/x/ why do time travelers always claim to be from the future and not the past?

I mean, if you can travel through time couldn't you come from the past?

You should read "The Time Machine" by H.G. Wells.

There was a movie, too.

Most people think the premise is inconsistent because no one factually claims to have a time machine as of yet.

Because it's easier to say you're from the future and answer questions with shit like 'lol can't say cuz continuum' than it is to actually read up on history and be knowledgeable enough to answer questions. Sage because roleplaying goes on /trash/

The only reason we don't see time travelers is that there was some cataclysm between now and then that offset all their coordinates to a now alternate version of history. We had one chance and we blew it. Our future is dead.
>>
OP, I think you mean "further in the past than the span of a human lifetime"
Otherwise, every single person, creature, and object is traveling into the future.
Also, forward-direction time travel is ABSOLUTELY possible, you just have to be moving at relativistic speeds to do it. If a man gets in a spaceship and travels near lightspeed for 40 years, then turns around and makes the same trip back to earth at the same speed, he'll get out of the capsule and nearly all of his friends will be dead, and human society will have had 80 years worth of progression... but the man will only have experienced a few weeks worth of time in the capsule. He will be the same chronological age he was (in terms of years) when he started the journey, assuming he was traveling fast enough.

So theoretically we're time travelers?
>>
>>17724951
Travelers of both time and space to be where we have been
>>
>>17724967
Wow, we're fucking time travelling. How cool are we, we don't even need a time machine

And you don't need a hammer to pound a nail in, but the moment you have to pound 100 nails in that hammer is gonna look awful tempting isn't it?

In physics, a given dimension is one-dimensional, that is a straight line. Time is one dimensional.

To lift one kilogram one meter above the ground requires 1 newton. This newton is stored as potential energy, and dropping it causes it to convert that potential energy into kinetic energy when it hits the ground.

To move something in the Time dimension requires energy. Like the three spacial dimensions, Time is bent by mass. You could imagine 'Moment Zero' as resting at the center of the location of the big bang - it takes energy to get off the temporal ground.

Eventually, everything returns back to Moment Zero, as it loses energy like a thrown ball. This creates a closed timelike loop, as the ball gets thrown again and repeats it's arc.

If you go far enough into the future, you wind up in the past. But from their perspective, they're from the future - as long as they aren't from directly behind you in the loop.

because the assumption is that nobody's built a working time machine yet, but that one will be built in the future

also they're too busy being befuddled by all this newfangled shit to even consider turning on the lightning box and posting an AMA on a bhutanese snake charming forum

Plus, if a caveman accidentally time traveled to the future, he wouldn't know how to fuckin post on 4chan, not even a dude from the Rennaisance would know how to do that.

What if two youths taught him how, you know. Like in encino man?
>>

it sounds silly but I have actually daydreamed a lot about this over the years. meeting some time traveler from the past and having to figure out simple ways to explain to him how things work nowadays.

This sounds very copy pasted from that Morgan Freeman-show. Is it?

Not hating, just asking,
