I just checked and it looks like it started freezing around 23 million years ago when the straight formed between it and south america, separating it from the continent. By 15 million years ago it was completely frozen.
It's so interesting to think how it would have changed the political landscape if it was still temperate. Imagine a whole new area to colonize, and a bit more space to expand a bit longer.

This isn't really a thing.
Wildest possibility could be ruins from a prehuman intelligent race. It was temperate som 23-24 million years ago. Deinonychus was around about 100 million years ago and that has a lot of the basic body structure needed to start a civilization on. It took only about 60 million years for mice to turn into us, so if there has ever been a non-human civilization here any remaining evidence will be buried in the ice there.

Been frozen over for 150 million years
Before it got cold it was a jungle, so there might be interesting things below the 1.5 miles of ice, if there are any caves, that much ice tends to pulverize anything below it
I read somewhere that if you raised the global temperature to a constant 90 degrees with no day/night cycles and no seasons it would take Antarctica anywhere from 1 to 10 million years to completely melt, raising the worldwide sea levels by about 200 feet
Before South America broke away from Antarctica the Earth had a pretty constant global temperature, jungle from pole to pole, when the breakaway occurred it allowed Antarctic waters to circulate as they due now, and this helped to change the global temperature

It took Captain Cook, captain of the Queen's own navy, 3 years to sail "around" the globe. This does not make sense on a ball, but it makes perfect sense if on a flat plane earth.
Until the international Antarctic treaty is abolished, no non-establishment figure or organization can verify with their own senses how long it takes to traverse the entire coast of Antarctica. That's why the military and the powers that are want you to not explore down there. They are afraid you will discover this.

His goal was to go around antarctica. We are told that antarctica is 11,000 miles in circuference which is 1/4 the circumference of the globe earth yet it took Captain Cook 3 years also to do what he did.
250 years later, shipping technology equal or exceeding Magellan's, a voyage which according to the reported circumference of Antarctica (11,000 miles) should have take a fourth of the time as Magellan took instead an equal amount of time (3 years).

If you look at the map, anon, Captain Cook didn't just circumnavigate Antarctica. He crossed the entire world, not terribly unlike Magellan, except he travelled much further than Magellan, crossing the pacific twice, sailing from the North Atlantic to the South Atlantic and back again, doing large loops, and it all makes perfect sense on the globe model of the earth. He covered much more mileage than Magellan, but he was a little faster in doing it since he had a better ship and was a better navigator. Still, he was subject to the winds, to currents, to the doldrums, and so on.
As a matter of fact, since this is James Cook we're talking about, he kept a log of every day that he was on that ship, and every day is accounted for, and you can read it and it all makes perfect sense. Furthermore, he recorded navigational data every step of the way, latitude and longitude and so on, and the only way THAT makes any sense is if the earth is round. Cook's voyages prove the globe of the earth.

With modern technology you can have people on Antarctica, and in fact there are 1000 to 4000 people there (number changes depending on the season). I don't see a reason to colonize it at the moment but it's totally possible that one day it'll have a lot more people. The Polestar cannot be seen further than 20-25 degrees beyond the equator. In the Southern Hemisphere they use the Southern Cross to navigate. Made a map of that for the last thread.

The analemma is an abstract figure-eight shape drawn by the sun over the year. It is a lovely astronomy project that absolutely anyone can do.
Grab a camera - some sort of light filter like polarized lens would be best but you do you, don't want anyone to think I'm fooling them. Even better is if you can get some sort of grid to appear over the pics.
Set it up in a stable, fixed position. Now every day at the same time for a year, take a picture of the sun from that fixed position. What you will find is that for each day of the year, the sun at noon or 3pm or whatever time you choose will be in a slightly different place.
If you do this for the whole year, then draw a line between all the points, it makes a lopsided figure eight. But the distortion of the eight will change depending on where you are on the map. For instance, pic related is the analemma from Antarctica.
