizon branded phone if you can avoid it.

Can you expand on what you're talking about? Are you talking about the new combined family data plans? I'm also on a family plan and we used to get 2GB a piece and while my mom used nothing me and my brother were always pushing it so we switched to the lowest combined family data plan and it's been perfect since only me and my brother use the data.

It is, but there also is a Nexus 6 you can get from a verizon store, or used to that had verizon crap on it potentially.

Amazon has it for 349 right now, might go down to 199 on monday after midnight
>>
>>51577153

>>
>>51577176

>>
>>51577173

>>
>>51577176
No, they bought them in 2011 then sold them
>>
>>51577211
349 is pricy for you? WTF? What are you expecting to get ?
>>
>>51577245

Well yes that is pricey for me. See I was under the impression that you could still get a decent phone for cheap when signing up for a two year contract. That's how I got my HTC droid DNA for 50 bucks at best buy. I guess that isn't the case anymore? I honestly have no idea.
>>

>>
>>51577155

>>
>>51577298
You end up paying double for your line access charge if you do that stupid 2 year contract.

It comes out to something like 20 dollars a month more for the 2 year contract, so the only way you come out ahead is if the phone price is really fucking low, and then you're stuck with a verizon bloatware locked down device.
>>
>>51577302

I just bought a super shitty knockoff chinese ebay smartphone with android from a company called XGODY for like £50

i have never used a smartphone before in my life, someone please tell me there is a way to change the browser theme away from this horrible yellow stripe gash
>>
>>51577340

So you would recommend I just save up to buy an unlocked phone and activate it with verizon? I didn't even realize it but you're right when I got my DNA I had to delete a whole bunch of verizon bullshit that I would never use.
>>
>>51577374
I bought mine through a resale so I didn't get to pick the colors (it's black with gray accents, so it's fine) but if I could have picked I probably would've gone with a black phone and blue accents. I don't really like very vibrant phones, and I think the black and metallic blue combination adds a really subtle but pretty effect to it.
>>
>>51577410
Not him, but he's right. It's cheaper to buy a phone off contract and then bring it to Verizon for activation. Especially if you plan on keeping the phone for 3 or more years.

The warranties do cover shit, mostly shit that isn't your fucking fault. Shit happens. It's useful.

Are you a teenager? Not owned many phones? I've owned smartphones going back 12 years or something now. I've had to use the first year warranty at least three times. It's also useful to get a new phone before the warranty is up by saying "something" is wrong with it.

I also used a Bold 9900 and I loved everything about ir. I was forced to move to a S4 because it was a birthday present. I miss my BB experience though, then I'd love to come back to the Classic. I don't how much it should be though...

it comes down to not having software which Motorola specifically designed for the camera running on whatever ROM you're using. This results in shitty pictures.

There's just something about it that you won't get on any other phone

Shame about the constant freezing, lagging, battery pulls, software issues, etc

I seldomly had those issues and honestly I forgot about them really easily considering the benefits of the physical keyboard and the amazing native apps of BB

Sup everyone? I've got a quick question because I couldn't figure this out on my own. I'm currently ricing my phone and I found a really nice icon pack, but I want to change the color of the icons from white to red. I tried looking through the files on my phone with a file explorer but I couldn't find any of the icons anywhere.

Anyone know an easy way for me to download the icons? All I need to do is load them in photoshop and apply a red filter to them, or change the hue so they're red, but I can't figure out where to get the icon files from.
>>
>>51579141
Figure it out yourself retard
>>
>>51579166
Thanks for the answer anon. Didn't realize asking about icons would trigger you.
>>
>>51579185
Problem is this is pretty easy to google man...
>>
>>51579185
All you have to do is figure out where the icon pack is installed, which you can do numerous ways. Then download them to your computer. I'm pretty sure you need root to access system files though
>>
>>51579222
>I'm pretty sure you need root to access system files though
Can't adb "spoof" root and get read access to system files?
Obviously you won't be writing to it but it should be enough to pull a few files.

That's true, adb should be able to pull anything from the device.

My N900 is basically kaputt since the USB was off and I tried to fix it and fucked up the paths on the board. So I need a new phone.

Is Jolla worth it? It's 200 Euro currently. Should I wait for the next phone from that company?
Otherwise, if I'm to go with an Android-based phone, what's a good one for a tinkerer? Would be good if I could install other OSes and a Qwerty keyboard would be super.

what advantages are there to rooting your phone?
>>
>>51580180
Can install Xposed which allows you insane control over your device

Can install adaway, add blocker for ads in apps

Can prevent carrier updates that could bork your phone

Can debloat shit

Lot more than that...

Imagine that you don't have admin access on your computer, then suddenly you have it. That's what root is.

The firefox phones are not that good, but after taking their cheap price into account they are definitely worth it. Go look up firefox OS for a feel of how it is.

Probably if you treat it well. I've never had to use one but I've heard nothing but good things about the e and g phones, even though they're cheap as hell.
>>

>>

How would you ruin it? That makes no sense.
>>
>>51581079
There is literally no way you can ruin a phone by rooting it. I don't know where people got this idea from.

As for what you can do with root:

Ad block
Free in app purchases
Xposed with a ton of customization
Uninstall system apps
Apps like Pryfi and Wifikill
etc.

5X hands down. Way better dev support, can unlock the bootloader without voiding the warranty, guaranteed updates instead of relying on Lelnovorola to grace you with updates.

>>51577854
Performance is fine. There is some hiccups, like today when I woke up the phone after 12 hours in doze mode it seemed like it took a few seconds to wake up. But the vast majority of the time I have no issues. I have disabled encryption though, so maybe that is why I don't have issues while others do.

>>51580810
5X is awesome. 6P is too big for me, I had the Zenfone 2 which is 5.5" and it felt big and clumsy (not to mention the software was bloated to hell). The 5X is an almost perfect size, feels like a phone and not a phablet.

>>51580869
This is not true at all. It is true that if you load 40 programs in memory, going back to some of the ones you used will have to reload. But the 2GB of RAM absolutely does not hinder performance.
