krapus had a shitty story but it was nice how it seemed like a christmas comedy and descended into some pretty scary monsters if not a pretty bad plot
Watched Banshee Chapter yesterday. It's okay. The suspense is crafted well-enough, but the manner it's presented becomes repetitive and the highly interesting subject material (Project MK Ultra) is somewhat wasted when the plot shifts onto a more standard paranormal premise.
The influences and references are also a bit too on-the-nose for my taste. It's like the director didn't trust her audience to see the inspiration taken from the H.P. Lovecraft story or the ersatz Hunter S. Thompson character without addressing it directly.
Katia Winter is decent. She does well in the scenes where her characters is being more thoughtful or investigating, but she seemed disjointed during scenes where she needed to me more emotive. Her anger and sadness felt overly-rehearsed and loaded.
The movie is short though, and worth a watch if you don't mind some of the sloppiness. Ted Levine does his part well, and the visual design of the scares is pretty creepy.
