Hey, posting this as a creepy story, and also an inquiry for some information. I've had three experiences of knocks in the middle of the night in my life that I've written off as unexplainable, until recently.

I browse /x/ on a regular basis, but never felt compelled to post anything until I stumbled across a typical "unexplainable experiences" thread a month or so ago. In said thread someone posted an incident very similar to mine, where in the dead of night they heard three loud, distinct knocks on their third story window. I was very interested because an anon replied "Do you live in Florida?" And after the original poster confirmed he did, the anon basically just said, yeah that makes sense, like it's a perfectly normal occurance here. I asked if he had any more information, but got no response, and eventually the thread 404'd.

I basically forgot about it until a couple weeks ago when browsing the paranormal board on Reddit, (I know, but let's be honest, this board sucks sometimes) there was a post about a guy from Florida who kept getting woken up by three knocks on his window. So now I definitely believe there is something to this, and would like more information from anyone who knows why this paranormal occurrence is such a common thing in Florida.

I will post my stories separately to keep this original post short. Thank you.

Stop Aggravating it

Alright, first story.

I was twelve, making my little brother nine. We shared a room as my family has always been relatively broke, and I have quite a few siblings. The room was on the second floor. We had two twin sized beds, his being directly against the far wall under the window, and mine on the other side of the room. We had school in the morning, and it was about midnight, so I turned the T.V. off, and rolled over to try and sleep.

About five minutes go by, and out of nowhere we hear five fast, very urgent ,fast-paced knocks. My brother freaks the hell out, naturally, and I try to calm him down, saying it was probably just a bird or something. I knew it wasn't, as there was no ledge on the outside, and while we did have bamboo trees surrounding the back patio, they were a good 15 feet from our window.

So he calms down a bit, and just as we're drifting off we hear three very loud, very intentional bangs on the window. He runs to my parents room, and I shine the mag-light I had in my drawer outside and all around the property, and of course nothing is there.

My brother slept in the hallway for a couple nights too afraid to sleep in the room, but I switched our beds so I was on the window side, and no knocking in that house happened afterwards.

Don't get me wrong, that house was hella haunted and a bunch of other shit happened, but that's unrelated.

Next story on my lunch break.

Alright, story two.

A year later we got a really good deal on a condominium right on the beach from some friends of my Dad's.
We lived on the very top floor, which was the sixth, and I finally had my own room. I didn't have blinds on my window, so at night the lights for the 7-11 across the street meant it was always bright in my room and I could see outside perfectly fine.

We had been there a month and I was pretty comfortable there. One night at around 2a.m. I was drawing something for my art class, the 711 lights so bright I didn't even need my light on. I got that feeling we all get when we know something is watching us, but in was on the sixth floor so I shrugged it off. Not five seconds later I hear three loud bangs on my window, and this time I could actually see the window vibrate from the force. I didn't even know what to think, so I just went into the living room and slept on the couch. Apparently my sister had the same thing happen to her the next night.

Third story coming ASAP. Also probably the one that shook me up the most.
>>
Alright, last one finally.

This happened not too long ago this year. I'm 26 now so it's been 13 years since the last occurance.

I live in a one story house now, no longer in the condo.
It was about 5 in the morning and I was in that state where you're not asleep, but you're just thinking to yourself and on the cusp of passing out. I am and extremely light sleeper. If I hear a mouse yawn, I'm awake. So basically I hear the first loud ass bang, like someone balled up there fist and tried to break my window, and I'm instantly wide awake. Then I hear the second, and by then I'm already out of bed. By the time I heard the third I was already looking out the window for someone. Keep in mind this all happened in 3 seconds. So I ran outside and searched the entirety of my property, and of course, nothing.

Now I don't know if this is related, but the very next night I slept perfectly fine, but when I woke up I freaked the fuck out. My armoire door was completely open, my closet door was wide open, and all three of the amethyst crystal chunks I keep on top of my dresser that are 3 pounds a piece, along with a record that was also on top of there, were on the floor completely smashed.

Like I said I'm an extremely light sleeper, there's no way I didn't hear that. I still have no explanation for what happened that night.

Do that pretty much wraps it up. If you have similar experiences, and explanation, or know why this is so common in Florida, please let me know, or just post your own stories.

Thanks for reading.

The Three Knocks of Death
>>
Cool story. I had a similar experience a few years ago, repeatedly in a house renting. In CT, old farmhouse that the owner converted into a sort of two family deal. I rented half the house with my roommate. The owner, single guy in his late 70s lived in the other half. Downstairs was a big living room with a wood stove that was our main source of heat. Upstairs was the two bedrooms, bathroom, and a sort of makeshift kitchen. For several months during our last winter there, something knocked on the second floor windows every few nights. Both of us and our girlfriends heard it. Really loud knocks, too, like we worried the window would break. We'd run to look, but there was never anyone there, no tracks in the show, no birds. Always after 2:30, and the knocks sounded very... intentional? For lack of a better term. Very firm, measured. Usually three knocks, but one night my gf at the time was over and it sounded like someone banging with both fists. Scared the shit out of us. We didn't have enemies, and it was a pretty rural neighborhood. I moved out, and my roommate said it continued for a few months after that and then just stopped.

Florida fag here, I've never experienced knocking on my Windows. The scariest thing to happen to me is when my bedroom light just turn off by itself

What you said about them being very firm and intentional is spot on. Super weird.

Well I don't plan on on inviting demons in any time soon, so they'll probably give up eventually.

Seems like there is some sort of phenomenon happening. Anything specifically weird about your experiences that stood out? Any inkling of an explanation?

I'd also like to add that the couple anons saying they're demon knocks trying to get in is unsettling, as in my last experience it seems they may have given the chaotic state of my room and my inability to wake up to it.

Weird. I live in Louisiana and I've had similar experiences. A few nights ago, around midnight I heard three knocks on my bathroom window and then a few seconds later three knocks on my actual bedroom window. I looked outside and saw nothing. It's weird to see that so many people have experienced this.

Odd i use to live in flordia before my parents split so i was visiting my dad cause he stayed in florida and i was about 9 or 10 at the time and was probably like 11:30 at night and i heard the 3 knocks on my window really hard and i ran to my dads room and he looked out there and there was no one. Florida is a weird place.
>>
>>17875176
That occurred to me, but then there would be tennis balls in the yard. I ran out immediately after hearing knocking, and there was nothing in the snow under or around the windows. Mind also, this was a very rural neighborhood with few neighbors, and the neighbors we did have were much older retired folks we simply never dealt with. I tried like hell for a "someone was just fucking with us" explanation, but nothing ever made sense. If it was someone playing a prank, props to them for being damned clever about it.
>>
Ive also had three-in-a-row very distinct unexplainable knocks on my window too.
It was dead of night and i was so startled, i instantly looked out the window and saw nothing. I sat in darkness in my living room staring out the windows buggin out. It happened twice. They were on the first story though.
Ive never had any other experience like this and it was a while ago, so chalking it up to delusions or schiz development just seems unlikely
>>
>>17874956
I've heard of the three knocks of death, my grandparents were very Gaelic and believed a lot of old world superstition.

When I've heard knocking, thankfully it's never been followed by death or more chaos than is usually in my life

I don't think it's a knock of death

I'm currently living in North Carolina. I've been hearing knocks on my window for a few weeks now. Usually around 1-3 am. A few times it would happen when my curtains were open so I know it couldn't of been anyone fucking with me.
>>
Thankfully I always keep my windows open so no one can knock.
>>
I've never lived in Florida, but something similar happened to me years ago when I was living in Pennsylvania. I was maybe like 13 or 14 at the time, and it was the morning after a friend had spent the night at my house.

We were both on the second floor in my room, and just barely waking up, when we heard three super loud, distinct bangs. It wasn't on the window, and it definitely sounded like something metal being struck. Looking back, the screen door didn't make that sort of noise when it was hit (it was a pretty flimsy piece of metal, but there was a wooden door behind it), but that was the first thing our minds jumped to, so we ran to my dad and told him what we heard. He went downstairs to make sure no one had tried to break in, and even checked the neighbor's yard (he had a metal dumpster at the time) to see if anyone was messing around over there, but there was nothing.

I still don't know what it was. With how loud and close it was, I figured there would have either had to have been damage to the door, or someone banging on the dumpster for no reason.
>>
>>17870944
Can you tell us the other stories about your haunted house.
>>
>>17878841
Yeah man.

Not sure if this is paranormal or not as there is zero studies on it, but a couple weeks after we moved in, my sister started having very vivid recurring nightmares about a young girl killing herself in the tub of the bathroom. Eventually she had the dream so much (almost every night for two years until she moved out) that she became lucid
But no matter what she did she was always just trapped in the room with the girl as she bled out from whatever the fuck she did.
Once when she came to visit after moving out she had to use that bathroom. She didn't know that since she had moved out the house the bathroom floor had started to warp due to moisture. So the door stuck really badly. She screamed like bloody murder until one of us helped open the door. It was hilarious.

Anyways, I had a friend we'll call P. Move in with us as his family was going through some hard times. He slept on the living room couch for over a year, it was basically his room. All the bedrooms were upstairs, and living room, kitchen, dining room, and utility room downstairs.
So apparently halfway into his stay he started hear stuff on the kitchen. Glasses clinking or moving(you could see the kitchen from the couch), cabinets opening and closing all the time, drawers too. One night he sat in the bathroom until it was time for school in the morning because he swore he was laying on the couch, just watching TV and the kitchen light was still on. He heard a noise that sounded like really ragged, moist breathing. He looked up at where the source was, which was the kitchen, and saw what he says looked like a white skinned Asian chick with long black hair peeking around the wall looking straight at him, and then duck behind the wall. He moved in with another friend not long after.

(Cont.)
>>
>>17880135
After he moved out I was getting to the point where sharing a room was no longer tolerable. So I started sleeping in the living room.
And to his credit the kitchen. Was indeed very noisy. I only ever physically saw a cabinet very lowly creep open. If I had seen an apparition I'd probably shit myself. Oh and the rolling bathroom door closed on its own for no reason once.

The interesting thing was that P never heard the story of when my sister lived there and the dreams she'd have. So I was kinda surprised when I as asked my sister what the girl she used to dream about looked like, and she was of course Asian.

So that was sorta weird.

Floridafag here. Never had three knocks, occasionally used to hear one loud THWACK that I blamed bugs for. Didn't sound right for a person hitting the window, I could tell it was something relatively small and moving fairly quickly. Not people throwing rocks, had privacy fence growing up and I never saw anything under my window.
>>
Another story about my current house to keep the thread from dying.
Me and my girlfriend at the time were leaving my house around 10 at night, nobody else was home. One of my bedroom windows faces the driveway, the other the side yard. I always leave the light on in my room, as I dont like to get home drunk and stumble over a bunch of shit, and so shady people will think someone is home.

So we go in my car and buckled up, and I was trying to find a station on pandora when the girlfriend says, holy shit, someone's in your house. I said, well we made sure all the doors are locked, that can't be possible. She is a quirky girl and treats pinky promises as law, and has never broken one, and she promises she saw a shadow of someone cross the blinds. So I take my knife out of the glove compartment, tell her to stay and let me know if she saw anything else, went inside and turned on every light and rechecked every door, nobody was inside. I even went as far as to peek on the attic, since she was so adamant she saw it. As I was peeking I jumped 3 feet when my phone rang. She had called and said she saw it again but it went towards the bathroom connected to my room. She's in full freakout mode right now, so I check my room again, and check the bathroom, and of course nothing.

She explained it as being so solid that it had to be right against the blinds for the shadow to look the way it did. Only thing is my bed is right against the window so it couldn't have been a person, as they'd have to walk through my bed.

Anyways I locked the front door back up,calmed her down, said don't worry about it, not like it's her house, and we watched the window for five more minutes before we left to go wherever we were going.

I got back at about 3:00 that night. Did my normal routine, fed the cat, kicked off the shoes, went in my room, and clicked on the light.
Which is when it hit me; I had left my light on before I left.
>>
>>17875688
This makes sense, I see this happen on my living room windows when the porch light is on and I can see outside, tons of big ass moths, crickets, frogs, and gisnt flying insects I don't know the names of banging into the window and it makes a noise. If it's a really big noise, maybe a bat flew into it?

This happened to me when I was about 14. Three knocks on my second story window. I lived in Pensacola, FL at the time.

>>
>>17870803

Simplest explanation is some crazy guy. Not sure why he would do any of that. But, that's also unlikely considering the other things you said happened.

There's a lot of huge fucking insects in Florida. Maybe there's something that only comes out at night during certain conditions and is supremely confused by modern buildings so it just tries to plow right through them. I did a minimal amount of googling about knocking on windows in Florida and found some other people saying they had similar occurrences with walls instead of windows.

It's entirely possible that it's some REALLY huge insect that spends most of it's time underground. Considering the infrequency of these occurrences, it has to be something really rare and therefore as of yet undiscovered. And, since it doesn't get out much, it doesn't understand what all these fancy buildings are doing in its way.

What were the conditions like each night? How was the weather? What time was it? What season was it? What years were they?

As for your stuff being out everywhere, that could be sleepwalking. I know you probably don't sleepwalk much, but stress can make it happen. And, the stress of having something BANG on your fucking window in the middle of night could be severe enough. It would also make sense that you would be searching your room in that sort of paranoid state. You were "looking" for the problem.

More interesting (and less likely) is a paranormal explanation. I believe there have been a lot of sightings of the Mothman in Florida. It's supposedly a harbinger of terrible things. It's not clear whether it brings them, follows them, or is trying to warn people of them. But, you say you stayed in some haunted places. Maybe it was trying to warn you. Or, just trying to get in on that shit.

The time when your stuff was everywhere would have been the Mothman warning you of whatever supernatural thing did that.

This was me. I'll give more details.

Like I said before, I was 14. I shared a room with 2 of my brothers and we all slept on the same large mattress on the floor (I grew up extremely poor). I heard the knocking sometime during the middle of the night. 3 knocks: DUM DUM DUM, then silence for several minutes, then the 3 knocks again. This went on for about 15 minutes: 3 knocks, then several minutes of silence, repeat.

Another interesting tidbit: I tried several times to wake up my brothers who were lying right next to me, but they could not be awoken no mater how hard I tried. It was like they were in some sort of a coma and the knocks were meant for only me to hear.

I cannot remember a time when I have ever been so terrified. I remember putting my hand on the curtains several times after the knocks and preparing to pull them back to see who/what was there, but I lost my nerve and never found the courage to do it.

It only happened that night but it was one of the horrifying experiences of my life.

What year? What time of year? What was the weather like?
>>
>>17884871
This was in 1999, mid summer. It was hot and muggy out (as is always the case for a Florida summer).

Pic related is the home in which it happened (red X). Also, not sure if related, but the trailer across the street (red circle) had a man named Charles Bingham. My mom dated him for two years. He was really big into fishing. He and both of his kids (Joseph and Sara) drowned while net fishing off the Pensacola coast. This happened about a year or so after the knocking though.

Central FL.
Might be bats.
>>
>>17884905

I figured it would be Summer. A Florida summer would definitely be the time for some huge insect to come out.

>>17884911

In the middle of the woods too.

>>17884942

I was thinking bats too. But, they should be able to "see" a huge house long before they get to it.

Does anyone know if perhaps glass has some sort of bad effect on their acoustics so they can't "see" it all that well? That would explain why it's usually windows.
>>
>>17884955

I lived in northern FL for 18 years and I never heard or saw any insect large enough to make those noises on my window. And again, these were loud, distinct and HARD knocks, not an insect lightly tapping on the window or a bird pecking.

The knocks always came in 3: about 1 per second. I'm not saying it was paranormal, but it definitely was not a bird or an insect.
>>
>>17884972

Unless it's something that only comes out at night in certain conditions. That's not at all unheard of.

I mean, there's a species of Cicada that comes out from underground once every 17 years. It's a fucking random number, and I have no idea why it's that. But, bugs do weird things. No one sees those Cicadas aside from when they come out. So, it's possible for them to hide.

And, you're doubting how large or fast of an insect I'm implying here. It could be some sort of beetle. Those fuckers can get huge and are very dense.

I'm also liking the bat theory too. Don't doubt how fast they can move too. Enough to cause the kind of sounds you're talking. Maybe there's a moth on your window. They can get big in Florida and they like to hang out on windows to absorb some of that heat or cold (depending on the season). Bats eat moths. They pick up on the fact that there's a massive moth on your window. They divebomb it. They miss. They try again. They miss again. Third time's the charm.

There's probably some strategy/counterstrategy interaction that happens between the moth and bat that's been evolutionarily learned over generations that causes the bat to miss twice and then succeed the third time.

let this thread die ffs no one cares

Given the paucity of evidence, I think there's no telling what this is. But I have an idea, but first let me say I think the idea of Death living in FL, USA, knocking on windows to see if anyone's ready to go is precious.

Anyway, I grew up in Indiana and my mother was bird crazy. She kept a bird feeder, religiously, had bird books, bird calendars, etc., etc. I thought it was cool when I was a tyke and learned a whole lot of geeky bird stuff, half of which I've forgotten and the other half of which I have to remember not to excitedly blurt in front of others at parties as if life is one big game of bird-themed Jeopardy!

Anyway, back to my mother and that bird feeder. She kept it until one day when the bird- birdocalypse happened. Someone's tomcat, or maybe a stray, or a dozen strays, decided to go nuts on the neighborhood birds. Maybe something else got to them. Whatever it was, there were bird carcasses everywhere around our neighborhood. I mean, littering the ground. Sparrows, wrens, jays, doves, you name it. My ornithologist of a mother noticed one disturbing trend: bird feeders. All the deaths happened around bird feeders.

Cont.
>>
>>17885318
cont.

So she stopped feeding them and she told every other bird lover she knew to plant certain bird-friendly plants and stop feeders except for the hummingbirds for some reason.

But this one bird TO THIS DAY (and it's been about 5 years) will come onto our window's ledge and peck to let us know that the feeder's empty. It's a female Jay.

Jays are corvids like ravins and blackbirds, and they are some of the smartest creatures with wings (excepting maybe parrots and winged cryptids I'm sure). Now while there's no saying for sure what's knocking at your door during the midnight dreary, I wouldn't rule out a bird.

And one thing about the sunshine state in particular and thereabouts is that it is home to tons of species that states with less warm climes don't see on the reg.

cont.
>>
>>17885345
cont.

So I'm not saying it's birds, but it's probably birds. And plenty birds are nocturnal and might try the same pattern of knocks for who knows what reason.

Then again, there are a billion other things it could be, like say air in your pluming, etc.

So weird for me to come upon this thread now. I live in Southern California near LA. 4 or 5 nights ago I went to bed at about 9:30 pm for a nap (baby was vampire nocturnal at that time. I normally would stay up with her until like 6am. So I left other parent to stay up with her until 11 or midnight). Anyway, I had only been just drifting up to sleep, and I heard a very distinct tapping on my window, like someone knocking with one knuckle. I suppose I could have been dreaming, as I was in that halfway state, but I remember being so scared that I willfully pulled myself out of sleep to go check. My window is blocked my my headboard, which is like 6 feet tall, so I ran to the next room, where I could get a better look. I am on the ground floor, and these windows face the street, but of course, nothing. Next morning I found nothing suspicious outside, but a bag of cheesy garlic bread. (I find a lot of shit in my front yard.)
So yesterday I took the kids to a relatives house, and told my spouse to take a nap. When I got back I asked how the nap was, and I was told
>I kept hearing bumps, like something bumping agains the outside wall. Does the dishwasher make noises like that?
No, it fuckign doesn't. We've lived here like 8 months, and I've only just recently been hearing bumps at night. At first they remind me of being back in the apartment
>oh it's just the neighbors
But then I realize that that isn't possible. I am afraid to check the attic. It's all very subtle stuff, but still slightly concerning.

Floridian here, lived here my entire life and I can say I've had weird shit happen a lot. Knocking on the window has happened to me, still does on occasion (Would excuse it as people outside but my house is on private property away from streets and not good for hiding around). Maybe animals or something but still.

Aside from that, just for the sake of story telling I'm 80% sure my house is haunted from a few events. First one I can remember was a time a friend was staying the night and complained about a white hand slapping the window in the bathroom (We have those weird brick sized warped glass windows, can't see unless something is touching the other side). Then when my family came home from vacation and the cousin who was staying we me took a picture in front of the mirror and a thin-ish bald white guy was walking behind them in the mirror. She may still have the picture, but this was in like 2007-9 or something. Last tidbit is apparently we have a Ouija board in the shed? I always was told we did as a kid but that shed was dark and full of spiders so I never checked. Might go out later and see if it is still in there, but that would explain the weird things.

Oh yeah two last things: Me and my little sister both hear things in our house a lot, shuffling, scratching, tapping, all sorts. Not very often but more than a few times all the animals were in sight while it happened. Plus I've seen what I think was a UFO, I believe it was 3-5 lights in the sky in a line, white, green, yellow, blue and red colors (No pattern I can remember), perfectly stationary aside from moving in line and repeating as if on a spinning disc. Gave me insomnia as a kid.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences so far. It seems like we've all heard the same exact thing.

To all those offering the bug and bird explanations, thanks as well, those were very thought out theories.

But as I'm sure everyone in this thread could tell you, it's for to loud and strong and perfectly measured to be either of those. Its not a tap, its more of a bag. I've seen several birds hit a window in my classroom when I was in highschool (hilarious). That wasnt even loud enough, and there would be three dead birds on my patio if that was the culprit.

I think its just one of those things you gotta be there for, but again thanks for the input.

I'm sure there are more of you this has happened to. If not, haunted house stories or weird experiences are cool.

i live in tennessee and have a similar story to op.

i was probably about 19-20 and had just moved back in with my mom who had just started renting a house out in the sticks. It was a small house, but on a steep slope and had a basement you could access from outside around back.

Due to the intense slope and the basement being like a story on it's own, my bedroom window on the side and back of the house was very high up ( 2 1/2 to 3 stories) compared to the front of the house.

One night probably between 11-1am, I'm hanging out playing videos games and sitting at my computer. All of a sudden I heard tapping at my side window probably about 3 knocks, not ferocious just regular knocks like trying to get someones attention. I think I was home alone at the time so it startled me and had me shitting my pants instantly but I tried not letting my imagination get the best of me and tried to ignore it. A couple minutes later I heard the same knock on my back window.

At this point I'm standing near the window trying to summon up the courage to lift up the blinds but just can't bring myself to do it because I was a big pussy at the time.

I stand at the window waiting for the knocking so that I can yank up the blinds as soon as it starts again, but a couple minutes pass with no noise so I sit back at my computer.

No more than a minute after I sit down, both windows start knocking erratically at the same time like someone is slapping them with both of their hands and I don't really remember much more. I don't think I ever actually looked out of my blinds though, my fear just kept me from doing it and eventually the knocking stopped I guess.

Ok so I had 1 other weird occurance at that house while my mom rented it.
I had the place to myself again one night, and I invited over a few friends. I was the only one with a vehicle at the time so I went and picked them up and they planned on sleeping in my living room overnight. We had all been smoking weed or drinking beers, or both, just hanging out being the young loners that we were.

The 3 of us are in the living room, my 2 friends are layout out on 2 seperate couches and I'm sitting near the hallway in a recliner. While we are in mid-conversation, I see a shadow out of the corner of my eye, it feels like someone just walked past me, and the floor creaked next to me like someone had stepped there walking down the hallway. I turn my head like say wtf, I look back at my friends and they are wide eyed everyone looking at each other like "DID YOU HEAR/FEEL/SEE THAT????!!!"

That's all that happened though. Not real interesting, sorry.

I've another story from when I was much younger at a different house but it is about as pointless as the past 2.

Have you ever watched Salem's Lot or Shiki? It's vampires asking to be invited in. Or it could be Santeria. I know someone that knows someone that practices it and says something will knock on his doors and windows at night like it wants to come in. He says it's a spirit.

As vampires are fake, maybe we'll just go with Santeria. Mostly because it happens to be a dope song.

I had something like this happen to me when I was like 12. Woke up to a constant tapping on my window. A loud tap every 2 seconds. I couldn't see anything, my blinds were down. I lost my shit and screamed for my dad, he came into my room and heard the tapping too. When he opened the blinds there wasn't shit there. This was in Colorado in the middle of winter. We could never explain the tapping, it never happened again.

It very much could be Santeria, right? Doesn't Florida have a lot of Cuban people? Maybe they brought it over with them.
