>>
Whats the scariest/creepiest thing you encountered during your explorations, op?
>>
So, OP here. I started this thread last night. Going to head back now so I can continue it properly.

As for the questions:

Yes, I can get some limited access to the basement, but other sections are flooded, including where I suspect the morgue was.

I don't usually wear a mask, not because there's a lack of black mold, but because life is a nightmare and death is inevitable.

Some of my pictures are older, but I go there much too frequently.
>>
>>17829477
No, not really. I like to have all my senses when wandering around abandoned buildings by myself.

Probably my favorite pic here. Someone painted this in the attic of the oldest section of the hosptial, which is over 100 years old. (Been remolded several times over the years, however.)
>>
Cool thread. Ever have anything creepy happen or run into another group of people/hobos?
>>
Can you paint some cryptic designs on a wall? Like, make up some alphabet and throw on generic, spooky Satanic shit to freak people out?
>>
>>17831311
I'm usually the creepiest thing there, as I scarcely use a light, and always see people before they see me, but if I encounter a group, i usually give them a tour. Never met a hobo.
>>
>>17831330
I'll bring some paint next time and do that. There's a room with some chalk, though, so I'll use that in a bit to do something.

>>
>>17831445
Well, the story I've gathered from various news articles and blogs is that the owner started the process of renovations, then ran out of money. He decided to simply skip town, and stop paying property taxes. Which resulted in over $700,000 being owed on the place before it could be touched.

Couple that with the fact that it's in a small, poor, town, and basically, no one wanted it. Now it's in such poor condition it's almost certain to be condemned when someone buys it.

neat shit anon, there's an abandoned hospital near to where I live but it's typically too crowded (1-2 groups of people there at any one time) it was abandoned due to asbestos. govt is also trying to restore some of it, so while it is still interesting to find entrances in to the buildings and walk around, the experience is lacking when groups of teens or workers are walking around, even at night. post reception area if possible

Spokomptpn fag, not entirely urban exploring but right off of Kendall Yards down the way from the sentenial trail, there is an old Pet Cemetery, as well as an altar that appears to have been used for some sort of creepy worship. Also there is a "devils den" that's location escapes me, even the hobos tweakers avoid that place. If I remember correctly it's a series of old rail road tunnels, but it's all essentially in a big triangle in that area.

Thanks, man! It really makes me happy to hear that people are enjoying this thread.

I've done urbex for about three years now. I'd say you don't need much, aside from clothes you don't mind getting messy, especially pants and longsleeved garments, a backpack, with wd-40, duct tape, and some minor tools, and maybe a knife. Obviously a flashlight. I prefer dim lights, mostly because while you need light to see, light is also what gets you seen.

Now, i'm pretty comfortable at old reid, so I usually just bring a weapon, some cheap cigars, and my phone. Started wearing a blazer lately to fuck with peopld.

Feel free to look at sattelite images of the place, the address is 1401 Chester Blvd, Richmond, IN 47374.

But the area is a small, rather poor city, it sits on a major road, maybe a mile from the meagre downtown area, which mostly consists of business built in the renovated husks of old warehouses, once used as depots and warehouses to hold goods produced by the local factories to be loaded onto trains.

The road it sits on has constant traffic, at all hours. Directly adjacent are some smaller clinics with various medical specialties. You'll notice nearby, should you look this place up on a map, is a retirement home. The strip of forest between there and the building has a surprisingly well-hidden path, that I use to enter frequently. From there, the ground slopes down rapidly, so much so that the retirement home is nearly level with the tower.

I linked a website above, called UER.CA It has a few resources to get you into Urbex. If you go there, and click "DB Map" you can use it to find nearby locations. Other than that, just go for the occasional drive about, see what's around.

As for animals and junkies, fear and reapect. They are often as scared, or more, of you, than you are of them. If you are the terror, what power do they have over you? I used to wear a mask, a creepy one, to remind myself of that.

The other half is respect, both for the other person/ animal, and for your enviroment. People need light to see, therefore use as little light as possible so you can avoid being seen, and so you can see yourself.

Animals, well, unless you live in an area with large, dangerous carnivores, simply give them a large berth, if you spot something. Be aware of the tracks on the ground, and of noises you hear. Chances are, it's not a demon or a goblin, but a racoon or dog.

Well you can check that off the bucket list!

Ever have any moments that made you consider leaving while you were exploring?
>>
>>17842256

Heh, I'm poor as fuck, and live in the midwest. There's a lot of things I'd do a kickstarter for before SCUBA gear.

Besides. I don't like begging.

If I get around to it later I'll post some things. Most of my pics are way too big to post as I use semi-pro gear and it's a pain in the ass for me to resize a ton of it.

I've urbexed in Minnesota, Wisconsin, UP, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Colorado, and Tennessee. Gonna head to Massachusetts and New York next year hopefully. From Oregon, but I get out that way 3 or 4 times a year. No urbex on the west coast to speak of. Too much money so things get torn down almost immediately.

Regardless, tell your friends to stop wearing cat burglar shit. It makes it hard for the rest of us.

For people asking how to into urbex, the very best advice I can give is to make sure you dress like a complete and total dork (unless you're purposely trying to break into a place that is guarded/monitored). I've been busted maybe a dozen times and never once got fucked with because I look like a gearfag from /p/ wearing brightly colored outdoors gear and a goofy headlamp. Most people can tell what your intentions are just by looking at you and talking to you for a second.

No bodies but I was in a building in Detroit where they had found a homeless guy frozen in the elevator shaft a couple weeks before. That was the story anyway. There's a hospital in Detroit that if it didn't contain a body or two I'd be surprised, but large sections are blocked off by debris and I generally don't go places that I don't think are fairly safe or put myself in situations where I don't have a clear out.

There are sections of the old hormel plant in St. Louis that I also had a feeling some dead homies might be hanging around.

Do you bring NVGs / Weapon when you go?
>>
>>17842290

Four times. I'll list them chronologically.

1st. Sitting on the roof, watching netflix. Know for a fact I am alone, at least on the roof. Sitting next to a ladder. Pebble pings off an arm of the ladder right next to my head. Hard. No one nearby. Didn't end up leaving till much later because human error. Maybe I knocked a pebble off or something and it hit the ladder further down, making the ladder reverberate, and produce a disproportionate sound.

Second time, I was with a friend, when a van pulled up to the building. It stopped at a couple points, in an arc, and so we moved to intersect. We started walking up, and we could see one light bobbing around an entrance to the hosptial, van still running. Objects were being thrown around almost frantically, and my friend called out a greeting. Whoever it was was working so quickly and hard that they didn't hear him. That got my hackles up, so I stopped my friend, and we slunk back into the building, to the second floor, to watch whoever it was leave. Didn't leave that time either, as the possible threat was gone.

Third time, was about a week ago. I was sitting in the tower, which overlooks the courtyard, when I hear the distinct sound of urination. I freeze, and keep listening. It ends, and I hear loud, clumsy footsteps, like those of a human, crunching glass and bits of debris, heading into the building under me. I decide to invesitgate, because whoever it was wasn't using a light. This is something I often do, so it made me curious. After the steps fade into the building, I go to a flight of stairs which is on an outside wall, on the opposite side of the building. I was going with out a light, and moving as quietly as possible, while stopping frequently to listen. Which means I was going slow. I hear noises on the other side, outside, about where someone would exit if they were to travel straight through where I heard them enter. Again, no light, loud, clumsy steps.

Don't know what WH is. Hayswood hospital and an old tb ward outside louisville (that's what I think it was anyway) and other random smaller shit.
>>
>>17842324

Cont. then on to pics of the theatre.

As I reached the last few steps leading into the ground floor, I hear steps entering the building in a room nearby. I pause outside the door, and wait for someone to open it, but the footsteps stop. I'd assumed I'd made a noise, so I simply waited for them to restart. It didn't happen, so I poked my head in. (Cautiously) The room, thanks to moon light, was well lit. Broken glass and random junk was all over the floor, but besides that, it was empty. No other doors led deeper into the building. The way outside were only the tall broken windows, with glass all around. I decided it was a good night to go to bed early.

Now, I'm off to the theatre.

Door leading into the theatre. Obvious fire damage. According to old papers, it was likely a hobo fire gone out of control, due to the discovery of bedrolls and cans of food.

Kinda cool graffiti. Someone had originally just sort of wiped away the soot on the wall to make it. More recently, it seems someone chose to trace it in paint.

Exactly how legal is this?
If it is illegal how do you avoid getting caught?
Best places to do it/places to avoid?
Have you ever come close to/been caught by law enforcement?
Am I just a pussy?

>mfw I'm in Indiana for the summer

Where would one park to check this place out? Is there cop/security coverage?
>>
>>17843167

Alot of this depends on the site you want to explore.

Reid hospital is owned by the city, meaning the land is technically public, to my understanding. It is not marked off with any "No tresspassing" signs, etc.

The police, like the one I posted earlier, will warn off anyone they spot, and demand that they leave. However, should you refuse, they cannot enter the hospital.

But that's only true for this place in particular. Just do your research, you know?
>>
>>17843247
No, nay, never.

Nothing seen or heard that couldn't be explained away.

I'd reccomend Sylvan Nook church, a short walk away from the place. I'll post a pic later of the hidden path. Or, you can get in touch with me in the email I provided earlier ( [email protected] ) and I can give you some other ideas, and possibly arrange to give you a sort of "tour"
