What video games would be considered /x/-core? Are there any spooky video game stories out there that haven't been creepypasted to death yet?
>>17682494
Bloodborne is great if you're into Lovecraftian themes/stories
>>17682509
Yeah, the visuals story telling is pretty outstanding there, can be both subtle and very in your face about it in a good way.
It's not exactly very scary, but Sunless Sea is weird and bizarre, creates a very interesting supernatural freaky world to get lost and die in.
>>17682494
The Metro 2033 series is pretty cool
The first couple of "Siren" games were pretty hardcore. But good luck actually finding a way to play them in the present. I mean unless you still have a ps2 then maybe but I think the hard part is finding the actual game discs.
witcher 3 , single best game ever and its x related , also new hugeee dlc is coming 31.5.2016.
Battlefield 3 & 4
Skyrim
Super Mario 64
WCW/NWO Revenge (for Nintendo 64)
Banjo Kazooie & Banjo Tooie
World of Warcraft
Overwatch
Dark Souls 2 & 3
Battlefront
Firewatch (walking simulators ftw!)
Goat Simulator
Dota 2
Warcraft III
Starcraft Brood War
Just my humble opinion
Metal Gear Solid 2 for the crazy conspiracy being in a simulation bit
Better pick a game that isnt known at all
>>17682494
It's been said before but Eternal Darkness is a great choice, It's a perfect combo of Lovecraft and Poe. Also Majora's Mask is probably the most /x/game in the Zelda series.
>>17682539
Seconding sunless sea it's a fantastic game
>>17682494
>Playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl
>My very first time in lab x-18, just got past the section where you're sneaking around in the dark and quiet only to hear a roar in the distance and get ambushed by Snorks
>Get to the second level
>Nope right the fuck out when objects start floating to the ceiling
I mean, it gets far less scary after you played the game 20 times and learn to just charge the poltergeists while hipfiring in their general direction, but god damn, the first playthrough of that game is better than like 99% of most dedicated horror games.
The atmosphere is fucking amazing.
>>17684663
The fucking shadow dungeon in LoZ:Ocarina Of Time is pretty spooky, and some stuff about it is just....off
>>17682494
System Shock 2. Spookiest game there is.
>>17682494
this was pretty creepy, at least the atmosphere and story wise
also
>>17685066
pic related
Not a great game, with the concept was cool
>>17684955
Oh I remember my first time with the controller or whatever it was, just chucked a grenade and ran the fuck out in panic
>>17685066
>>17685067
Id like another detective murder mystery game, but make it really dark. Maybe add paranormal aspects to it as a big twist
>>17685080
This game sucks fucking button masher
>>17685070
Honestly the best item in the entire game is a moonlight artifact, running the fuck away is the best strategy 99% of the time.
THE p 3 s t 3 r min4t0r
>>17684132
I dont think you understand the question. Just how in any way is goat simulator an X related game?
>>17685045
My nigga.
Never have I been so creeped out by any game before/after
>>17682494
Why is he using a giant wheel as a shield? Is it a comment on the ups and downs of life?
>>17682494
This is one of the most /x/-core games out there.
Silent Hill 1-3
>>17686705
>shield

>>17686708
nice.
very old school: Hexen, Half Life
old school: resident evil 4
aaand that's when i stopped playing video games
Kentucky Route Zero. Not horror but magical realism, so it's not scary, it's actually beautiful and very comfy, but it has ghosts and skeletons and travel between strange dimensions nesting inside other strange dimensions in it. It takes influence from theater and modern art rather than other video games, and it's wonderful. Also, the soundtrack is gorgeous.

Emulation, comrade. Emulation
If you play through them and begin understand what they're really all about, the Souls series. Interestingly enough, if you listen to the lore in Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, it has some pretty interesting sub-c context.
>>17686675
goats are satanic
the stalker games are pretty good, at least at first. After a while they turn into generic first person shooters.
>>17685139
>running away
The knife is the strongest weapon in the game. Full speed ahead!
>>17684955
This.
I was afraid of almost everything. Every sound, every movement in the corner of my eye.
>Hear a dog howl in the distance - run the fuck back to camp.
>See some dark figure moving in the bushes - run the fuck back to camp.
>Nothing happens - run the fuck back to camp
Okay. Steins;Gate.
It is a visual novel. Don't ignore it because you hate weeb shit. It is /x/ as fuck. Paranoid protag, John Titor, multiple worldlines. Play this shit. I have it on the PS VITA but I think it's still free online.
>>17682509
Awesome game for Lovecraft fans. Very /x/.
>>17682494
The Evil Within. Best video game and the most /x/ tier game ever.
Also, Harvester
Click and point adventure game that was extremely controversial when it was released.
Already posted but goddamn I love this game.
>>17682494
Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly
Check it out. Its an old PS2 game
Alan Wake also has a thrilling story.
>>17690398
>The best
Plz no more b8
Serious hiw has no one mentioned this game.
>dat dystopic creepy WWII atmosphere
>dat dere vampire wifu
>literally fucking invented nazi occult zombies
Shit was the best when I was a youngester
>>17690374
Chaos;Head Visual Novel is also very good.
Sanitarian fucked me up point and click but mega fucked up. I played it sick and was near insane at the end
>>17690715
You played that game when you were sick and still managed to navigate it? Congrats, man.
>>17690700
Are you fucking blind or fucked in the head?
Dishonoured obviously.
>>17684132
How is battlefield /X/ related in any way?
The Secret World is pretty /x/ in my opinion. Good game, lots of fun. The lore is amazing and actually makes me want to collect it.
Plus it has its Spoopy moments, which props doing horror in a system (MMO) that almost is directly opposed to the idea.
>>17690681
Bet you didn't even play it.
>>17686675
You can become a demon goat and wreck shit like no other goat has wrecked shit before.
the F.E.A.R. trilogy
First one is awesome as fuck.
Second one is best in my opinion (ramps up both creepyness and action while still keeping them balanced)
Third one kinda sucks, leaning more towards action with the "creepy" just being bloody/gory, but after you play the first two, might as well do 3 to conclude the story.
Psychic powers, creepy ass ghost girl, military clones and experiments gone wrong, government conspiracies and coverups, everything the average /x/phile could need.
>>17682494
the entire Witcher trilogy.
you literally can't even go more /x/ faggots.
>inb4 m-muh penumbra
>>17686705
that's not a shield m8
>>17690907
yeah. F.E.A.R was breddy good
been afraid of stairs ever since.
The Secret World always strikes me as the single most /x/ game ever created, but very rarely do I see people mention it
>>17684132
With battlefield I assume he's talking about the international conspiracy in 3, and the Chinese political conspiracy in 4, but I'm not certain.
>>17684132
Not this anon but for the sake of anyone interested I will try to clear up this mess of a list. Note I only going to post games that I actually play though. If someone wants they can just do whatever I missed.
>Skyrim
Have cults somewhat, able to turn into a werewolf and if you have the DLC for it a vampire. There is a DLC with image related. Overall though I can't recommend if you want a purely /x/ related game. The game itself is ok though as expected from AAA titles. Just full of bugs as expected from Bethesda as well though. Often cheap on Steam for like $5 without DLCs and a few dollars more with them if you catch it during a good sale.
>Super Mario 64
lel Ben drowned. Beside low polygon graphics I honestly don't see why this was posted. Hell may as well add Super Mario world, they have haunted houses with ghosts. Ooooo Spooky.
>Dark Souls 2 & 3
Bloodborne is more /x/ than anything but yea, at least this somewhat make sense, compare to the rest of this shitty list anyway. Magic and a lore that you pretty much have to hunt for yourself. Not sure why this anon think Dark Souls 1 wasn't worth playing though. Same shit. The series as a game is ok if you get it on sale but for a purely /x/ thing I can't recommend. Just get Bloodborne if you have the console for it.
>Goat Simulator
You sacrifice a few people to play as an evil goat. Not as fun as it sounds though. Watch a youtube video of it and you pretty much will get all of the possible /x/ from it in about 2 minutes. There are also aliens I guess though you don't really see them. Can't recommend playing whatsoever.
>>17689106
you do sacrifice people in goat simulator
>>17691096
would def fuck
No Mans Sky has the potential to have a few /x/ worthy planets sequestered out in the middle of nowhere.
The alien lifeforms are supposed to become more and more "unearthly" as you travel to the center of the universe.
>>17691096
We set up an /x/ cabal about 2 years ago but nobody really played. The main problem is that the game basically revolves around the MMO mechanics that really detract from the atmosphere of the game.
There's an ARG spinoff called The Black Watchmen that looks promising. Has anyone played that?
http://store.steampowered.com/app/349220/
>>17684955
I never completed SoC because of the second lab(?).
I killed big face dude in that basement and it was tense as fuck, but the game was a pretty spoopy experience before I bailed.
I completed Clear Sky though, which is my favorite of the three despite what a lot of people claim.
>>17691408
>The Black Watchmen
Was going to shell out a bit of cash for it when it first came out. Be right at the center of whatever the devs could cook up. Prowl around my town doing whatever deeds. Planned on becoming one of the most integral members etc.
But the whole thing fell through when I realized the game had no devoted fanbase like a week in. A shame.
> crime rates and murders are through the roof in the city, and nobody knows why
> you're a cop
> you're framed for murder
> your investigation to find the real killer leads you to uncover the truth behind the madness
Warning: Condemned: CO is solid 4/5; great combat system too. Condemned 2, however, is like a 2/5 at best; in no small part because it ended on a cliffhanger and will never get a sequel.
>>17691488
This. Is. The. Scariest. Game. Ever.
Seriously, no game before or since managed to nail (in a bit of wood) what makes a game scary better than this.
