I suppose the issue I've always had is that while the methods and ritual of something like pagan worship or witchcraft have always appealed they seem to almost always involve offloading onto some other entity. Be that a god, a spirit, or something else and this always conflicts with my desire for self-sufficiency. Your main issue seems to be that you're losing steam because your efforts aren't paying off the way you'd expect them to. I get the notion of a sort of Diabolus Ex Machina that came out of nowhere and sort of wrecked your plans. Due to this, you're beginning to feel demoralized and risk-averse.
It seems that it will take some time for things to turn around, but you'll need to keep a positive attitude and hope in order to weather the storm.
