Anyone else find these places really comfy-looking?

Pic related is Ordos, China.
>>
Looks beautiful. and yeah abandoned places are more beautiful cause they lack people, and they look so beautiful when it gets foggy.

One time I met a British girl who had been teaching English in China, she said she and her friends played laser tag in one of those ghost cities which sounds cool as fuck.

In China those places are called "new areas." When the govt foresees a big flux in population, they pre-build these whole big cities for people to move into. Sometimes though for whatever reason the cities end up unpopulated or severely underpopulated. The latter seems especially interesting -- imagine a small, close-knit community of a few hundred living in a massive cityscape intended for millions.
>>
>>17648981
China started making "mock cities" to emulate other countries major cities including a Paris with a mini eiffel tower and everything.

A lot of the projects were underfunded and nobody in China could afford to move into these cities resulting in a housing bubble.

They have tons of these empty cities

To name a few
>Chernobyl: you should all know this one
>Varosha, Famagusta: the entire southern half of a city taken over in an invasion, it has been completely uninhabited since the 70s and is fenced off and guarded with deadly force
>Discover Island, Florida: a beach resort island that was part of Disneyland for just over a decade but then closed and was left to rot. Also rumored to have closed after a infectious brain eating amoeba was discovered in the waters.
>Various small towns or hidden cities in Russia known as "closed cities" that do not appear on maps and can not be entered.

These are the Abandoned "Olympic Cities" built for Olympic Games, right?

I once saw a site that showed a whole bunch of what the "Cities" they build for Olympics look like and they all looked spoopy.

Something like this, but they had more info

when i lived in china we visited a neighborhood like this. odd architecture meant to look like european cities. almost entirely empty, but not quite. we ate at a restaurant there and it was pretty good. no idea how they stay in business (got to be something shady even if it's just bribes or whatever.)

the story i heard about most of these places is that recent capitalist zones are creating huge wealth disparity, but in a country where the government is still super socialist. so you have government projects where they build massive housing complexes intended for poor farmers or whatever to be "modernized", but then a handful of wealthy speculators buy up all the apartments from the farmers at prices the farmers can't ignore, and then they sit waiting for the empty property to become valuable so they can sell it at a profit.

it would work great if a few people did it, but when fucking everybody does it, you end up with thousands of apartments being owned by a handful of people, nobody ever moves in, and the place falls apart because no one lives there, ensuring that no one will ever move in. but they keep doing it because China.

and somewhere somebody looks good on paper for all the shit they're building for poor people and somebody else looks good on paper for all the real estate they own and whoever it is they're looking good for hasn't figured out the scam yet.

definitely going to cause a major economic kerfluffle when the shit hits the fan, as it inevitably must.

/v/fag here, and long-time STALKER-player. Don't download Complete, it makes the game way too easy and changes a bunch of things that ultimately harms the atmosphere.

There are lots of mods out there that make the game prettier or add new shit, but don't let Complete be the one for you.

I was travelling through China a few years back. We were on a coach going from Xi'an to ChongQuing and stopped off in the "Ancient town of 'something' Est 2010" the town had been built exactly like an ancient Chinese village. There was about 20 people in the whole town. They had plans to expand the town at least 4 times the size but hadn't completed it yet. There was high rise buildings for miles around yet no one was in them. In the town square they were giving away a new car despite being able to walk from one side of the town to the other in 5minutes. There was also a cock fighting place, so weird.

It's just predictive urbanization I lived in China as well, including in Ordos for a while, the district on OP's picture, the ghost town in question, is massive and has a slow but steady influx of people coming from the countryside.

Some of the ghost towns that were build 10 or so years ago only now started to fill up.

I was in China last month and I've been to places like in OP's picture. I was on a highway that passed through the center of these "cities". Most are simply meant to be expansion of a highly concentrated city or town nearby. Some just happened to be build much farther than the original and they overestimate expansion rate and/or direction. However, it won't become a major economic issues based on my knowledge. They are the product of government's strategy to use their material and labor, to provide and keep them in demand.
