Took my 007 camping for a couple of days and remembered what a great watch it is. It got rained on and muddy and banged on rocks and it didn't skip a beat and the lume was perfectly visible from sunset all the way to sunrise. Is there a more perfect beater watch out there?
>>
>>51256332
I took a hell of a spill in some mud on a mountain with mine on. Quick run thru the shower and tried to get the mud out from between the rubber strap and watch and it's good as new.

Somehow I forgot to take a wrist photo the whole time I was there. I was at Garner state park, it's in the Texas Hill Country. It's normally really full but the weather was pretty shit so it was actually pretty nice and quiet.

It's pretty cool. Enchanted Rock is still my favorite park in Texas, though. I still haven't been to west Texas yet though, Big Bend and the other desert parks are supposed to be amazing too.

>>51256766
Yeah I'd love a 007 with a 6R15, but so far the movement in mine hasn't had any trouble. Which is odd because I had one of the really cheap Seiko 5s with the same movement and it shit the bed for no reason and I didn't beat it up nearly as much as the 007.

>>

Are they used? Lume probably faded over time.
>>
>>51257287
Well yeah it gets dimmer over time and the nuclear bright glow only lasts for a few minutes, but it continues glowing faintly for hours and your eyes can pick up green light very well. I can easily see it all night long if my eyes are adjusted.
>>
>>51257287
It should be pretty easy to see in low light for at least an hour. The thing about "all night" is most people don't wake up in a completely pitch black room, so the lume can be difficult to see by that point. But in darkness it should remain visible far longer than a half hour.

So I was just at an Omega retail store, been planning to buy a Seamaster Planet Ocean, and the dude there said that I'm best off getting my watch there. Is it worth it with the 4 year warranty if I'm paying like $7000 for it? A grey market dealer can sell it for much cheaper but I'm really worried about potential fakes. Any Rolex or Omega owners wanna help me out?

I would not pay the kind of money, for a Planet Ocean. I have too many friends and acquaintances with horror stories of their Omega's just breaking/stopping on them. I'd personally look for used or get a Rolex, if I had to buy new.

>Sienna

Basically a very large Camry.

But yeah, the 2GR-FE is a powerful engine. Even though it's several generations old, I can easily outrun my sister's F30 328i, mostly because the BMW turbo-4/automatic combo is clunky, noisy and rage-inducing. The 335i with the N55 I6 is the only 3-series that can outrun a V6 Camry and thus the only one worth buying.
>>
>>51257749
Good decision. If you don't have 7K just laying around, then never blow this kind of money on a fucking watch. ffs it just shows time.

For 7K one could have a lot of fun, why waste the money? These prices are only justified if you resell those watches and profit on them. But watches are not stocks, they are harder to sell and sometimes you'd have to wait for years.
>>
>>51257810
That would be the better choice, if you ask me. Also, I personally think the Sub looks better than the Planet Ocean. I'd grow tired of the way the Planet Ocean looks.
>>
>>51257842
Getting a luxury switch watch is basically equivalent to getting jewelry, that's the justification.
>>
>>51257815
Sounds about right. Lotus' use a modified 2GR-FE for their Le Mans. I like it a lot.

Why do people buy Fossil and Michael Kors? They're all quartz and have absolutely no character or charm. At least an F-91 W has a certain charm to it that you can appreciate. Or a Seiko 5, or an Orient Bambino.
People who wear fashion brands don't know much other than "aesthetics are everything, and Rolex is the best brand of all time."

You have to be pretty dead inside, if you cant come up with interesting stuff to do and shose a watch instead. Having it as a status symbol? well that is pretty beta if you have nothing interesting going for you, besides your watch.

The 2GR-FE that Lotus uses has been so heavily modified that by the time they're through, it's pretty much unrecognizable from its Camry beginnings. Although apparently TRD makes superchargers that will fit just fine on a stock 3.5L.

Not if you're upwardly mobile and consider it an investment. This obviously assumes you're smart enough to know what to buy so as to retain/increase value over time, ie. buying used etc.

>>51258016
desu unless you regularly visit 4chin or watch forums you probably have no idea anything other brands exist let alone vostok. Shipping from Russia also takes time and might seem a bit unusual to some. You can beat vostok in term of price+performance+styling. If it's more readily available and popular then more people will buy it. But you probably don't want that do you? Just let them waste their pleb money and fawn over my $70 meme watches.

Woah, I've never been in an accident before, so probably Toronto. >Various useful functions
>Solar charging
>Radio sync to atomic time
>Sapphire glass is nice to have
>Dial is well designed and isn't too busy
>Hands are simple and are utilitarian but still have a nice look to them

So unless you're a person who enjoys the outdoors or in the armed forces and actually need such functions, 500burgershekels kinda of an overkill for all of that.

The G-Shock rangeman GW9400-1, almost the same, smaller too, but the colors are crappy and the whole digital layout make it a little childish.

>Basically no lume
>Shitty Casio led illumination strikes again
True, thats actually one of the down point I spotted while searching about it.

>Sapphire glass is scratch resistant, but it's not as shock and impact resistant as acrylic and mineral. Aka a big nono in all weather watches.
Is there any Casio watches with acrylic?
If no, what do you suggest instead of that watch.
>>
>>51259486
Hard to say really, i like simple Casio's like the 5600 and the black rangeman looks neat.

Otherwise i guess some of the other G-shocks that are in the 1000/1100 bracket are okay, some of them are like 250~300 shekels.

Adding to what anon said,

Comfy, a lot of different styles and colors, can fit on pretty much and wristsize, cheap as hell (And even some of the better ones are relatively cheap), water exposure isn't an issue like with leather straps.

Basically the perfect start for a beater watch.

Got me another one of these super comfy and soft natos that one anon with a Shturmanskie shared.
>>
>>51258764
That watch is gigantic, so you'll probably look like a tool unless your daily wear isn't paratrooper, combat diver or oil rig worker gear.

Tisell Flieger anon here.

First impressions:
>Good build quality.
>Stock band isn't great and barely fits on my wrist, but it's not bad by any measure.
>Lume is pretty good, better on hands than the dial, but still works well.
>Can confirm heat blued hands.
>Crystal is sapphire and very slightly domed.
>Movement is nicely decorated.
Overall, it's a he'll of a lot of watch for $150.
>>
>>51260346

My problem is that they don't match the color of the date wheel to the dial. So many companies do that with so many watches and it always detracts from the look of the watch.
>>
>>51260159
Good job, overpaying for an ugly fieldwatch.
>>51260346
This. Not only ruins it the lineup with the big numbers it also puts the 15 out of the line of the small numbers.

A clear sign that hamilton didn't give a fuck about designing a proper dial for the movement. They slapped just shit together and knew some mouthbreather would buy it.

>>
>>51260686

>>
>>51260681
No, a fake Stowa is a portable man's Stowa.
The flieger design is a universal and historical design - whilst Stowa was one of the first to make it, they weren't the only company making it.
By your logic, a Seiko 5 flieger is a poor man's Stowa.
>>
>>51260681
>a flieger is now a status symbol

Are you even serious m10? This fugly watch costs 1270€ Every person with a job could afford it.
I'd get the cheap one, because obviosly nobody, besides some lonely permavirgin on a forum would care about it.
>>
>>51260581
They should have just removed the 15, like you always remove the 3. Also by the position of the date window it looks like they put in a movement originally meant for smaller cases, a sign that the Khaki is well on its way to becoming tryhard fashion garbage. Like how some modern Dodge Challenger have fake, non-functional hood-scoops to imitate the old Challengers, like the one in Vanishing Point.

It's the 43mm seagull version, right? I've been looking at the 40mm miyota version, but those blued hands don't really do it for me. Their 40mm subs look really neat but I'd prefer one without the cyclops, and their bauhaus should really have the date window at 3 o'clock instead of replacing the 6 o'clock numeral. It's still amazing how they sell hacking and hand-woundable automatics for less than $200.
>>

That makes no sense. What's the point of the logo under the case? Nobody will know what brand you're wearing, which defeats the purpose of buying an expensive watch.
>>
>>51260953
Correct.
Honestly, I think 40mm is a bit small for a flieger. Of course 43mm isn't really kosher either, it still looks the part.

But either way, it's a great buy and ticks all the boxes for a good flieger.
>>
>>51261007
Fliegers are ugly too f@m, field watches is where it's at, nigguh.

And, in the case of the Rolex/Tudor, they've gotten extreme in the amount or garbage they're printing in the dial.

That's too bad, man. You should be able to get it fixed though. Reminds me, I've gone through metal detectors, without them going off, while wearing my watch. Strange stuff.

Haha, no.

Stainless steel isn't magnetic, most of the metal in a watch isn't except for the screws and other small parts like that which probably aren't enough to set off the metal detector.

Yet another in a statistically improbable number of people from Southern Ontario in these threads.

>Stainless steel isn't magnetic
Then how are handguns detected, dummy? Kinda defeats the purpose of the metal detector.
>>
>>51265489
You would just think, that they should be able to detect steel too. What holds people from carrying big steel knifes in their pants, then?

>How easily a type of metal is detected depends on magnetic
permeability, which means how easily the metal is magnetized
coupled with the electrical conductivity of the metal. Material
that is easily magnetized and more conductive is easier to detect.
The hardest metal type to detect is stainless steel, which is usually
non-magnetic and a poor conductor of electricity

I guess this is more complicated than just a matter of whether the metal is ferromagnetic, but still apparently stainless is pretty hard to detect.

>>51265516
Are handguns even stainless? I'm pretty sure they're mostly made out of carbon steel but I don't really know shit about guns.

>>51265544
Stainless steel and carbon steel are not the same thing at all. Most knives are carbon steel because it sharpens better and it's stronger than stainless, carbon steel is easy to detect.

It's not like a metal detector is a big magnet, otherwise metal shit would just get ripped from your pockets.

It creates an electromagnetic field and conductive shit inside it will create its own field and cause detectable distortion

Ok but that's also a lot bigger than a watch.

I wasn't saying that. I was implying that people could just make their own big stainless steel knifes. Sorry if that wasn't too clear.

>>51265638
Yeah I'm aware of how they work. I wold just think that a 150 gram of steel on my wrist would be detectable. Maybe the detector weren't even turned on, it was Greece after all.
