Unfortunately, for all the effort Slaine had put into avoiding Trillram's attention, it proved to be nothing but wasted energy as the older man turned around just as Slaine passed the threshold. Slaine warily wondered if Trillram had intentionally entered before him just to have this awkward confrontation, and in all honesty it wouldn't have surprised him if he had. Still, in an attempt to just get this meeting over and done with, Slaine stood straight and bowed his head to him in greeting.
"Good morning, Mr Trillram."
With any luck, perhaps Trillham might also share the sentiment that it was just a little too early to start his usual "gentle teasing" of Cruhteo's apprentice. After a moment or two of prolonged silence, Slaine heard a soft grunt of acknowledgement from where Trillram stood leaning against the granite countertop, sipping from his own cup. Slaine, relieved that he also seemed to be too tired to give him trouble, glanced up and gave Trillram a wry smile as he walked over to the coffee pot. The coffee was still hot, and by the looks of it, thankfully just enough for Slaine to fill Cruhteo's cup. Feeling unusually at ease with the other in the room, he tried making small talk as he stirred sugar into the aromatic brew. "I heard Mr Saazbaum's team recently found a hole in the UFE's main OS that they're planning to exploit in the next software update, do you think it's going to be enough to bring the system down this time? I thought that, maybe if they used it with new program Mr.Cruhteo's working on, it would cripple most of the UFE's future products for a while." Since Gilzeria had passed not too long after the building was completed, the Vers company had been under the defacto rule of Saazbaum due to the CEO's dwindling health.

A condescending scoff from behind him caused Slaine to turn around as Trillram sneered and tossed his now empty cup into the sink.
"Don't just talk about things you don't understand, brat. Parroting the gossip you hear around the place isn't going to make you any less of the higher ups glorified lap warmer." Slaine froze, only breaking the silence with the ting of the teaspoon against the porcelain cup. He was already used to this kind of talk from all over the company; by now it shouldn't have fazed him but it still struck a cord deep within him. The worst part of it all was that he wasn't in a position to deny it either - not that they would have believed him either way. The blonde boy impulsively lowered his head again, to which Trillram only rolled his eyes. "Just stick to the only thing you're good for, runt. If we had to rely on the opinion of Cruhteo's dick sleeve to conduct our business, we would have gone under years ago." Slaine winced at the insult and not wanting to spend another second in Trillram's company, he turned to leave, clasping the coffee cup tightly in his hands as if to try and retain the heat.

“Oh, that’s right! Your interview at VERS is this evening, isn’t it? Perhaps you can take a ride with Slaine.” Asseylum’s eyes darted, birdlike and sparkling between the two boys as they walked along on either side of her. She turned to Inaho again, ”It might help you to be a little early!”
“That..” Inaho hesitated a bit but didn’t break his stride. “That.. might not be a good idea.”
Slaine stopped in his tracks altogether, “Your.. what?”
“Interview.” Inaho replied curtly, glancing back at the shocked teen. He stopped as well, Asseylum hovering between them. He caught a glimpse of something like distress flash across Slaine’s face before the other boy blinked it away and repeated himself, more emphatically.
“...What?!”
“An interview, a formal meeting in which one or more persons question, consult, or evaluate another person.”
“But why at VERS!?”
“Inaho has been- oh my, what is the term-” Asseylum cut in, the excitement in her voice overflowing, “Headhunted? Isn’t that amazing, Slaine?”
“More like scouted, maybe. I’m just a student.” Inaho brushed a stray wisp of hair out of his left eye and carefully watched the other boy’s face as he explained further. “Someone there apparently read bits of my A.E. source code and took an interest. A prospective internship program, they said. It’s all experimental right now. Even more likely, it’ll be short lived, I’m not really looking forward to it, and my Sister already hates the idea on principle, but...”
“You can’t be serious.”
"I was a little irritated they managed to find me. I need to know how.”

This was just the start of yet another long work day - all Slaine had to do was make it to six o’clock and he’d be left to his own devices until he went home. The apprentice had barely made it out of the room when he felt something hook around his ankle and yank. Slaine hardly registered what was happening as he stumbled forward awkwardly and threw his right foot down firmly to keep himself upright. He heard a soft, disappointed 'tch' from behind him as a shaky exhale left Slaine's lips. He wasn’t able to revel in salvaging Cruhteo’s morning cup for long however, as the near boiling liquid spilled over his hands in spite of his precarious balancing act. Unable to help himself, he let out a sharp yelp and jerked his hands away from the offending cup, jumping back just in time to avoid the shrapnel of the shattered porcelain and the rest of the hot liquid. Clasping his scalded hand in the other firmly, Slaine could only grimace at the mess slowly spreading across the floor. He didn’t have time to deal with this right now – a quick glance at the clock on the wall already told him that if he didn’t leave now, he’d be even later to Cruhteo’s office but it’s not as if he’d be able to leave the mess here without being reprimanded for it later too.

Slaine chewed his lip nervously, momentarily forgetting the throbbing pain in his hand and that he wasn’t alone in the room. A rough shove to his shoulder followed by a loud cackle pulled Slaine out of his anxious worries about his next act as Trillram pushed him aside to walk through the doorway.
“Can’t even carry a damn cup, what’s the matter with you?” he chided, stepping over the shards and spreading liquid as though they weren’t even there. The apprentice couldn’t help but grit his teeth, suddenly gripping his hand tighter in a vain attempt to stop himself from lashing out at the obnoxious man.
“Cruhteo’s wasting his time with the likes of you. Just thinking about sharing an office with a self-entitled brat like you makes it hard to work, you know?” Slaine dug his nails into his skin hard enough to leave deep half circles in the reddening flesh, his shoulders practically shaking from trying to contain himself.
“Perhaps you should consider getting more training or taking on tasks you can handle if you have to resort to poor excuses like that for your low quality work, Trillram.”
The new voice threw Slaine off guard whilst Trillram only scowled at the owner.
“You’ve only been here for a few weeks, Harklight, you wouldn’t understand what I’m talking about.” He snapped, glowering up at the taller man. Slaine briefly wondered just when and where this new individual showed up, momentarily forgetting his pent up anger and the coffee still at their feet. Harklight nodded to him slightly in greeting before he returned his attention to the seething Trillram.

“Maybe, but I’m sure there’s work you could be now doing instead of harassing and tired apprentice in the break room.” He paused for a moment, looking over at Slaine again before settling on Trillram once more. Trillram looked just about ready to start up another confrontation with his fists curled into tight balls but Harklight only stood still, clearly not noticing or just outright ignoring him, as he slowly slipped his hand into his pocket to reach for his own phone.
“I’m sure both Cruhteo and Saazbaum would agree with me, if I were to ask them.” At that Trillram went still before relaxing his fists, grunting as he turned away from them both to leave.
“Bah, whatever. I have better things I need to be doing anyway.” Slaine was fairly certain he heard a faint “Kissass” from him as he skulked away, but he didn’t linger over it in favour of staring at his new companion curiously instead. The blonde boy was genuinely taken aback when he was greeted with a small smile from – what did Trillram say his name was again? Harklight? and suddenly felt flustered by the whole situation and the fact that he had been caught staring. It wasn’t his fault; Slaine wasn’t used to any smiles in this place that weren’t full of contempt or an overwhelming amount of arrogance. In the back of his mind, a small voice chided that perhaps this too – the very idea of someone in this place who didn’t know about him or didn’t want to chastise him for the hell of it – was nothing more than another set up to an elaborate prank.

I colleced Sinba's books from SnK fandom and picked this one up just on a whim when I saw it, didn't know it was omegaverse. So I take it from your reactions that the show's not really worth watching then? I watched the first three or so episodes and liked it well enough then dropped it and was hoping to marathon it after it finished. Caught bits and pieces from the threads so I know about the Season 1 finale and Slaine's suffering.
But I'm guessing they never went into interesting things like deconstructing Inaho's autism, Dr. Troyard and Vers empire history, Slaine's lack of pupils, or any of that stuff. Shame, that would've truly been interesting.
