I like those too, although I've kind of gotten bored of the ones that are just straight mock-ups of possible EAS messages. There's one guy called shelter345 that actually uses the format to tell a story, usually with some kind of conspiracy going on, and I find that very entertaining.
The video of that phone call from the top of one of the world trade towers from this guy named Cosgrove. The building fell while he was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher and you could hear him scream for a second or two as the building collapsed before the phone was cut off.
That left a lasting impression with me.

The sound was frustrating... it was definitely not in-mic but mixed later... that ruined it for me, the moment the "boom" came that was supposed to trigger her bloody nose... The Finger Family videos. They are all very similar to another, but they get millions of views each. The comments are always filled with random, one-letter posts and poorly-written generic thankyous.
My initial guess was that this is all just the work of some comment and video-generating bots, but something makes me doubt that. Each video has a unique, non-synthesized voice singing the finger family theme.
If these videos are meant to cheaply capitalize on trendy IP's, then why would they all contain unique voice acting? And why is the voice acting only used to repeat the same lyrics over and over again?

To this day, the Kevin Cosgrove tape is the only thing I've ever sworn to myself to avoid hearing again at all costs. That's a bit melodramatic, yes, but the feelings evoked by that audio call for a bit of overreaction at the very least. you're not alone in that. few things are more unsettling than being home alone and either hearing that siren and/or voice from the local EBS speakers or from a weather radio, or TV, or whatever. some co-workers and I were in our office a couple of weeks ago and we suddenly heard the voice from the EBS speaker, not quite close/loud enough to make out its words and each of us got so creeped out we had chills.
Horror films used to be my favorite genre, mostly because I loved laughing at the horrible acting and the cliches that were present in all of them, especially the ones made in the 70s. However, once I saw "The Grifter," that all changed. I can't watch another horror film without being scared shitless anymore--last one I saw in theaters was "The Cabin in the Woods" and all my friends laughed at me because I actually ended up walking out of the theater to go sit in my car outside while they finished.

I think its because I grew up in the 80s and I was so so terrified of nuclear war. Every EBS test, every "special report" on the news I was sure was an announcement of the bombs falling. And those super bleak, basic fonts on the screen...it's just so mechanical and robotic. Hate it.

That makes sense, yeah. I wasn't born until 87, so I missed the entirety of the cold war fear type stuff. I do think that footage of things like the OKC bombings and Waco affected me permanently in the fact that I'm very easily creeped out by the lower-quality type video that those events were captured on. Still doesn't explain why I find the EBS unsettling in the same way, I guess.

I think a big part of it is that it's so impersonal. There are terrible things going on, but you're being told about it by a mechanical, robotic voice (or just text on a screen), preceded by a jarring and discordant sound. There's no human being there to make some kind of connection with you or to give you any kind of reassurance.

Looking at it in that way, it isn't difficult to imagine the worst case scenario taking place (awful storm, tornado, whatever the case may be) and as you're in danger of/in the process of being hurt or killed, that voice would still be there, monotonously and dispassionately reminding you that there is something bad happening.
