How does one ascend?
I'm tired of living for others and limiting the expression of self through craving external things.
What steps are you taking or have you taken in your path towards ascension and how does a beginner like me with no experience with the spiritual and metaphysical go about attaining a higher state?

It is the closest to being a god or harvester of souls that you can become in this form.
I take great satisfaction in fooling a fish into taking a piece of metal as food.
Some get away but its the actual moment they hit the lure that I live for.
I caught pic related today. I didn't wait to feel it strike. I just knew it was going to hit and I set the hook before I felt anything and sure enough, it was there.
This one gave a valient fight but ended up on my stringer anyway.

You really don't need to ascend to realize that you don't need to do that, you're just still too immature to realize it.
It's not a bad thing, it's just what maturity is all about. It's about realizing who you are in relation to the world, accept yourself and come to term with your issues, not let social pressure dictate your thoughts, desires and ideas and be assertive in your own person.
As a matter of fact, until you, at least, reach this level of maturity, you will not be able to ascend. Ascending is not some kind of magical process that you can go through regardless of your mental, physical and spiritual state. it takes a lot of sacrifice, dedication and work that is meant to cultivate yourself in order to be ready for it. Once you reach the level of maturity you need to realize that your life doesn't revolve around the ego, you may not even feel the need to ascend.
Because spiritual ascension trully is a serious endeavor that takes a litteral lifetime of work and you have NO idea what it implies.. The way you speak, you seem to expect to be able to do it in a few years max. Break your cycle of delusions first.

That's actually true. As much as I respect the dedication of vegans into trying to harm as little life as possible in this world. Survival of all living things is a competition and every life form survives by feeding of other life forms.
Even vegans. Even if plants are not, technically, conscious, they are alive and in order to eat them, we must kill, mutilate and hurt them. Well its an aspect of you but it is a prison. Bliss is you, bliss is the fundamental reality. Ego is a bunch of thought constructs creating a mental world. But what makes that world? Energy. Energy and consciousness are one and if you experience enough energy/consciousness you experience bliss. We are to wrapped up in this mental world and not aware enough of the energetic. We are focusing on part and not whole. Problem is we are conditioned to perceive a certain way and it takes a lot of meditation to become aware of energy. I do Martial Arts, To me it's a way of life. I became aware of energy and a whole in two ways. The first one was when I was training purely in full contact back when all I cared about was competition and winning fights. I am blessed to have had wonderful teachers who still guided me right despite my arrogant and aggressive nature and by training only my body and techniques while adding fighting experience to the lot. I became aware of energy flowing through your body when you practice specific motions and put them in practice. I also got a better understanding of energy and flow by practicing Jiu-Jutsu and Judo. After a while of practice, motions become automatic and second nature. Once you attain this level, you are more perceptive of the effects of your motions in relation to energy itself. I don't know if I make sense, but in Martial Arts Zen, we call this, the effortless effort. Basically, energy is and flows all around us, resisting energy causes conflict, following its course creates harmony. The science behind many MArtial Arts is based around many principles such as this one. Let your opponent defeat himself.
The second way is, of course, with meditation. When I started meditation, I attuned my mind to this principle. Before, I could understand it in a physical form, now, by relaxing my mind and centering it in the living moment, I become aware of energy and harmony on a conscious level. Still, I do not reject my ego. Maybe that's because I don't really seek enlightement, but more of a zen state. To me, Zen is still a sensation centered in the physical living world. one foot one both sides while enlightement is to completely cross to the other side.

I use study of MMA like BJJ and the desire to be a badass MMA fighter as part of my path. It helps with strengthening the will which a HUGE part of the path. Currently cutting to try to get in fighting shape. Use to be 210 lbs benching 300 lbs, with 42 1/2" gut, now 157 lbs with 34 1/4" gut; guess Im gonna cut down to feather weight 145 lbs.
