Souls - living entities - are a part of the infinite energies of the Godhead. We exist because God exists, and God is infinite. To leave us out would limit His energies.
In Vaishnavism, there are three main categories of God's energy, or sakti.
Internal - cit/antaranga - the spiritual
Marginal - tatastha - living entities
External - bahiranga - the material
Marginal means the soul can shift between spiritual and material. It can choose to act under the influence of one or the other, or attempt to maintain a lack of action (merging with Brahmajyoti, ego-death).
The soul has three main qualities:
sat - eternal existence
cit - awareness/knowledge
ananda - bliss
