How are we all doing this evening?

I was at the local richfag mall this aft and happened across a jeweller selling Oris watches. They seemed decent, but nothing special. What does Archie see in them, exactly? Or was he just shilling for Oris because he had to sell one?

Looking to get my first watch. I want high durability without the sporty look of a gshock (I hate the way they look). I love the classic look of watches and have been looking at the Swiss army inox watch with a metal band.

Is there anything else within its price range that would be better? Pic related.

They really aren't though. When you actually have them both in hand the legit one is noticeably better than the fake. They are absolutely not $190 better but there is a difference.
>>
>>51235399
Because there is literally nothing special about mid-range Swiss watches and everyone here knows that. It's the kind of watch you'd buy if you made middle management and wanted something a nicer than your Hamilton but you couldn't justify a Rolex to your wife (or just couldn't afford one). If /wt/ spends $1,800 on something, it tends to be really unique or bizarre.

>>
>>51235815

Quartz aint all bad. I just hate the ticking sound quartz watches make.
>>
>>51236087
Well I probably use the Chronograph about once a year and could easily do without it, but I do like the style, size, and bracelet. I also got it for around $70 brand new, which was quite a bit less than the larger Seiko 5s with metal bracelets go for, but I still look at some of those and get a bit jealous.

A lot. Since the Sub's case is 5mm thick and then slowly grows to 12,5 because of the bubble caseback. The Milgauss is a sexy 13,5 all across, I believe.

Don't listen to us marketing victims. Your watch is tough, accurate, and affordable. Seiko invented quartz chronographs so you have heritage in spades. There's no reason it can't last you the rest of your life. Plenty of vintage quartz watch collectors on forums everywhere are still wearing watches from the first year quartz watches were sold.
>>

>>
>>51236680

I don't know about you, but I buy watches, not movements. Let's look at a submariner:

$800, pretty undecorated movement with fantastic performance and a great hairspring you won't find elsewhere.

Triplock crown where everybody else has one or two gaskets.

Fantastic bracelet with an innovative clasp that has since been duplicated but is no less brilliant for that.

Watchmakers all over the world know how to work on it.

And yes, a respected brand name for decades and an iconic design.

I don't have a Rolex, but people who buy them aren't categorically suckers.

My 6 month old skx013k stopped working yesterday, I noticed the movement sounded REALLY clunky recently, and I think the rotor has detached or broken.

Reason being, the original 70s/80s ones were issued to Naval officers so there's a lucrative market for dressing other 3133s up as them to get more money. You have to become a detective to spot what's good and what's not.

Not necessarily. There are a lot of old railroad-grade stopwatches that beat at around 5 bps, but the things are outrageously accurate, almost quartz-accurate (assuming they're kept in a certain position, which is usually the case with a pocket watch). As a railroad employee, you would be issued with one, but you weren't actually allowed or able to set it yourself, that was the stationmaster's job. Your sole responsibility would be keeping it wound up. It would be a damn long time before it needed to be reset, and even then it would only be a half-minute off or so.

The superlative does crack me up just a little bit sometimes. Free-sprung balance with a Breguet over-coil hairspring though, so that's good stuff.

Not necessarily more accurate, but it does help the watch come back up to full amplitude (and therefore regular running rate) if the watch ever experiences a shock and the balance gets slowed down at all.
