My friend has around $780 to spend on a gaming PC.
I'm good at putting together PCs (as in physically putting the parts together) but I would like feedback on my parts list
(especially the graphics card, I have no clue what I'm doing there):
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HXF8D3

-what could I do better?
-did I make any rookie mistakes?
>>
>>51539665
anyone willing to give me feedback?
>>
>literally shit tier PSU
>shit tier CPU cooler
Everything else is fine. Drop that cooler and tell your friend to save up $20-30 for a decent cooler and get a better PSU. Never cheap out on a PSU.

>500 watt psu

>literally who brand
>500w
I'd aim for at at least a good quality 550w PSU and even then you won't have much room for overclocking if any.
>>
>>51539665
212 EVO
There's an XFX TS series 550W that's usually the best, cheapest PSU out there at around $55. There may be some different one on sale but I don't care to look.
Corsair 200R is likewise usually the best, cheapest case.
>>
>>51540158
I don't plan on overclocking
>>51540202
I'll stick with this case. That case looks great, but also costs more than the one I'm using.
also that's the cooler I removed because of the price, but I'll add it back

Different anon here, need to buy parts for a friend that lives across the country. He will use a local shop to get it put together. Budget $1500-1700 including a monitor.
>>
>>51539665
i use that case i like it
>>
>>51540650
GTX 970 great choice
>>
>>51540650
nice cooler, it seems to be the standard for 'advanced' air cooling.
Case seems to be a little expensive, though.
find a cheaper optical drive, $15 is too much
Pirate windows 7, it's free

>>51540735
thank you. Not sure if it comes with those lights, though.
>>
>>51540763
yea the led fans come with the case
>>
>>51540859
yep, just watched a Newegg review
LED lighted fan only comes with the windowed version
>>
>>51540763
You don't argue with the Define R4 or R5
I would with the Caviar Black. clack clack clack clack clack
The Seagate 1TB is fast, reliable, and quiet.
>>
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.2591360

here bro, they give you a pretty sick mobo with this.
>>
>>51540763
>Case seems to be a little expensive, though.
Define R5 is worth every penny
>>
>>51541044
>O shit that's a good deal
>out of stock
Damn.
>>

Budget is 700$ max, will I be able to get a case/monitor without going over budget?
>>
>>51543067
>http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fNNwBm
Pick some cheaper RAM, name-brands aren't much better than generics
get my case (OP), it's cheap and looks good
For a monitor, just choose one you like, one around $100 should be good
>>
>>51539665
>http://pcpartpicker.com/p/HXF8D3
AMD shit, two-generation-old CPU, K-version for 'muh overclockan', no SSD, pointless CPU cooler (stock is probably just as good), Hyper Furious Extreme Gayman RAM, meme case with kindergarten blue plastic accents, shit PSU...

I don't see anything good about this build.
>>
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Scales101/saved/PtkQzy Please rate its my first build
>>
>>51540650
If he isn't a muh gayming pc faggot, you could get a mobo with the same specs but without red colors and muh extreme gayming logos for half the price.
>skylake
Literally one of the few intellectual /g/ posters, any pc built after September 2015 is either skylake or it's shit.
>strix 970
I have it myself and it's fucking nice, fans don't spin up until starting up a game that's made after 2012.
>ddr4-2400
I have the i5-6500 and I think it's up to 2133, and I guess the 6600k is up to 2133 too.
>13$ thermal paste
it's not even needed tbqh

I'd say go for a noise dampening case, get rid of the hdd, change ssd to 1tb, add some silent case fans, and your friend will call you back a week later asking you why his pc is so quiet.

any way I can shave 11 dollars off the base price of this (bring it below $800)?
>>
Not OP but how does this look for a mini build? I'm aiming for at least 970 level for under 850

Combos with your hard drive.
>>
>>51543067
Here:
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zfZwdC

Superbiiz rapes on shipping, so the 2TB from newegg with the combo w/ RAM is only a couple bucks more than the 1TB from Superbiiz
The 270 is not worlds slower than the 960. 960 is faster, but not "$90 in a budget build" faster)
>>
>>51543146
>>51544592
*Here, updated
Now with 380 and monitor included
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fCY9kL
>>
Feedback is wekcome.. If the price of the 390 drops any more ill get that.
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/youngflouse/saved/fgcscf
>>
Should I got 970 or raedon 390?
>>
>>51545394
Yes
>>
>>51543199
RAM was the cheapest 2x4GB set that went with the motherboard, had a price and at least one rating listed.
>>
>>51543311
>I have the i5-6500 and I think it's up to 2133, and I guess the 6600k is up to 2133 too.

whoa, is this correct? Does the i5 have a shit memory controller or something?
>>
>>51545763
lol. Few benchmarks and even fewer real-world applications benefit from 2400 vs 2133. Intel rates it's procs based on conservative numbers. Overclocking the memory controller is possible.
>>
>>51545394
>>51545454
Is the extra memory worth it with the loss of the optimization?
