Can there be an objective purpose to the tarrot? Aside from divination? I am interested in the language of the symbols and the story therein but have no desire to be a future preaching charlatan.
Is there a book that can aid me in reafing these cards without reverting to how I will be able to tell whether or not a girl likes me or what my boss is thinking?
The cards simply reveal to you what you were thinking already. They are a way to explore your own thoughts. Let the symbols guide you. I don't believe anyone can divine for anyone else unless you know the person extremely intimately.

A rather unverifiable technique for Tarot is that it shows what you are thinking on the subconscious level. Like what >>17657012 says, a Rorschach test.
However, I find Tarot to be a valuable tool in considering other possibilities in a given situation. When you are stressed, the brain gets locked in black-white thinking, that perhaps only two options exist to a problem. Tarot may throw out some seemingly unrelated cards to help break you out of the two-option mental lock and help you find a third option.

The Tarot is a great system for understanding life.
I find that after working tarot, Those symbols will appear to me in life in the moment, helping me understand life in the field as it is happening.
For instance, sometime's i'll meet a new person and in the back of my mind i'll see the page of swords, which tells me about this person's personality and how i relate to them.
The symbols learned in tarot become the language spoken by my subconcious to conscious mind
