It's hard to make and paint it, you'd need a thin copper plate, special paint and to glue the indices very precise.
Def worth a try, but for starters i'd just look for a swap out dial that fits the dimensions of the watch.
There are tutorials on youtube how to draw your own dial with a program. Drawing that shit by hand will be unprecise and visible later on.

I probably can't bring anything up without you calling it marketing. They've made advancements in the materials of many of the important components including balance wheel, hairspring and even the crystal. That add shows a watch with a plastic crystal, not sapphire. Some of these advancements are not cheap.
This is part of the reason vintage Rolex are often such bad deals with a super inflated market. You can get a lot of interesting and cool omegas, for comparison, that come at a reduced price to their current models.

I think it's a pretty tasteful and well executed way to update the classic sub style with its own twist. It's definitely better than hurr lets take the same exact watch and make it a little bigger and give it big fat stupid lugs and a flashy shiny bezel to make it uglier route they took with the actual sub. You're right though, all the new Rolex models are ugly and the II updates are all worse than the originals.
Unfortunately it seems that now they're ruining Tudor too by slapping a new movement in it, putting another paragraph on the dial, and raising the price a bunch.

Hacking is being able to stop the seconds hand by pulling the crown (when you're setting the time). It allows you to set the seconds exactly, which you cannot do on this movement.
Handwinding is being able to "charge" the watch by turning the crown. Automatic watches "charge" by the movements of your wrist during wear. Handwinding is be useful if you plan on not wearing the watch for more than a couple days, and don't want it to stop.
Some people consider one or both of those essential. Some people don't care. I myself don't think the 7s26 movement in this watch is accurate enough for the absence of hacking to be an issue.

Toughness and hardness are not the same thing. Titanium is softer than steel, it'll scratch much more easily.

Get a diver or a G-shock. Be aware though that a sapphire crystal can shatter in an impact though so if there's a risk of impact it might be better to go for something like Seiko hardlex rather than sapphire. The trade off is a little less scratch resistance for some more shatter resistance.
I usually wear a Seiko SKX007 because it's cheap enough that we won't be too hurt if it gets wrecked and it's a nice tough watch. The crystal isn't sapphire but I have yet to scratch it because the bezel absorbs most impacts anyway. It's also mechanical which is more sensitive to shocks and stuff than quartz would be but I haven't had problems with it.
Also if you wear it inside your wrist when you work you get extra smooth operator points and you're much less likely to beat it up and you get to make /g/ incredibly angry every time you post a photo of it.

If you love the designs (which aren't for everybody) go for it, you will not be disappointed. The fit and finish are great, they put good features/technology into the watches while keeping them at a good value, and they are very well regulated from the factory (mine is within COSC specs). As far as the in-house movements go that could be a bit of a gamble but they've been around for like 20 years and seem to be doing quite well so they definitely won't be going away any time soon.

Rolex also created their own steel because the steel that they were getting wasn't always up to the quality standards that they wanted. I can tell you from personal experience that trying to polish steel with imperfections in it sucks balls and 904l steel is way nicer to work with.

As far as I understand the 316L on some of their rolexes was experiencing some amount of pitting and wear that they thought 904L would solve.

Those are some serious red flags going on there and I've literally never heard of them before. I'd suggest going with a Laco or save up more money and go with Stowa. Those two companies are two of the five original manufacturers that made watches for the Luftwaffe during WW2.
what tools do I need to replace the calendar ring in my 2416 vostok? I'm going to salvage another for parts.
Anyone have any specific recommendations? This will be my first time working on a watch but I'm not really afraid to fuck it up. It's a cheap watch that can be replaced relatively cheap but on that note I really don't want to spend that much since I can replace it cheaply (hence why I'll do it myself).
I suspect I'll need some sort of case holder, I can use my pliers as a case wrench, and a hand puller. Anything else?
