Does anyone know why japanese artists censor their art with tiny black bars? I understand it's some kind of law, but why?
You can see everything, so it really defeats the purpose of censoring those pics in the first place.

it's a vague Japanese law that just says genitals have to be censored but it doesn't say how. i think most artists try to err on the side of caution because they might get in trouble with the law for showing too much (i dont know how often artists face actual legal problems though??) but others just say fuck it and do a tiny little black bar because that's technically censored.
