I have a feeling you have no idea how long it takes for an artist to actually draw a piece. Most artists don't even charge minimum wage for themselves, when they should. The sketches I draw for anons would go for around $8-16 if I were to charge my usual rate, and $40 would get you a lineart of a complex character at most.
