The ark of the covenant was a gilded wooded box claimed to have carried the 10 commandments and other holy objects during the exodus of the jews from Egypt. It was used as a holy relic during battles. It was captured by the Philistines who allegedly gave it back a few months later. It then disappeared when the Babylonians conquered Israel.

The egyptians were pretty good at keeping records. Yes, they had slaves, but there is no record of any large portion of Hebrew slaves, and they certainly didn't have their slaves build the pyramids. That was done by highly skilled and PAID workers. The Old Testament mixed (biased) tellings and interpretations of some real events in to try and give credibility to the bullshit.
Another thing you would know if you actually read up on any real history would be that Judaism's roots aren't even monotheistic, but henotheistic, meaning they believed in multiple gods, but picked on to worship exclusively. It wasn't until much later that they started saying that theirs' was the ONLY god.
Hate to break it to you, but I have studied the bible, enough that I could see it had many holes and contradictions, which led to my study of of history from other, more reliable sources.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest known written work. It was written around 2700 BC, and it is also the earliest story to mention the Flood. In it, the man was named Utnapishtim who built an ark after Enki warned him. He took his family, animals, and dozens of his fellow villagers (craftsmen and the like) onto the boat to survive it. He and his wife were granted immortality after as reward for preserving the seed of man. The rest of the details are as you know them.
More than a thousand years later, around 1500 BC, Moses plagiarized the flood story writing Genesis, changing details to fit the narrative he wanted to push with the Torah, as well as taking details from other earlier works and bastardizing them together. This alone makes it untrustworthy as any sort of source.
This isn't even touching on the fact that a complete global flood would be impossible, and boat or not, life would have ended shortly after with the exception of some sea life (and even most of them would die depending on how drastically saline content changed in the process. Much marine life is salt-water or fresh-water only). It is most likely an exaggerated story that was passed down orally for a long time before being written, and inspired by the vast flooding of certain regions at the ending of the ice age.
