It just seems like a really good deal compared to all the over priced tat from every other manufacturer. Can get a a lower spec i3 (which is the same as the i7 short of clock speed and some cache), select only a pcie ssd and leave the 2.5inch bay free for your own add in later. then 1080p, 8GB ram (admittedly on single channel) and the option to select no operating system puts you comfortably under £500 for specs not far off £1000 machines.

For those uses it's okay, it's running on windows 10 and half a dozen firefox tabs okay, but when going above two or more youtube tabs at the same time it slows down and the 32GB onboard memory needs augmenting with a decent microSD. it also lacks any usb3 and no ethernet port either, but has okay wireless capabilities. Doesn't weight anything either which is nice for actual portability. Libre office takes an age to start up, but I fond all office type programs these days slow.

In short it works, but I personally want a higher resolution screen.

Wouldn't change it for the world. Current laptops have all gone to shit tier status. All cpus are about muh efficiency and low power, and all suck. (i3 4200U, 5100 etc). I got my laptop for 400$, has an i3 390, and runs like a champ.

Also using a W520.

Love it still all these years later but Lenovo / Microsoft have really dropped the ball (basically never picked it up) on both quality of display hardware and how the OS handles it.

Given that 90% of my work ends up with a visual output usually via adobe software I'm finding it hard not to splurge on a rMBP although it's so locked down compared to my ThinkPad I doubt I'll cope.

Either way, ThinkPad as a brand is dead in the water.

I don't think it's a question of design, it's about engineering. Lenovo have stagnated hard, hell the whole Windows ecosystem has which is why Microsoft are now pushing their own hardware.

The reality is they're trying to sell the same chip set as Apple but in a significantly heavier package with worse battery life and displays that shouldn't of been shipped 3 years ago nevermind today.

The idea that you can 'bring-back' pro users by returning to a design that's had it's day and slapping a god-teir keyboard on it is ridiculous.

You want 'pro' users? Offer solutions that actually make the front-end of my work easier rather than trying to sell the back-end that should just be there by default.
>>
Shitty Lenovo G50-45. Probably the best quality/prace ratio at its range. I wanted to use the money for a ThinkPad instead, but I couldn't find a reliable seller anywhere. >What Laptop do you use at the moment?
For work, I have a HP ProBook 4440s (i5, 16GB RAM, 500HDD, 14''). It gets shit done.

>What laptop would you like to have?
Thinkpad X250. The CEO here has it and I love it,
>>
>>51277616
An awesome X230.

Maybe an XPS13 or an X1 Carbon. A Razer Blade would be cool to try out as well.
>>
>>51281888
How so? I thought the pro 4 will run smoother and longer battery life. The only thing i like about the x220 compare to pro 4 is the keyboard and expandable stuff
>>
>>51281456
>>51281463
I'm not even a gaymer (tried GTA V, though to test the performance), I don't even have windows installed on it, I took the recovery and wiped that shit and installed Linux, the only downside: the Wlan card doesn't working (ath10) even though I compile it from the source and tried the latest kernel.

As I said, any other portable workstation with the same specs or even less, you'll get it at least double the price (dell or HP)

And it doesn't have these childish LEDs or rainbows, you can even turn off the keyboard back light too. The only thing I didn't like t.b.h is the dragon logo on that space.

It's very light. Only 850mb ram usage while watching a youtube video and having another two tabs open. It also has a feature that when you close the browser the tabs are saved. So when you relaunch it it reopens the same tabs. So you can't accidentally close the browser and lose all the tabs. For the rest it's nothing special.

Like you said, it's mostly a design strategy and there is no proper functional change behind (so technically it's bullshit). It would be still better in terms of general comfort (like robustness i.e don't fear to throw your laptop in your backpack w/o breaking anything or more general keyboard typing)
I totally agree with you for the ecosystem situation. Now if you had to change for a new laptop, would you rather wait for a couple of year the offer (hard+software) get better?

Acer AO756-4411 any "ultrabook" that'll take Linux and not feel like a plasticy fucking shit.

I like my Acer well enough but it still feels like a big ball of gum holding together a plastic frame with relatively poor battery life.

B-but all the reviews that I read said it was incredibly cool, unibody aluminium chasis and 6h of browsing web/watching movies

yes with the 840m turned off that is, might as well take it out. The laptop will probably melt or lift off once it kicks in.

Just look at that beauty. It's amazing, way better than anything I've ever held or used

Have:
Thinkpad X61 Tablet with 1400x1050 screen and upgraded SSD.

Want:
A lightweight 11-13" laptop with modern performance, a screen that has none of 16:9 aspect ratio/768p/TN-panel trash, and preferably good Linux compatibility. And new too, since buying used tends to be a huge fucking hassle.

I'm leaning towards a MBP even though I personally disagree with Apple's philosophy just because literally nobody else makes new laptops that aren't 16:9 anymore.
