What are /x/'s thoughts on incense?
Not your hippie dimestore kind of incense or oils, actual resins and spices that have to be worked in a mortar and pestle for use in rituals of magick.

I've always used incense and been around incense as long as I can remember, but only recently have I begun grinding and mixing it myself. I've been curious about its placebo effects of aiding in concentration and divination, as well the more esoteric like how some conjurers believe that spirits they've contacted can use the smoke as a temporary corporeal form.

If /x/ has any personal experience with it or any resources addressing their usage and mixing I'd be greatly appreciative.

its not placebo, moron

That was my point, moron. I was mad at OP for using the word 'placebo'

Smell is a VERY powerful trigger / trigger-set for memory.
Nerve signals from the olfactory organ bypass the brain's 'filter'.

As far as use, it's not hard to find correspondence tables for this kind of thing.

How exactly would you be able to determine that frankincense relieves depression and anxiety in mice, let alone they were depressed or anxious in the first place?

By behavior. Anxious mice chew their tails or get in fights or whatever.
