I've been thinking about picking up RTK again. I started RTK 14 months ago and got a little past the half way mark, then completely stopped (including SRS) and instead started core6k. I've finished core6k and been adding my mined vocab (mostly from 歌詞) however feel that my biggest weakpoint is failing to recognize the small radical differences between similar words. Can't help but think picking up RTK again and finishing it will help me on this. Any opinions/advice?

Anon who finished Mayuri's route as my first route about 5 days ago here.

Went with Amane's route next because another anon recommended it. Thanks to whoever recommended her route to me, she was totally different from what I expected her to be (in a very good way) and I really enjoyed her route. It seemed to cover a lot of ground in terms of uncovering more bits of the mystery and shedding new light on various characters, too.

Since the common recommendation seems to be to save Yui for last, should I go for Kururi or Sakurako next? Or does it not matter much?

>>135108312

How do i know when to use に rather than を? Wouldn't fabric be the target of きる?
>>
>>135108138
You use をto express that something is the object in a sentence; 布を鋏で切る.
リンゴを食べる
に is mostly used for when something is changing or you're going towards stuff.
違う話題に切り替える
(changing to a different topic)
東京に行く
>>
>>135108620
It's not the "target", it's the direct object of きる.
を is the only particle that does that.
>>
>>135108620
に is mosly used like in 彼に彼女に電話された. を marks the main object affected by the action.

I've been doing ANKI for 12 days, but my daily routine is not 24h based (more like 30 hours per "day").

Because of that, I have 3 days marked as skipped in my study log.

Any advice on this? Should I study double when I get the time?

Should I study when I wake up and before going to bed on the day after I miss a study session, to compensate?

Or should I keep going at this slower rate?

>>
>>135112676
It really doesn't, some things can be harder to understand, and sentence structure in general is an arduous thing to cement in your brain, but in terms of straight up difficulty, verb conjugation is the hardest (mainly due to being really "arbitrary" from your point of view).

マクドナルドで野菜っぽいメニューを食べるなら、モグモグマックよりも断然ハムタスだ。「野菜を食べている感」が強いし、何より食べたことがある組み合わせなので安心だ。

正直、ただ単純に「ハムサンドが食べたい」と思ったら『サブウェイ』に行ってしまうと思う。しかし、マックやラーメン屋くらいしか営業していないような深夜でもこういうアッサリしたハンバーガーが買えるというのは嬉しいかもしれない。

"if you want to eat a vegtablelike menu item at mcdonald's, this item is the one. It feels alot like you are eating vegtables, but this has the safest combination.

Honestly if you wanted a ham sandwich i think you should to subway. However, in the late night when only mcdonalds and ramen shops are open, this can be easily bought which i guess is a blessing. "

Here's my guesslation.
If you want to eat something vegetable based, even over モグモグマック, ハムタス is the definitive choice. It feels alot like you are eating vegatables and above all, you can rest at ease since this is a combination (of ingredients) that you have eaten before.

アッサリしたハンバーガー

Sounds like Windows did an update in the background. Are you on Windows 8 or higher? This has happened to me a few times till I changed some permission settings to stop automatic updates. Millions of people have run into this issue of Windows more or less failing to reboot after shutting itself down and going into a restart cycle. Even some of the retards on the official Windows help forums suggest if people cannot get beyond this, to do a clean install.
I managed to get through it by holding the power button long enough to shut it down that way and keep trying to boot up till it worked. Sometimes it took over an hour to get beyond that stupid "windows starting..." prompt.

Fucking stupid, but yeah: Windows.
>>
>>135114083
>The anki progress is probably gone however, it syncs when I close the program and I guess I hadn't closed it for a week.

If you can recover it from the drive, it won't be lost, because Anki saves regularly (source: recent power outage in the middle of my reps).
>>
>>135114148

I only lost half of yesterday's anki use.

Anyway sorry for blogging.

Think of it this way: when people say they love someone, most of the time what they really mean is that they love what the person represents, the image or thing/being of that person; their actions, achievements; what they mean to the person holding affection. Women don't love men, they love the thing of what the man does for them. It is a matter of physicality and abstraction.

>>135116131
There is a degree of separation that we aren't really cognizant of when using the English language. こと is identifying the state of being of the individual specifically, in this context, which the person is enamoured with. Depending on the people/situation, it could seem more or less of an intimate expression of your emotional attachment to the individual. What is love, at the end of the day? You have to experience in some manner, either be it by direct interaction or empathy, the feelings expressed to which the language is being used to signify. Some tangible things sound odd to directly talk about in respect to actions which stem from an immaterial source while some intangible states feel at odds to discuss in a direct manner.

こと can be thought of sometimes as a means to quantify a relationship between a quantitative, measurable state and a subjective reference.

There's like less than a dozen people total who have contributed to the things that are associated with the DJT links/guide/page. Good luck encoraging people to add to the reading list when most of us are too busy looking for things to rag on and meme about.
That said I've written up a little bit about stuff I'm reading. Have a small list of non-Core words and niche things I had to look up, but most of it is scattered across a pile of different text documents. It needs a bit of cleaning up but I was going to add it to the list on the page people can add stuff to, when I'm done reading through. I'll get off my arse, stop being lazy and eventually and put it together in a summary.

What do you think of adding frequency/word lists to a pastebin and linking it with the Reading List reviews of things? Just started reading a light novel series and the text source can be analysed. They might give people interest in the series if they knew how many unique kanji/words, etc. are involved? Just shooting ideas because I have nothing else useful to bring to the table at the moment.

>>135117776
The kanji deck an anon posted in the last thread is real nice. Link to the post >>135081856

I guess you could add a column where you can add in your text documents if you want to but I can't get on board with your text source analysing idea. It might encourage people to stay in their bubble of material they know they can read and stagnate improvement. For now it would be good if we could expand the (dynamic) reading list as much as possible and maybe get more people to add to it.

Oh man I remember talking about this with you a couple months back. It could work I guess. It sounds pretty stupid, but it could work. Automating it would be a pain in the ass though. Even if you exclude words that are already in the user's Anki deck, there'll still be a couple hundred to a thousand words that he already knows but hasn't put in Anki. So you might have to stick to people contributing their own "unique vocab".

Unless what you mean is just give the user 20-50 less common words to get an idea of how hard it is.
>>
>>135117871
the thing is, i tried rtk out (using the book, and anki to review) .. about 1200 kanji in, I realized that i was spending more time on mnemonics and stories than on kanji.

What took you so long? The thing about learning vocabulary first, is that they become a tool to help you remember the kanji later in a helpful way.

>>
>>135118413
It sounds like I didn't do a very good job of explaining.
Using some of CB's text analysis software I can run a text file of some light novel volume, for example, and also input a text file containing a list of known words- such as a list of the words in the Core 2000 part of the Core2k6k10k deck, or the first 6000 words, whatever- and the program will when analysing the text, ignore the list of known words when calculating the output.

As a hypothetical tiny example, say the text has the following words
年上
上げる
下り
あれ
椅子
一昨日
高さ
今晩
椅子

While using a text file of known words
年上
上げる
下り
あれ

The output file would only contain the following as unknown
椅子
一昨日
高さ
今晩
椅子

It would make a lot more sense if I compiled an actual example using the Core2000 words and a text source. Might do it a little bit later and post the results.
>>
>>135118697
Or you can just add the words you don't know as you encounter them vita rikisama? Just type the word into a text box and highlight. If you are at the point where this would stop you every other sentence then you need to do core 6k and N5-N1.
>>
>>135118697
Yeah, I do get what you're saying. What I'm saying is that even after excluding core6k + whatever the user has mined, won't there be a lot of redundant words that the user has learned already just from reading and not from Anki (since it won't be in the "excluded" list)?

Just checking -- the purpose of this is to let the reader learn all the vocab before starting to read right?

They could do that I suppose. It is essentially the same as mining vocab only a means to entirely automate the process upfront.

>>135118841
>Another learn Japanese quick scheme.
Not at all. Can you please explain the difference between:
Reading a book/series and adding unknown words as you come across them.
AN
Reading a book/series and reviewing the unknown words from the get go instead of mining them as you come across them.
You're going to mine those words if your intention is to mine the unknown words in the material you are reading, one way or the other. By comparing this to a
>learn Japanese quick scheme.
You are also saying the same thing about someone using the Core2k6k10k deck, because it is the exact same thing, only something like this is tailored to the material you are currently reading.
>>
It's gotten to the point where I don't even considering reading Japanese SOL nukige/moege to be study because I benefit so little (since I already know the vast majority of what I see). However, I still read them more than anything else, indeed because the words like LOGH which have high density of unknown words turns me away.
>>135118652
I have installed like, 60 VNs. I will write my process.
1) Download from a legal vendor
2) Extract ISO file using winrar
2.5) If MDF, change to ISO and try extracting that, if it fails just mount the MDF with a disk mounter
3) Run the game exe
3.5) If an error occurs, proceed to step four, if the game opens, you're done
4) Run the setup.exe
5) Setup the game, put shortcut on desktop
6) Doubleclick shortcut
7) Game runs, all good
7.5) If the game has an error message like pic related, you need to use AlphaROMdie to crack the exe, just dragging the exe over the alpharom executable should work. If a game needs AlphaROM then the torrent you got it from likely included a rar of alpharom.
8) Texthooking - To be 100% honest, I only used Chiitrans lite and skipped a game if Chiitrans lite didn't work. This is because it's so much better than anything else. For Chiitrans lite, there are two methods. Open chiitrans and then open the game through it, or open the game then attach Chiitrans to the game window. The latter method does not work for random games for no apparent reason. Chiitrans will then hook the game. Begin playing the game and skip through some text by clicking manually, and somewhat slowly. Chiitrans will start reading threads. Uncheck garbage (stuff like 「」「」・・「」・・) and only check the actual text. Done. Some games will not find actual text. That means you can't read them with Chiitrans, and in that case I just wouldn't read the VN. However 90% of games I've played found actual text.
8.5) Chiitrans works with all Kirikiri games, the most common VN engine.
Any questions?

>How can you do that if you are reading a light novel on a Kindle, for example?

Not him but my Kindle has a Vocabulary Builder function that even has built-in flash cards. All words that I look up get recorded there with example sentences pulled from the sentences they were used. But usually I just type the words I don't know on my PC and use Epwing2Anki from the Vocab Builder. If I'm not wrong, certain versions of Kindles just save to a word list file which would make it even easier to import to Anki.

Works pretty well for me.
>There is a reason why no one has done this before
People have been doing this for years on the Kanji Koohii forum.
>aside from it being a stupid idea.
You have yet to explain how it is a stupid idea. I've already presented why I think it is essentially the same as mining from a source but vastly easier and to be honest your response seems like a kneejerk reaction to something you don't know much about. The statement that "on one has done this before" illustrates that you are making up things to support your emotional position, as it is not based on evidence. This of course could be entirely incorrect but you have provided no evidence to the contrary.

Either way, some people will take advantage of this while others won't. There are still people out there that hold similar views as your own towards texthookers and pop-up electronic dictionaries. This antagonism towards different ideas isn't exactly a unique human trait.

A bit more on the Kindle deal.
There is a program called Sent to Kindle, which allows you to send mobi files to Amazon's servers under your account, which are then converted to an encrypted azw3 file for Kindle devices/Kindle Android/iOS app, called a prc file. Using a program called Calibre and a third party plugin it can remove the encrypted DRM from this prc file and convert them to an azw3 file anyone can use on their Kindle device. The prc encrypted files are registered to the user account, so they can't be shared.

There is a collection of already converted Japanese ebooks in the CoR, a collection of both azw3 and also text/ebook/mobi files if you want to handle those yourself.
Here is a link to the root folder of these different files, if for whatever reason you want to download anything and everything in bulk:
https://mega.nz/#F!65dD2AhK!KnLYlyy0Ax65qxzWIOLKbA
This might be a bit easier to use, though. It is a spreadsheet with the contents mapped out in a more user friendly manner.

So is he saying that the consequence of buying from another company would increase the price

or

if they bought from another company, and then the price rose, they would be unable to sell to the customer cheaply

I have wasted literally a month making 0 progress, spending all my time reading moege and nukige instead of reading economic stuff like >>135120134 which will actually help me improve. And yet, even being aware of this, nothing will change, because there aren't too many economic VNs to study with

VNs VNs VNs. Why is everyone here so obsessed with VNs.

Why do you fucking care if you can read what you like already?

>That's not uptight.
It is really.
>Your post and the Australian's response to it is what's uptight.
Calling out pointless shitposting that has both nothing to do with the conversation and which if the shoe was on the other foot, would most definitely has caused Americans to respond aggressively, is not being uptight. Don't be hypocritical bud: if you can't handle the response, don't flame. You're being uptight about getting called out.

That's real banter.
What is up with these Captcha at the moment? A few posts ago it has a picture of two people clearly identifiable walking down a road.

Because they're the highest medium of art, the most immersive and emotional storytelling technique, and the greatest VNs rank as the most beautiful works of literature ever written in the history of mankind.

Transactions happen at a price. If you change supplier the previous price won't carry over. If the negotiations go bad you might have to pay a higher price than before.

So the first one I guess.

VNs are comfortable. Anime girls are always in front of you, text is one line at a time, and unlike manga you have easily copy/pastable text.

If I go to diamond.jp all I get is articles about boring economic shit. If I open LOGH, which is pretty compelling, I get an overwhelming wall of pic related, no anime girls in sight. Hard to stay focused and motivated.

I dunno anon, maybe because I've dumped years into learning the language and it's really depressing/hurtful to me to see simple-ass economic dialogue be way out of my league. Can't even cut on the news without being lost. I want to be fluent in a language I've dedicated a good chunk of my life in.

奈須 ranks up there with Shakesphere and E. L. James.
