Currently trying to find an english subbed version of Baskin, a turkish horror movie with a good reputation. Got the movie but it's in turkish so I can't watch it... What are some good movies that did scare you or was interesting ?

The Conspiracy is a decent one. Its on Netflix. Its about two filmmakers doing a documentary about a local conspiracy theorist who they saw on the internet rambling about "9/11 was an inside job!". They do their initial interviews with him, record him in the streets telling civilians all about different goverment cover ups, etc. He shows them an online anonymous chat room he goes on where he talks to other conspiracy theorists. He ends up missing, the filmmakers cant find him online or in person. He "disappears" after looking into a secret organization, The Tarsus Club. What follows is one of the filmmakers becoming obsessed with finding out the truth and the other being dragged along. Its a pretty good movie and definitely worth the watch.

Plus Juan.

Baskin was a genuine pleasure for this old time horror head, a throwback to the era when horror movies didn't always make sense or have airtight plots but at least they went for the gusto on visuals and atmosphere. It helps that I lived in Turkey for a year and found its characters realistic and accurate.

If you haven't seen The Survivalist check that out. It's not horror, per se, but it hit me pretty hard and was very tense. Also thought The Boy was decent, if a bit formulaic. The one about the dummy, not the one about the little sociopath. Also Southbound is worth a watch. Nothing fantastic but a far better omnibus film overall the uneven and disappointing VHS flix.

Hush or They Look Like People on Netflix are low budget but pretty decent. It Follows was in theaters I believe, it's good. Older movies: Cannibal Holocaust, A Serbian Film - both really twisted.

That experience really resonates on my head because i remember how psychologically disturbed/disgusted i felt while watching it. It seemed pretty good anyone can tell me if the whole thing is worth watching?

I saw a trailer for a movie where a crazy homeless guy knocks on this family's door asking for a job and they turn him away. He comes back all cleaned up and gets a job and shit hits the fan. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I've not watched it in a while, but it's pretty good from what I remember. I also recommend the movie May by the same writer.

>The Conspiracy

this is a bad movie for the simple reason that the ending is completely stupid and doesnt even work within the world of the film itself, let alone, in terms of general film or real world logic. it's sloppy and lazy.
>>
>>17737085
This is pretty good.
>>
>>17743687
Really? I personally liked the ending, and how they showed it was manipulated to the benefit of Tarsus. Not bashing your opinion, but why'd you think the ending was sloppy/lazy? It incorporated it well for an unknown indie film.

Not the same anon, but I didn't particularly care for the ending of this movie either. Like most found footage style films, they have to come up with some excuse for why we are seeing this footage in this first place. in this film, the gimmick is just as dumb as in most of these kinds of movies. But, it's made worse by the fact that at the end they reveal that, "oh, just kidding. it was all a prank, guys. relax." Why would they have done that? Why would the secret society reveal itself? The more likely scenario would have been that the group would have just killed these dumb fucks. end of story.

>>

Borgman.
Awseome film. You should watch it.
>>
>>17743765
I thought it was more or less, the other member of the film crew still had the footage amd proof they went, so they had to have an out option at least. Kill the main guy, and keep the hesitant one alive. Seemed simple to me. The ending probably was also created so the movie was more thriller/horror elemental like the movie was intended to be other than a faux-documentary found footage movie.
>>
>>17741312
I'd say Cannibal Holocaust was crazy because of the controversy. Never saw a Serbian Film. The acts were just a little too fucked up for me to take interest.
>>
>>17743839
Sorry but I don't even understand what you're trying to say although i respect your right to say it. It seems to me that found footage movies like these are now a diamond dozen. The gimmick is played out.

So a film that slipped through the cracks for a longggg time for me, but turned out to be a pretty strange movie (although I was on LSD when I watched part of it, so maybe that's why) was Running Scared. I had never heard of it being the type of movie it is, I just assumed it was a run of the mill thriller, but it turned out to be pretty good. Anyone else have any thoughts about it?

It's purposely meant to be fake, you understand this right?

The movie was never trying to do the whole "based off of true events" thing; from the beginning it was obvious it was fake.

Just because it has a "found footage" POV doesn't mean it's a "found footage" movie.

I'm looking for a desolate, echoing, huge industrial stuff-kind of atmosphere. Ever since the huge vault door from portal 2 Im hooked to that shit

i know what you mean, like that too.
you find that more in games than in movies.

a bit obscure but try reading the Blame!-manga, it has a very distinct atmosphere of huge empty architectural structures.
the akira manga also manages to scratch that itch with the huge underground complex and mysterious shit going on, way better than the movie IMHO.
