A slightly odd idea - I was wondering how much relevance we put on the name of a horrific creature, and how the name of a creature relates to the fear we feel.

So, what would you say is the scariest name that you have seen attributed to a monster? Why do you find it unsettling?

People renamed the bear in some places in the middle ages because of superstition that calling them by their then-current name would attract them.

Bear means "brown one". Their original name was something like arctos.

The original name was "artko." People thought that if you said the name, the bear would understand and come to his calling.
