>Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”
John 18:36

Read your Bible, pal.

>We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
1 John 5:19

>And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
Ephesians 2:1-3

The “sons of disobedience” are those who have not trusted Christ as Lord and Savior (read also Acts 26:18; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 13:12).

This "god of the world" who has blinded the minds of the unbelievers is Satan, not Christ. He (Satan) is also described as the "prince of the power of the air" in Ephesians 2:2 >>17707953 and as the "ruler of this world" in John 12:31.

The rules of the matrix are not effected by our personal opinions or emotions they just are.

I think this is the fastest I've ever seen a thread derail...

Everyone gets hurt at some point. And, when they do, if their body doesn't act quite right, then you know something's up. Remember that every individual part of the The Thing is its own organism. Even its blood. Even the blood that it bleeds will try to survive. The illusion will fall apart if he gets hurt, even a small scrape.

And, if you see a person who is desperately afraid of even the slightest injuries, you've got yourself a thing... Or a pathetic man-child.

>ÆLIAN

You are making the assumption that these people understand Christianity and have the fear of God, when you are on an occult board and the people most likely will have no fear of God or hell.

They are saying you are vague because you are imposing your emotions and love of God and fear of hell, along with personal knowledge of the truth onto them.

They have to experience something that gives them the fear to understand it. Like seeing God move in this world by bringing destruction.

People are going to keep saying you are vague, unless you can relate it on a level they can understand.

I'm sorry, but if your god wanted anyone to understand, he could have started by making his seminal work concise, non-cryptic, and maybe, just maybe, have been able to describe his creation with a little more accuracy than the earth being flat and bats being birds.

If a book reads like it was written by man with limited knowledge, maybe that should tell you something...

I think the idea behind it was, beings created first had no appreciation for the perfect reality.

So the imperfect beings were created so that they would experience the lesser reality to appreciate the ultimate reality.

Some people think, the imperfect beings were created just to give them something to say and talk about in the ultimate reality.

Some people would also say, creation is a simulation to give God people worthy to talk to.

It's a jumping off point.

My question about The Thing is what would happen when it takes over an entire planets biodiversity? Does it reach critical mass and become something like the Brethren Moons (Dead Space)? I think that is the most likely scenario. The Thing was heavily inspired by H.P. Lovecraft horror novels. That's where the Brethren Moons idea came from as well.

Or how about the problem with filling a text with allegory and parable, as well as actual accounts, but no clear way to discern which is which? Did god actually turn Lot's waifu into a pillar of salt? How about the tale of Jonah?

If we take those as parable, how can we draw the line and say that the entirety of the story of Jesus isn't also a parable?

No. If your god is real, and the bible is his word, then he is a flawed and shitty communicator, and thus far from perfect, and at that point, is he even worth your praise? If you think so, then you have low standards, friend.
>>
>>17708407

I find Dead Space to be a poorly made game and horror experience, so I don't know much about the Brethren Moons. But, it's not clear if The Thing has to feed/eat at all. If I had to give a guess, I would say it doesn't. It's probably copied some plant life or something similar to it and can photosynthesize. And, if it can't yet, it will be able to once it's eaten everything.

I wonder why it went to Earth. Was it just an accident? Did it think that the small amount of itself that it sent would be enough to take over the planet? I mean, theoretically, it wasn't wrong. That still seems cocky, though. Or, did it crash at Earth by completely random chance? That's a pretty important question to answer in order to know whether or not it NEEDS to feed and thus what it would do after it's eaten everything.

Ok I guess to give you an example you might have more context to would be a comparison to the critical mass of a Gravemind Flood form. Something like that is what I am referring to. Where it develops a final hyper intelligent collective mind.

If you watch the John Carpenter The Thing I believe that the spacecraft has some sort of problem and crash lands. It could be the final desperate measure of the aliens that owned the ship? Like Macready and black guy burning down and blowing up the entire base at the end. Could it have been some sort of bio weapon? Want a planet? Send down the virus, it infects everything, send down the cure, everything turns to dust. Did you ever read the script for the mini series that they were going to do? It was pretty interesting. Sad to see they never ran with it.
>>
>>17708514

Bioweapon seems like the most likely scenario. The act of invading a planet just doesn't seem necessary for The Thing. It doesn't really get much out of it. Unless it just likes biodiversity for the sake of itself.

I feel like wasting all the plant life would be a bit wasteful of any invading species, though. Plus, it's implied The Thing was frozen for a pretty long time. Why not send a second weapon when the first one has clearly failed or at least is inconveniently delayed?

As for the first question, I think if it didn't need a disguise, it wouldn't use one. So, once it had won, I think that it would definitely just sort of become whatever horrible amalgamation of everything it felt like being. Like it does when it wants to seem threatening/feed quickly.

Wasn't there a The Thing video game? I know I've heard about it before. Never played it though. If it exists, it would be a super old computer game. Like, "I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream" kind of old.
>>
>>17708485
Can you prove this with a signed, dated, and notarized document that can be recognized in a court of law?
>>
>>17708558
I suppose that's pretty accurate. I believe they said it had been trapped some 100,000 years or so. It would make sense to just send another one if they wanted to. Or maybe like you said, it was an accident.

And there was a Thing video game. I remember getting it for Christmas when I was I think 13 or 14 (I'm 28). It was a Playstation 2 game. I remember being fuckin stoked cause I was (still am) a huge fan. What did you think of the prequel? I felt fairly disappointed. Felt like I was watching a remake.

I think it was implied that it's sort of a mindless creature that only simulates intelligence, and doesn't actually process 'thoughts', as it's just a collection of single-cell organisms working together. It's kind of similar to the Alzabo from Book of the New Sun, an alien that gains the 'mind' of its victims after consuming them, but it's just an evolutionary adaptation that helps them to lure and trap prey, so they're not actually intelligent beings.

It's like that Chinese Box thing.

Anyway, this means that we would have noticed signs of this kind of thing by now, as it needs to physically digest creatures in order to become them, and can't process clothes. Also, since its individual cells are alive by themselves, someone would have noticed them by now.
>>
>>17708595

I don't think I ever saw it.

>>
>>17708485

Everyone thinks their god is the correct one.
>>
>>17708607

Well, it doesn't digest the person and then become them. It becomes the person from the inside. It systematically replaces every cell in the body until the body is now The Thing. So, it wouldn't need to replace clothes. The clothes would still be on the body that is now The Thing.
>>
>>17708615
You are both right. Its digestion method just makes the process a lot faster. But one cell could still take over an entire host.

>>17708608
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thing_(video_game)

It was definitely worth a couple playthroughs. Lots of spoops and adrenaline. You have to test members of your team for the virus. Test yourself so they trust you more. Give them weapons to up their trust as well. Until one of the turns. Lol. It was great fun.

>>
>>17708681
No, The Thing was based on a 50s sci fi movie that was based on a story called "Who Goes There", by John W. Campbell.

Mountains of Madness is just where John Carpenter got a lot of his thematic inspiration. I still wish we could get a direct adaptation of it. I still believe that Guillermo Del Toro could do it justice, but it'dl cost a lot.
