why is it bad to sleep with a mirror in front of your bed?

When I was growing up, my aunts told me not to look into mirrors at night (this would include their compact mirrors)
One time I think I saw a ghost infront of my hallway mirror at night but that same person would be there every night so it probably wasn't anything at all
I do look into mirrors in the dark if I have something stuck in my eye but I don't deliberately stare into them anyway
