A collection of short stories by Robert W Chambers pertaining to a fictional play called 'The King in Yellow' taking place in some fantastical or semi-fantastical place. Supposedly the play causes madness or bizarre obsession. It and various terms associated with it figure mostly in the stories 'The Yellow Sign' and 'The Repairer of Reputations'.
Names such as 'Hali', 'Hastur' and 'Carcosa' are in fact creations of an earlier writer, Ambrose Bierce. The collection was much admired by H.P. Lovecraft and he referenced the work lightly.
