Why did Egyptians worship cats?

Cats are cute
Look at the internet, people worship cats now.

>cat people don't like to go out
>egyptians had slaves and didn't need to do anything but look at cats all day
>cat is love, cat is life
In all seriousness, a guide in a museum once suggested that the most likely explanation is that houses with cats had less disease-transmitting vermin, so they became associated with health and happiness, so everyone decided to get one and thought they were sacred furballs.
They ate rats. The rats would bring disease and eat the people's food. Cats controlled the problem. Cats are celebrated and given they key to the city. The "key" is actually huge ass statues placed everywhere and worship as deities. Cats don't give a fuck, go back to eating rats.

>>egyptians had slaves
Some, but they weren't a slave state like Rome or Sparta.
People that watch TV seem to envision masses of whipped slaves dragging blocks of stone around all day. Not how things were done, pyramids built by locals and artisans during flood season.

it was a joke, I'm aware that it wasn't actually like this, slaves couldn't be trusted with complex things like a pyramid. Also, apparently there's no record of the jews ever having been enslaved there. Funny how these things work.

SHUT IT DOWN!
Because they have to be gods. They sleep all day and stay in shape and they scratch, bite and bitch at us humans and yet we feed and love them.

Be around cats and you'll see why.
They used to be worshiped as gods.
And they haven't forgotten it.
>>17775589
heh, kitters.
>>17775284
Two of their gods were catgirls. Most of the cat worship was in association with them.

FEAR ME.
Guardians of the Underworld kiddo

living of other than of bugs/insects. living of other than of spiders. living of other than of vermin/rats/mice.
Felidae are a relic from Mars, so cats were sacred as living symbols of the First Times.

FTFY
the ancient egyptions believed that death/reaper was terrified of cats
they kept them as kind of bodyguards
>>17775284
They didn't have Jesus
Because they were edgy like that.
I don't think they actually did. I think they just thought cats had the ability to ward off evil and death. Sort of like the Celts and dogs. Or certain Native Americans and their various animals thought to do the same stuff.
Because cats are the best thing ever.
>>17775589
They become feral within a single generation I doubt they remember much of anything.

Here's a cool myth I read that may or may not have happened.
Back before humans came, cats ruled the earth. They had humanoid form and walked and built their society . Over centuries they began getting lazy and stopped being productive, they just laid around and did nothing, as cats do.
God was angered by their complacency, and so he destroyed them. As punishment, they were forced to incarnate as house pets for humans. This explains their holier-than-thou attitude and how they look down at us as their pets.
I think it may be true but I don't know. Cool story anyways

this. they were respected animals and given the same protections as livestock but that's about it. if the egyptians worshipped every animal that shared a form with one of their gods they wouldn't have time for anything else.
they guard the gate to hell. aka the front door to the biggest remains of the seed ship heyana that landed here in the first inter galactic war described in the valramila .
Because shut up
