I dont know how many times Ive heard people in other states passing off rumors as news about my state that never happened. They hear some dogshit on the internet and repeat it.
We had some stupid stories about gas station pumps in Florida being rigged with STD needles that would infect the next person that used the pump. Of course, these articles were produced for New York publications and lacked a primary source.
